I’d like to introduce Mayhem, pack alpha and front man for the rock band Riot. He’s sexy as hell and ready to claim his mate…if he can find her.
What is it with bad boys that we just can’t get enough of? Tough on the outside with a hidden soft center that we love to melt…on our tongues…mmmm.
They can come in many different ways (that was totally intentional ;-)) and offer up qualities that in real life might actually be quite annoying. Possessiveness for example, is a standard trait among the bad boys, especially those alpha types. They love to lay their claim whether it be in the form of a bite or some other kind of marking. They flash fang and growl, making sure all the guys and girls around know who you belong to. I love that kinda thing in my fiction; it’s some sexy stuff.
And what about the attitude problem? Stubborn as all hell, probably not really the sharing sort when it comes to admitting feelings and emotions. That’s another one of those traits that drives us deliciously crazy, especially when you’re dealing with supernatural types. It’s the heroine’s job to dig in and get to the bottom of his heart. And she usually does, right?
Mayhem is the epitome of bad boy, a werewolf and a rock star who’s had his fair share of groupies and is looking for more. His wolf demands a mate and with the rest of the guys already finding theirs, he’s even more ready to settle down. But what kind of woman would be the best partner for someone like Mayhem? Sweet and somewhat innocent, Hannah isn’t about to take all the rock star crap to heart.
She’s not star struck when she first meets Mayhem but she also can’t tear her gaze away. She knows he’s bad news for her and so not her type. But who doesn’t love the chance to play with a forbidden sex god?
Excerpt from Mayhem:
“Mayhem! Mayhem! Mayhem!”
The chant swelled momentarily as the door to his hidden sanctuary opened and closed, the muffled sound thumping at the walls, threatening his peace.
“I’m not going out there,” Mayhem growled, the deep rumble enough to warn most people to leave him the fuck alone.
“It’s your launch party, May. You’ve got to go—the record execs have thrown a lot of money into this album.” Unfortunately, the growling strategy usually didn’t work on his manager, Dave Strader. The man had balls of steel. “Seriously, Mayhem, if you fuck this up and they pull the funding, you’re done! We’re done!”
Slumping back in his chair, Mayhem blew out a long breath. “It’s just a bunch of fangirls drinking free booze and wanting autographs,” he objected. And why he’d let the record execs badger him into having the party at his private residence was beyond his understanding. His skin crawled at the invasion of his turf. “Listen to them out there!”
“Wanting your cock, more like it.” Raven, his bassist, snickered from the doorway.
Mayhem rubbed his hand over his jaw and yawned. Yeah, fucking groupies. All they seemed to want was a quick bang and the bragging rights to go with it. He’d grown out of that shit recently, no longer taking pleasure in the multiple opportunities for one-night stands.
The trouble with being a famous rock star was the rumors—his insatiable appetite in bed over the years seemed to have cultivated quite the reputation among the ladies. It meant endless numbers of loose women, but nothing that brought his life any substance. Sounded crazy, but it was true.
What he really wanted, what his wolf wanted, was a mate for life. Yeah, not going to happen. In his line of work, all he got were fake tits and collagen lips. “I’m not interested. I’m done with fucking groupies,” Mayhem grumbled.
“You just have to make an appearance. Shake a few hands. Have a drink,” Dave said.
His manager’s voice was beginning to grate, and Mayhem was sorely tempted to lash into him. But he couldn’t blame the man for doing his job. And Dave was right—Mayhem’s career was beginning to tank, and the time had probably come to kiss some executive ass… that or start handing out resumes. There had been too many disruptions over the past year— cancelled concerts, a six month forced hiatus—all of which were linked to the politics of being a werewolf and not something he could explain to the industry folks.
“This bullshit about waiting for your mate is fucking everything up, man!” Dave continued. “Seriously, you’ve got to tap into the old Mayhem, the one who could fuck a woman with just a look.”
“It’s my wolf,” Mayhem said. “It won’t accept anything less.”
Although Dave managed Mayhem’s band—which was really a small pack—and knew about their “wolf status” so to speak, he couldn’t truly understand the intrinsic nature of it all. It wasn’t his fault. He was simply incapable of grasping the significance of finding one’s mate.
It didn’t help matters that the rest of his pack had found their mates. Raven, Jaylon, Dyami had stumbled into blissful unions. All but Mayhem. And what were the odds of lightning striking a fourth time?
Nil as far as he was concerned.
“Well, you’re not going to meet any woman, let alone your mate, locked inside this room. Raven, help me out here, would ya? What are the ladies like out there? Any fine ones?” Dave said as he turned to pour himself something from the bar.
“Fine ones? Fuck yeah!” Raven smirked as he whipped out his cell phone and made his way over to Mayhem. “It just so happens that I snapped some pics of the ladies out there tonight. Thought we might be able to entice you out of hiding if you saw what was on display.”
Mayhem waved his hand in dismissal. “Not interested.”
“There are tons of hot babes, May, but I’ve got one just for you.” Raven swiped his finger across the screen a few times. “Ah, here she is…” Before Mayhem could say anything, Raven flashed a smile and thrust the phone into Mayhem’s face. “The tall redhead there, standing with the blonde.”
Mayhem grumbled another rough round of cursing before dropping his gaze to the phone, certain all he was going to see was another fangirl with a big rack and a short skirt. But the second he looked at the screen, he was done for.
Fuck me!”

Thanks so much for having me here, Rachel!
Who are some of your favourite authors?
Hi Minna! Great question! Top of my list is Kelley Armstrong…I love all of her adult books. I’m fond of paranormal romance as well. Kresley Cole and Karen Marie Moning are two of my favorites!
If you could only give ONE piece of advice to newbie authors and writers, what advice do you think is the most important one to give? One Pro? One Con?
Favorite mythological creature?
Hi Raonaid!
My advice to a newbie would be to keep at it. Pay your dues, put the time in, take the hits and never give up.
Pros and cons of what? Writing?
My favorite mythological creature would be the Amazons…do they fall under creature? I love writing strong female characters and they are the epitome of strength!
Yes, pros and cons of writing?
-Laughs- Not sure… and ironic since Amazons are part of the heroine I am reading in a review book. You like strong women type, then you’d like dark elven women. Those women can be vicious and downright sadistic. The males are subservient to them. I guess that is why I like them so much.
Mine has to be drows (dark elves) and dragons
Pros of writing: creating stuff right out of my head and breaking the rules
Cons of writing: I type fast, but I don’t type fast enough for all my thoughts all the time.
I’m not a huge fantasy reader but if it’s got strong female characters it would definitely draw my interest.
What made you want to be an author?
Hi Jennifer! I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was a kid…I wrote my first novel at the age of six…it’s called The Fuzzy Wuzzles and I even drew pictures
I can’t tell you where that passion came from but I’ve been writing my whole life.
What about you, are you all for the possessive, jealous sort?
— That all depends on “how” possessive and “how” jealous.
Feeling the stinging bite of jealousy can be good for a relationship, along with feeling possession towards the one you love. It shows that your emotions are involved. However, when it takes the dangerous, abusive road, is where I draw a line. When the possessiveness and jealousy turns dark and painful really turns me off.
Do you love the strong silent type?
—- Oh yes! - Laughs – An ex-friend / role player companion had one of those types for a character. Of course, my character was his opposite but he was so much fun. It makes you wonder… and it always brings the saying “Still waters runs deep”
What kind of qualities do you like in your bad boys?
— Snark! I love when my bad boys get snarky or behave like a wise ass. They tend to be so much fun. And I never thought about it, but bad boys being slightly unhinged is really fun and unexpected. Stephanie Tyler had one in her one series and I loved him (His name was Jem) to death. You just never knew what to expect from him…
I hear you, Raonaid! And role playing is an awesome way to explore different personalities!
Congratulations on the release of Mayhem! Who is your favorite character in the Order of the Wolf series? Was this character easy or difficult to write?
Thank you, Bonnie! I’m not one to pick favorites (I love all my characters) but I’m really, really excited about the next Order book coming out in November, Valiant Heart. The Huntress in that book is named Ariana and she’s pretty kick-ass. So, not going to pick a fav but I’ll say that I can’t wait for readers to meet her.
Hi Angela and Congratulations! My question for you is: Who is your all-time favorite book character?
My answers:
1. I guess it depends on my mood~I’d like to know that I’m cherished but I don’t want a crazy man.LOL
2. I like strong but I don’t want someone who never utters a word. It’s nice to have a conversation!
3. A little rebelliousness and spontaneity and a sense of humor with a biting edge at times.
Hi Betty!
My all time favourite book character is Barrons from Karen Marie Monings Fever series. Not only is he HOT but he’s the absolute best of alpha bad boys. If you haven’t read that series, you really need to.
I like your answers…moderation is key there
Thank you, Angela! I’ll definitely have to read that series!
Author questions
A hero who is a little possessive in a relationship is endearing. However, being jealous or overly possessive is annoying.
I enjoy reading about the strong silent type of hero because I find this type intriguing.
Some qualities I like in a bad boy are confidence, loyalty, bravery, and the love of adventure.
Bonnie, those are all great answers! The strong silent type if the best in fiction…not so much in real life
Hello! What writers have influenced you?
Hi Susan! I’m definitely influenced by Kelley Armstrong and Kresley Cole…both write differently but have shown me how important it is to develop a unique voice in writing.
Would you please share 3 unique things about yourself — thanks
Hi Jo Anne! Three unique things, I have very long red curly hair that causes folks to make Brave comments all the time. I have many, many tattoos but have a very conventional day job so I have to hide them. Wow, this is harder than I thought it would be. I am very driven and have a strong work ethic, so I write by setting word quotas each week and I never bother with the “muse”.
1. no
2. yes — married one
3. honest, loyal, sense of humor, protective
You’re married to the strong, silent type? So you know all about those alpha males
Hi Angela! If you could choose any literary character to spend the day with, who would it be and why? What would you ask them?
lol Ohhhhh Becky…I would choose Jericho Barrons (see answer above) from Karen Marie Monings’ Fever series…he is just that memorable. I’ve read the series twice and I’m thinking I’m due for another read. He is super hot and soooooo bad. What would I ask him? Nothing. There would be no words needed for what I have planned
Answers to Author’s questions:
1. What about you, are you all for the possessive, jealous sort?
A little possessiveness and jealousy is ok, but an extreme amount is a turn off.
2. Do you love the strong silent type?
I find the strong silent type very interesting, and love reading books with them as the lead.
3. What kind of qualities do you like in your bad boys?
Loyalty, compassion, an ability to love unconditionally, strength, protectiveness, and an ability to laugh
Great answers, Becky! You’d probably like Mayhem and his pack
Love the wolf angle!!! What made you decide on Wolves???
Hi Jan! I love wolves too! Actually, it started with the idea to focus on the wolf hunters and that blossomed into a world of Hunter, Huntresses and werewolves. In this series you get to see both sides which makes for an interesting dynamic!
Hello! What was the hardest part of writing that you’ve encountered?
Hi Ashley, I think that the hardest part for me is finding a good balance. Between the hectic day job and family time, it’s difficult to carve out the time to write. I’ve also had a very aggressive release schedule this past year so I’m fitting in editing and promo as well. I’m not sure what the solution is…quit my job I guess
lol
1. I like the jealous type but not overly so
2. I love the strong and silent type
3. I like bad boys who have a caring heart under neath
Great answers! The best of everything in there!
Is there a paranormal creature that you haven’t written about yet, but would like to?
Hi Bethany! Yes! I’d like to write about vampires…I have a unique world in my head that I want to explore but I’ve been focusing on other projects. One day I’ll get to the fanged ones
Are there any other genres you would have an interest in writing ?
Hi Michelle! I’m dabbling in dark erotic suspense at the moment. It has been holding my interest lately and I have a project in the works and hope to be done in a few weeks.
What book or books are you reading?
I like just a little of the jealous and possessive type
I love the strong and silent type
Loyalty, compassion, an ability to love unconditionally, supportive
Hi Zonell! I hear you with the qualities of a good bad boy!
I’m reading Kit Rocha at the moment. Really hot stuff! I’m enjoying her books a lot.
Who is your favorite Muppet and why?
Hi Trix! That would have to be Animal. He’s my kind of crazy fun
I like a touch of jealousy or possessiveness, but any psychosis or acting like he owns me will finish me for good!
Chatterboxes definitely turn me off. On the other hand, sometimes I have a tendency to endow guys who don’t say much with qualities that they don’t have, only to find out that they’re just not super-bright. So, it’s nice if he says something to me sooner rather than later!
A sense of humor, kindness, loyalty, and intelligence are all big pluses.
This made me lol because it’s true. Strong and silent might actually mean pretty dumb.
What’s your favorite band?
Nine Inch Nails are my all time favorite band!
no
sometimes
alpha
Straight to the point
Congratulations on the release of Mayhem!!!! What was your favorite book or series that you have wriiten so far??? And why?????
Hi Brandy! Thank you! Since The Order of the Wolf is my first and only series, I pick that one as my favorite
What I love about my series is that you get to see both sides of a war…there isn’t black and white here…The Order and the Hunters have their reasons for hunting after wolves and the werewolves have their own side of the story. it makes things interesting
I also love that I’m able to put the Huntress as the focal point and give her the role of a strong female who holds the destiny of both man and wolf in her hands. I love writing strong female characters.
What made you want to write about shifters?
Hi Barb! The idea actually started with the Hunters and went from there. I really do like exploring the role of hunter/slayer and when the idea came to me I knew I’d be focusing on werewolves.
I like some possessiveness but not a lot. Jealousy is out.
My husband is strong but not silent. I go for men who are more talkative.
I like compassion, kindness, understanding and loving.
My question for you, is what habits do you have when you write?
Hi Debra! I’m not that much into jealousy either. I mean, I like the idea of it but in reality it annoys me. lol
I don’t really have habits other than butt in chair, fingers on keyboard. I don’t listen to music or eat. I just type. So boring, I know. lol But I write to quotas each week so there’s just no time for other stuff.
What about you, are you all for the jealous , possessive sort?
I think nobody can be without jealousy. It is build in thing.
possessiveness is something that you have to fight against - it is ugly thing.
Do you love the strong silent type?
Oh yes!I live with someone like this
What kind of qualities do you like in your bad boys?
Cynical, strong, rather doings then talking , loyal and smart.
Ohhh, cynical! That’s a good one!
Thanks <3
Is there a genre you have not written in yet that you would like to?
Hi Mary!
Yes, I think I’d be interested in writing historical. I find it difficult to separate myself from the erotic writing though so it might be some hot historical. lol
Do you have any current favorite shows?
Hi Amy!
I don’t watch a lot of tv but at the moment I’m totally sucked into Sons of Anarchy…love the characters!
Oh I actually got season one as a gift and its on my must binge list.
Do you have a favorite stand-alone novel?
Hi Fox! That’s a great question…I can’t even think of a stand-alone…do those even exist now-a-days? lol Thinking back I’d have to go with 1984 as an all-time favorite classic that I’ve read a few times.
1. What about you, are you all for the possessive, jealous sort?
Not really but maybe if its the right guy I will be lol haven’t found him yet
2. Do you love the strong silent type?
Oh the strong silent type is my favorite…especially if there only themselves around their other half/soul mate
3. What kind of qualities do you like in your bad boys?
I love their hard exterior and how badass they are especially if they’re only soft and protective toward their woman.
Great answers, Amy! Hard on the outside, soft on the inside…perfect
Hi Angela. What made you choose shifters and particularly Wolves as your subject matter?
Hi Karen! I picked wolves because I’d already developed the idea in my head of the Hunters and wanted them to be hunting something non-vampire. I think that werewolves fit perfectly with my story idea, a female warrior who must choose between fighting against or fighting with the wolves.
hi Angela,
?1 no
?2 sometimes
?3 just seems that way, lol but Id like good guys too
love that you love Halloween all the time
a fun holiday. DO you believe in ghosts?
Hi Dina,
Great question! I believe in the possibility of anything. If I encountered a vampire, ghost, werewolf, whatever, it wouldn’t take much for me to be all in.
Were you ever discouraged or thought to give up? How did you move forward?
Hi Ann! Oh yeah, every writer goes through that. There is a lot of frustration in this business and a lot of tears. I’ve gotten down about it, sulked for a bit but I have a really great network of writer friends who give me a kick in the butt when I need it. I just remind myself that there are many other writers out there who would kill to take my spot, so if I sulk too long or give up I will lose my opportunity.
What books have most influenced your writing life?
Hi Lisa! All of Kelley Armstrong adult books, in particular her Otherworld series has influenced me in a huge way. Lara Adrian, Kresley Cole, J.R.Ward…all of those fantastic writers have influenced me as well.
1. I am not the possessive or jealous type, I am confident in me.
2. I love the strong silent type.
3. I am not attracted to “bad bots” really, I like the kind/gentle boys
I love that! Confidence in yourself is so important! I makes other people confident in you too!
Howdy Hoe from South Dakota. I am personal not into the JEALOUS types, but I do love me some JEALOUS HEROS because they are euch great storylines. Strong silent types are also my thing because I MUST HAVE EDTREME HILARIOUSNESS in my life. I also live me some BAD BOY would know all the YUMMY NAUGHTINESS! So Mizz Angela, I always try to think of a question that NO ONE has ever asked. Who was your 11st BAD BOY? How long Julie it take to break your heart?
My first bad boy? Oh man, there was this guy I was IN LOVE with when I was sixteen…mohawk, tattoos…mmmmm…I chased him for a while and then I realized that if I stopped, he’d come for me…and he did…and then I broke his heart
hehehe…’cause that’s the way I roll. There have been a few others since then who have ripped me up a bit but what’s a heart if it’s doesn’t have some battle scars?
What is your favorite movie?
Hi Natalie! Favorite movie of all time? Breakfast Club for sure
Hi Angela,
Did you do any sort of research on the “band” side of things for Mayhem?
A little jealously goes a long way and can be nice- but possessiveness is totally unacceptable.
I do like strong- I don’t like silent. I want laughter and we need to be able to have a conversation.
In my bad boys- I like sarcasm, a bit of cynicism, an adventurer for sure, someone willing to walk on the darkside…
Hi Kristin!
I did do some research for band stuff. I have a friend who is in a band and does shows so he helped me some details. The focus isn’t really on the music side of things though so it doesn’t dominate.
I like your kind of bad boy. The dark side is a lot of fun to visit.
Name your top 3 favorite things (other than writing) to do and why
Hi Lisa,
1)Reading
2) eating
3) trap shooting
Oops! posted that before I answered why
1) Reading because you can’t learn your genre or improve your writing if you don’t. Also, it allows me to escape in a different way than tv
2) I like to eat. I’m quite motivated by food. Want me at a meeting? Tell me there will be food…I’m there.
3) I am a sport shooter. I trap shoot at a club. It’s very good for getting any frustrations out.
I’m looking for a great vacation spot in the US. What would you recommend?
Salem
Probably not what most people would like. I love it there. Everyday is Halloween there. Lots of witch stuff and the atmosphere is totally in tune with my personality.
1. nope if he wants to leave he knows where the door is. but don’t let me find out you cheated. Karma’s a bitch.
2. yep sure do.
3. smarts, sexiness, and loving
Great answers, Pam!
What are some of your must haves while writing?
HI Kristy! The only must have I need is my computer…and even that isn’t totally necessary if I’m in a pinch. I don’t need anything else.
What is your favorite part about being a Author?
Stacey, my favorite part of being an author is the writing part. When I’m in the zone working on a project and ideas are pinging me all the time, it’s super exciting. I love it!
I like the alpha bad boy with a sense of adventure and a bit of dark humor…
Hi Michelle! Yes, dark humor is a good thing, I agree.
What things inspired you to write books ?
Hi Alexandru!
I’ve always been a writer. Since I was a kid. Things that inspire me are pictures, songs, conversations, sometimes poetry. It’s amazing when an idea strikes…I’m usually scrambling for a sticky pad to jot ideas down.
What is the WORST thing about being a writer?
Hi Dovile! The worst thing is writing a synopsis and blurb. They are the WORST things EVER! lol
1) definitely not
2) very much so:)
Lol
who is your favorite author?
Hi Thomas! I have many but the one who has influenced me the most is Kelley Armstrong.
wheres your favorite place to write?
Hi Amanda! I can write anywhere but I’m usually writing in bed with my laptop. It’s killer for my neck but works the best.
From any of your books, what has been one of your favorite scenes, or types of scenes, to write?
Hi Lindsey! I enjoy writing action scenes…all that they entail
To answer your giveaway questions:
Possessive? To a point, yes. Jealous? No.
Yes! I love the strong and silent type!
Loyalty, passion, and the type that falls hard for the heroine.
Great answers, Lindsey!
What are some songs that you think convey the plot if you story.
Great question, Laura!
I have a “war” playlist that I listen to before I write action scenes. It gets me pumped.
NWO by Ministry
WISH by NIN
DU HAST by Rammstein
Just to name a few. I think that these songs in particular convey the energy of the fight scenes for sure.
I recently saw the movie Southpaw and found that soundtrack to be awesome for getting me pumped too.
Especially, the song Beast which is awesome!
