About The Name of the Wind:
“The riveting first-person narrative of a young man who grows to be the most notorious magician his world has ever seen. From his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime- ridden city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that transports readers into the body and mind of a wizard. It is a high-action novel written with a poet’s hand, a powerful coming-of-age story of a magically gifted young man, told through his eyes: to read this book is to be the hero.”

I’m gonna have to put this on my watch list. Sounds promising, and I hear nothing but glowing words for the man himself.
Ugh. I feel so guilty. My husband loves this series, and so far, I just haven’t been able to get into it. We do have some differences in the books we prefer — we both prefer fantasy to any other genre, but he rarely reads anything besides fantasy, sci-fi, and humor, whereas I do.
But there’s some things I just didn’t like. Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks are the big ones who it’s almost sac-religious not to like, and who I just couldn’t get into. Then, one night, I was able to get into this series slightly, but my husband was reading it to me when I was really sick and going through a difficult time in , my life. I didn’t get far, because I fell asleep almost right away, and so now I have negative mental associations with the series too — through no fault of the author. But I’ll have to give it another try one of these days.
OMG, my wishlist just keeps growing!
Nice to be introduced to a new author. I thought it interesting how Jay mentioned that it wasn’t until the third chapter that things start to pick up in the novel. Some books takes a bit of time but are so worthwhile once the reader is hooked. Maybe with epic fantasy and the more complex world building.
The sheer scope seems a little daunting, but Jay does make it appealing!
It reminds me of The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit books.
Oh! I have been looking for a new high fantasy series. I must check it out.
This is a completely new series for me. I will definitely add it to my wishlist.
I’m glad you’ve gone back to “using your voice” because you do such a great job! Completely new series to me~I’ll have to add to my list!
Loved meeting you! Thanks for being so unique in an introduction.
