POLL DISCUSSION: Pick Your Favorite Book to Screen Adaptation! Round 2

Welcome to the poll of the week!! Polling runs through Sunday, September 14th. How to participate: FIRST VOTE on the bottom RIGHT HAND SIDE of the site. Next stop here to tell us which three Book to Screen Adaptation (this can be a book to a movie OR TV show) that you picked for Round ONE. and why you chose your answers. The only VOTES that count are the ones on the actual poll not the comments! This is a round two of three rounds. There will be 25 series for round one, 25 round for round two and 26 for round three. We will have a final round in week four to determine who is the winner from the top FIVE of rounds one through three.

We took the READER nominations from last week, verified them, then put them into a spreadsheet, sorted alphabetically by name and then started at the top of the list for this round.

PLEASE NOTE: We can’t add every Book to Screen Adaptation out there or this would be the only poll we would have on the site ever again. :) There are HUNDREDS of fantastic adaptations out there now. Thank you for understanding and remember this is for FUN, it isn’t for a prize or prestige.

  1. This was a much tougher bracket but I went with Harry Potter, Howl’s Moving Castle, & the BBC’s update of Sherlock. I could have easily picked a few from this list though.

  2. I have heard my husband go on and on how great the movie reflects and follows the book with Lord of the Rings and Odd Thomas. Why I chose them.. And I chose Howl’s Moving Castle. I loved the anime first, and then I got to read the book…

I should have mentioned The Last Unicorn. I read the book and loved the animation.

  3. Of this list, it was a little frustrating since there were more than 3 books with good screen adaptations. I went with the Harry Potter books (based on my son’s view since he read all the books) Lord of the Rings (one had to have read the books to know) and of course Outlander, for the presentation of Scotland in the 1700′s. I would like to add another which is based on 3 books but is a TV show by the same name as first book-The Strain. More of a horror story but the adaption is excellent considering it is a show for the small screen.

  4. I picked HIGH FIDELITY-I thought the switch from a soul-loving Londoner hero to an indie-rocking Chicagoan worked perfectly, plus Jack Black is hysterical and I dare say I related a little too well to some of the record-store moments…

  5. I went with Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Odd Thomas. I have been addicted to LOTR forever, loved the movies even though much had to be left out of them…otherwise they would have been about ten hours each.

  6. I voted for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Haven. I don’t know if I was the only one to nominate Haven but I’m super happy it made the list! I’ve heard Outlander is really good but us poor people have to wait until it comes out on netflix to watch it.

  7. I voted for my two top favorites, Harry Potter and The Lord of the rings, and also for Roswell because I liked the series much more than the books.

  8. Tough bracket. Chose Outlander, Schindler’s List, and LotR

  9. I chose Outlander. It’s brilliant! I am as obsessed with the show as I am with the books, and that never happens!

  10. Right now, I’d have to say OUTLANDER!!!!!

  11. By far, Outlander!

  12. Outlander by a landslide, read the books from the first printing

  13. I love the Harry Potter books to death. I’ve read them and listened to them all dozens of times which is why I would never vote for them as far as being a good book to screen translation. Outlander is doing a phenomenal job of bringing Diana’s words to life. It’s absolutely stunning.

  14. Voted for OUTLANDER of course!!!!

  15. Outlander is outstanding!

  16. Outlander is by far the best adaptation I have seen to date for several reasons. It has tried valiantly to stay true to the books and the characters which is rare! The scenery and ambiance are a love letter to Scotland and the production is lush and the acting tremendous!

  17. I’ve read all the Outlander Series - the TV programme is a brilliant adaptation!

  18. Outlander! Had hoped but had never imaged that it would be so superbly done!

  19. Outlander, superb adaptation of superb books by Diana Gabaldon.

  20. Right now it’s OUTLANDER. They are doing an amazing job, from the production stand point to the actors. I knew it would be good when I heard Ron Moore was behind it, but worried about STARZ and didn’t want this to be all “nudity insert here”, but boy they surprised me big time.
I also liked THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS with DDL ….

  21. OUTLANDER!

  22. Grimm, Harry Potter and Roswell. I would have liked to pick Outlander but I haven’t seen it. Basic cable :(.

  23. Outlander..!

  24. I have watched many of the movies and Television series that have been made based on books!! I find that Outlander is represented and depicted most accurately as the Author Diana Gabaldon intended!! Producer Ronald D Moore has don a fabulous job in bringing this to the screen, his wife is a genius with costumes. The Actors give you the feeling that you are right there with them and you feel like you are part of the episode!! and I say this for all of the Outlaners that we are very happy with the Outlander series and we look forward to more episodes and seasons!!

  25. Difficult choices in this round! I voted for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Outlander.

  26. Outlander !!!!!

  27. Outlander books to tv adaptation stunning on every level the cast, crew, location, costumes and
    music

  28. Harry Potter is bound to be a winner in this
plus I added Interview with a Vampire and Somewhere in Time-gotta love anything with Jane Seymore

  29. I chose Outlander, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. They all started as well-written stories with interesting characters,, and were adapted to the screen in a manner that showed a love and respect for the world the writers created. On film, these worlds were brought vividly and faithfully to life, with wonderful actors and beautifully realistic sets.

  30. I voted for Harry Potter, LoTR, and Queen of the Damned. I loved them all! I’m SO glad we’re allowed three votes! :)

  31. I chose Stand By Me because when those boys found a dead person they didn’t know what to think or how to re-act to it. Their characters were so believable. And, Haven, I love the way Audra keeps coming back as someone else, and this, in turn. keeps making more trouble for Haven. Her character helps move the series along. Odd Thomas is a unique character. The author used a very skillful idea to form his character.

  32. Grimm
    Interview with a Vampire
    Lord of the Rings
It’s hard to pick only three from this list.

  33. For the choices there I went with Interview with a vampire, but my favorite is Twilight, yes I am a twilight mega fan!! But there are some great choices there.

  34. I chose Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Roswell!

  35. My ancestors were Highlanders. One line of the family came after Culloden battle. I need to know more about Scotland. I loved the Outlander books because there’s so much wonderful history in them. The characters are unique. AND, the casting in the TV series is perfect. The scenery is fantastic. I am enthralled just knowing about how it must have been during the 1743 time period and later. PLEASE keep the series coming on television. I have all 8 books and also enjoy them for the American history as well. If you like the history of the time period, the TV series brings the history alive. I wish I could see more of history like this on television. Thank You!

  36. I picked
    1. Harry Potter
    2. Schindler’s List
    3. Stand by me

  37. Mary Poppins, Somewhere In Time, & Stand By Me… It was hard but these jumped out 1st!

  38. Outlander! I love the books and have read them at least three times.
Haven - what a terrific series!!!
Lord of the Rings - totally terrific.

  39. I voted for Outlander, Harry Potter and Schlinder’s List.

  40. I’m a diehard, long-time fan of Outlander and have read it and all the others many times, however I can’t believe To Kill a Mockingbird and Shawshank redemption were not offered as choices here. Did I miss them?

  41. Howls moving castle

  42. Harry Potter and Lord of the rings. The others I’ve either read the book or watched the show not both lol

  43. Harry Potter, Howl’s Moving Castle and Sherlock.

And sadly, Princess Bride didn’t make the list. :(

  44. I REALLY disliked the screen of of Wizard of Earthsea. But I LOVE the books. Yay for ninth grade English teacher! :)

  45. There are actually a few, like Haven, that I didn’t realize were books first. And normally people say that to me!

  46. Oh, and STILL haven’t made it all the way through the movie version of Schindler’s List, but I liked the book.

  47. Mary Poppins (2%, 16 Votes) & Northern Lights (0%, 2 Votes) seams not so popular

  48. so easy pocks for me, Grimm, LOTR and Penny Dreadful, WOOT
