Bitten by Books
I went with Iron Fey, Vampire Academy, & other. I don’t usually like YA stuff much, but both Iron Fey & VA are excellently crafted series. One of my favorite YA books is called Euphoria by Jourdan Alexandra- supposed to be a series but I have not seen the second one out as of yet. It is beyond awesome.
Hex Hall is up there for me as well.
I really love the House of Night, though the content sometimes leaves me wondering if it is really YA or more adult sometimes. LOL
I also love the Iron Fey series though I am a few books into it. I don’t think I have read book 3. There are so MANY awesome YA and even kids series, like the Circles of Heck series by Dale Basye that I enjoy reading.
I have to say that I am probably more into kid series than YA-but I also tend to go the more traditional fantasy route with those as well. Harry Potter obviously but I love, love , love both or Rick Riordan’s Kane Chronicles & the Percy Jackson stuff. I just feel like a lot of the YA paranormal books really rely on love triangles…and that is usually to the detriment of character &/or plot development. Also, teenagers for the most part are. The. Worst. so even if they are well developed or characterized they annoy me
but I do know there are good ones out there.
I really enjoy the House of Night series. The writing has gotten better and the series increases, it was pretty immature in the beginning. I liked the Harry Potters and the Twilights, but we’ve been so inundated with them I’ve lost interest.
Lisa, I really like HON too. I am SERIOUSLY behind on that series. Of course I love Harry Potter. LOVE love those books. Now, admittedly I have NOT read the Twilight series. *hangshead* If you like HP you may like the Heck books by Dale Basye. They are SO freaking funny.
I loved Cast’s House of Night and loved the Vampire Academy. I also loved Michael Grant’s Gone series & Patterson’s Max Ride series.
Morganville, Wicked Lovely & Vampire Academy. I love them all, plus many of the others too.
My top favorite is the Harry Potter series which I absolutely love. I also enjoyed the Twilight books, Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, Night World by L.J. Smith, The Lynburn Legacy books by Sarah Rees Brennan.
I’ve read House of Night up to book 8 so far and the series is not bad, but I didn’t fell in love with them. Also, I’m currently reading Vampire Academy series (I’m on book 3 now) and I must admit I’m not falling in love with this series like some other readers seem to have. I like VA better than House of night and I’ll definitely read all the books and the spin-off series, but I won’t be re-reading them.
Morganville is the one series I hated to see end. I also like the Night Creature series by Lori Handeland her first book of this series “Blue Moon” is the book that got me hook reading paranormal books. House of Night series is another series I really enjoy reading.
I enjoy a lot of the series listed - but I did really love Hex Hall and Paranormalcy. My third option was other as I love the Beautiful Creatures series of books.
Definitely Vampire Academy as that was the series that brought me back to YA! Through this series I learned that not only had the YA genre changed dramatically since I was a teen-and really it hadn’t been all that long since I “left” YA-but also because there was now a PARANORMAL YA being born! Something that didn’t exist when I was a teen! Love that series!
Then I chose Iron Fey Chronicles because Julie’s fey series was just awesome! Fey in their natural form, which can be pretty sinister! Plus I <3 Puck! And Ash! And Grimalkin is just freaking awesome too!
Then apparently I'm the only vote so far for Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series! It was a tossup between that one and L.J.'s Night World series. But being that I am wayyyy behind in that one-I've only read one book, book 9 and that was BEFORE all the compilation novels came out-I decided to go with a series I've read! I love Kelley's Otherworld series so reading a YA series in the same world as that but with paranormal teens was a read right up my alley!
My favorites are Vampire Academy, Night World, and House of Night. The characters and world building are fascinating in each of these YA paranormals.
My top 3 are all other
Sarah J Maas Throne of Glass
Kristin Cashore Graceling Realm
Laini Taylor Daughter of Smoke and Bone
as an extra……
I really really like……Resurrection Of Magic trilogy, but I am have impatience issue wait for book 3
I actually haven’t read any that involve paranormal stuff…I need to fix that!
I would have to pick the “Strange Angels” series by Lili St. Crow. Only bad thing about the trilogy- it was only a trilogy.
Too bad there was not an option “I do not read Young Adult/Do not like Young Adult books” because that would be me. Though reviewing a few have slipped into my queues. Though I do like Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Chronicle of Nick series… and I did like Colleen Gleason’s The Clockwork Scarab
The Iron Fae, The Frost series by Jennifer estep, and Chronicles of Nick by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
I don’t read YA…so I’d rather have a poll on great adult fantasy and all its sub-genres individually…but my kids’ love The Caster Chronicles (Beautiful Creatures is one of them), Chronicles of Narnia, and my youngest likes Harry Potter.
