Killer Curves (Guarding Her Body) by Naima Simone Don’t Make Me Hit You with My Pocketbook!

Can I dare say curves are the ish? It could be because I’m a woman of the “thick” persuasion, as men in the south call the curvaceous chicks. Let me tell you, being blessed with the figure of Venus is both a blessing and a curse. *cough* Okay, Venus-ish. Still, as I was saying, a blessing and a curse. For example, I ain’t no salad-eating chick, so when a man takes me out to dinner (now my hubby’s problem), he’s paying a full bill. Like appetizer, entrée aaand dessert. Don’t forget the apple turnover, bruh. But the good part about that is, he doesn’t have to sit across from me for an hour, eating a steak while I’m picking at lettuce. Also, men—rappers and rockers alike—write songs about women like us. Do I need to remind anyone of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Baby Got Back or Queen’s Fat Bottomed Girls? Also, jeans were created for women with our dips and swells. We rock it, and all the faded places in the rear and thighs are because that denim is putting in some work!

So why am I talking about curvaceous women? Well, it’s actually a not-so-subtle segue into talking about Killer Curves, my new romantic suspense from Entangled Publishing. I’m so clever. *snicker* My heroine, Sloane Barrett is a thick-a-licious woman who comes to own her curves in the book. Well, that and avoid ending up the victim of a crazed stalker who is intent on her untimely demise…

Like my hero, Ciaran Ross, there are plenty of men who appreciate curves on a woman. Maybe a little too much. This is where the afore-mentioned curse comes in. Truly horrible comments and—Lawd ha’ murcy!—the pick-up lines! I just wanna be like, “Look, dude. Don’t make me hit you with my pocketbook!” Let me regale you with the winners that I’ve heard through my years… Are you ready? Here we go…

* Girl, that must be jam, ‘cause jelly don’t shake like that!
* Get over here with those childbearing hips.
*Guuhhl (Yes, I do mean “guuuhhl”), you must be made of maple syrup, ‘cause you thick as a mug!
*Are you butt dialing? Because I swear that a** is calling.
*Daaaaaaaayaaaamn. You thick as hell!
*I bet I could sit a tray up on that a**!
*Are you from the ghetto? ‘Cause I wanta ghetto hold of that a**!
And my personal favorite (not!)…
*Damn, guuuuhhl (Yes, once again, I do mean, “guuuhhl”)! All those curves and me with no brakes.

Like I said. A curse. But, hey! To all my curvy ladies out there! Hang tight and don’t forget to keep showing ‘em what you’re working with. Fat bottomed girls, unite! Why yes, I did just do a fist pump…walking away now…

About Naima Simone

Author Naima Simone

Author Bio:

Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— creating stories of unique men and women who experience the first bites of desire, the dizzying heights of passion, and the tender, healing heat of love.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

  1. Who are some of your favourite authors?

    • Hi, Minna!
I love, love, love Nalini Singh! Whether it’s paranormal or contemporary, I devour everything she writes. And love it all! :-) I also love Tessa Bailey, Sylvia Day, Jo Raven, Beth Kery, Stacy Reid, Jessica Lee, Debra Glass, Sandra Brown, Katee Robert…man, there are so many of them! Cherrie Lynn…I could go on all day with this…hee-hee! Who are some of yours, Minna?

    • I love Charlaine Harris’ books

  2. What books are currently on your Wish List?
Oh, there are soo many, but one of them is the next in Death J.D. Robb.
The Christmas shopping season has officially started! What gift are you hoping-praying-will show up under your tree? Gift card would be nice, instead of yet another candleholder or a book I’ll never read.

    • Hahahahah!! I’m SO with you on the gift card. I remember when my husband and I first started dating. His parents would give me all kinds of gifts for the holidays, I guess trying to figure out what worked. It didn’t take them long to figure out a gift card to Books-A-Million or B&N worked just fine. LOL!! I luuuuv J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts! You can’t go wrong with that on your Wish List!

  3. I love “thick” women so much that I married one!

There are not a lot of heroines that are labeled “curveous” or “thick”, did you have any issues or reservations in writing the character?

    • LOL!! That’s what I’m talking ’bout, Paul! My hubby obviously loves thick women, too. *snicker* Honestly, I didn’t have any issues or reservations writing Sloane’s character. Like I mentioned in my blog, I’ve never been one of those “salad eating chicks” so that part of her I was very familiar with. As well as the hurtful things and stereotypes more curvy women face from not just other people, but family. Even when it’s well-meaning. So I could identify with my character with that. Women come in all shapes and sizes, so our heroines should reflect that. Beauty is so much more than what size jeans a woman fits into. It’s her quirks, her heart, her spirit, her strength, her humor, her ability to overcome and still shine. And still, curves are gorgeous! As my son would say-but never to me, or I would smash him!! LOLOL!!-curves are bangin’!! And writing a man who appreciated her and thought she was sexy as hell for her body was fun and liberating! I loved it!! What an awesome question. Which, I guess, you can tell by the way I waxed on and on…hahahahah!!

  4. What is your favorite food to eat while doing your writing?

    • Hey, Josie!! *waving*
Oh Lawd. I think the better question would be what is my least favorite food to eat while writing. LOLOL!! Seriously though, coffee is a must. And truth be told I don’t really snack a lot. I’ll pause for lunch, but sometimes if I’m on a roll, I won’t even do that. But after I’m finished for the day? I’m usually famished and whatever isn’t nailed down or upholstered is fair game! LOL!! Everything bagels, hot chocolate, sour cream ‘n onion potato chips, my mom’s homemade smoothies that she freezes so I can eat like ice cream…yeah. I gets down! LMAO!

  5. Can you tell us about one of your favorite scenes from the book?

    • Hi, Kim!!
Oooh, that’s a good one. One of my fave scenes…can you tell I’m stalling…LOL!! I think one of my faves is when my hero and heroine meet for the first time and they have this moment out on the patio at her friend’s engagement party. I loved it because there’s this intensity and heat between them that just flusters the heroine. And he is so sensual but a tad bit dangerous. Especially when he offers to kill the person who made her feel small. Loved. It. Can I say that about my own book? Hahahah!! But I did. Because for her, not only did this insanely hot guy seem to be flirting with her, but he was so chivalrous-in a “I’ll kill for you” kinda way… No one had ever unconditionally had her back before, so it was the first hint of who they would be as a couple. Again, I’m going on and on. Sorry! LOLOL!! But yeah, that’s one of my faves. :-D

  6. I am hoping to get some more dragon figurines for Christmas.. I love to collect things.. lolg

  7. I get a little annoyed at the umpteenth “and then he slipped his hand up her slender thigh”. I love stories about curvy women (being one myself). Are you planning on writing more heroines that are more out of the norm? Curvy or tall or very short, etc?

    • Haaaaah!!! Marta, I think the last time I had a “slender thigh” was in the 3rd grade! ROTFL!! Curvy girls RULE!! *fist pump* I love writing different heroines. Whether they’re exotic with mixed heritages, “thick”, broken in some way. I think ALL women, whether a size two or twenty, are gorgeous. And we all deserve to be shown in romance books. So yup, I do plan to write more. But umm…how short are we talking…Like Game of Thrones short or Prince short…?

      • I’ve never seen Game of Thrones but I had a friend who was 4’9″ and had such a hard time attracting guys even though she was smart and cute. She’s over 40 now and never married or had a lot of guys interested. So I was wondering…

        • You know, Marta, I’ve never considered that. But it IS something to really brainstorm about. I bet your friend just hasn’t found the perfect guy who will love her for her. Short or really tall (I saw this TLC series with really, really tall women), love is love. I’m praying she finds hers. :-)

  8. Rubbing hands together…. I would love autographed books for a couple of authors. However, being realistic, I hoping of a charm necklace.

I’m ALWAYS being books, so I don’t currently have any on my buying Wish List. Yes, I have a one-click addiction. I refuse to get help for it.

Oh.Oh. I would LOVE to meet you in person. But I would properly just sit there and not say a word. I’m shy like that. But I would be over the moon if I was able to convince you to write me as a heroine of one of your books. The hero would of course have to be like 6’3″ with a killer bod and be able to use a gun and protect me, like no one else.

    • ROTFLMAO!!! Kiiiiim!! OMG, how did you know my next heroine is 6’3″, a rocking body like and is totally kick ass?? See? I was writing you into my book already! LOLOL!! I would LOVE to meet you in person one day, too! That would be awe-sooome! And nah, you wouldn’t sit there quiet, ’cause I do too much stupid ish for you not to comment on. *snicker* And listen, just say no to one-click rehab. All that rhetoric about Just Say No? It doesn’t apply to book addictions. Seriously, I prayed on it, and God said, My child, you’re good. And if He said it, then who am I to argue??? LOLOL!! Oooh. What charm are you hoping for? Aaand in case Nalini Singh is reading this by chance…I’d like an autographed book, too…just sayin’… Or better yet, she can just send me a copy of the TRO with her signature on it…haaaah!!

      • He sounds perfect!!! I have no idea what kind of charm I want. I want the necklace and then I can go from there. Though I’m I got a necklace from one if kids, just not what I wanted.

  9. Congrats on your new release! It’s refreshing to read about a curvy heroine. If you could invite three of your favorite authors (living or dead) to dinner, who would they be, what would you serve, and what would you discuss?

    • Hi, Bonnie!!
And thank you! It’s been an awesome release week! This question makes me dig deep. Okay, here I go *rubbing hands together*

Who: C.S. Lewis, Maya Angelou and Nalini Singh (for the pure conversation, enlightenment, revelation and to learn)

Serving: My mom’s macaroni and cheese, my grandmother’s stuffed pork chops, my father’s green bean casserole and corn bread, and my-okay Ms. Paul’s dang it!-peach pie.

Discuss: ANYTHING!! Can you just imagine it?? Everything from God to womanhood to writing to ANYTHING! LOL! I wouldn’t even talk. I’d just shut up and listen to them go!

      What an awesome question!

  10. Bearfoot and Pregnant: BBW Paranormal Shape Shifter Romance (Paranormal Dating Agency Book 10)
by Milly Taiden is on my wish list plus about 200 more books.. lol I think I would like for Naima Simone to write me a bunch of books..

    • Josie, I haven’t read Bearfoot and Pregnant! I need to go check it out. And it’s book 10? I love coming in when a series has already started so I don’t have to wait for the next books to come out. LOL! I’m impatient like that. And aaaw. Go on…no, really go on. You’d like Naima Simone to write you a bunch of books and my eyes are twin pools of beauty…I just started you off… *cough* Hee-hee! Thank yooouu, Josie! MUAH!

  11. Shirley Williamson

Hi Naima!!!!!!! Omg those pickup lines are hysterical! As a thick girl myself I have learned to embrace my curves as well as let others embrace them! Ha! ;)
Love you and love ALL of your books!

    • Haaaaaaaah!!! Amen to the letting others embrace them! It’s a gift that we must share with the world. LOLOL!! We need to write a book about the pick up lines we’ve heard. *smh* And thank you SO much for your support and lotsa love, Shirley! You ROCK!! Like Def Leppard rock!! LOL!! <3

  12. Author questions

Some books on my wish list are Blood Kiss: Black Dagger Legacy by J.R. Ward, Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark) by Kresley Cole, About a Vampire (Argeneau Vampire) by Lynsay Sands, and The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher.

I would choose Sherrilyn Kenyon because I love her Dark Hunter series and am fascinated by the complex world she has created.

    • Bonnie, yaaaahhhss!!! All of the books you listed are on mine! Especially Blood Kiss and Sweet Ruin! I’ve been waiting forever on those! Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series has been a favorite of mine for years. Some of my all time fave characters-Zarek, Acheron, Nick, Siimi-come from her world. These are great answers!! Merry Christmas, Bonnie!!

  13. Author question

For Christmas I would love to receive Amazon gift cards for books and gift cards for my favorite craft stores.

  14. Hello! Any special holiday traditions that you look forward to?

    • Hi, Susan!
Christmas is my all time favorite holiday. And it’s because of family. We shop together, bake cookies together, watch Christmas movies together-one of them is A Christmas Story at least once since it comes on 24 hours on Christmas Eve! Love that movie, and of course, A Christmas Carol, doesn’t matter which version. One of our steadfast traditions is everyone cooks a dish and we do a potluck style Christmas dinner at mine, my sister or mother’s house. Then we have a rousing-and brutal-game of Taboo along with a talent show. No eggs are thrown…this year…LOLOL!! We have a wonderful time! Do you have any holiday traditions?

      • We watch holiday movies together as well. Favorites include Miracle on 34th Street and The Santa Clause.

        • Yes, those are classics! I just watched It’s A Wonderful Life this weekend. Sigh. Love that movie. The holiday movies are like the music. They really make it feel like Christmas! :-)

  15. Guuuuhhl, it’s great to chat with you again and Congratulations on your release! It sounds delightful and I love realistic characters. Why do you have to look emaciated to be sexy? It’s such a disservice to young girls! Are you all set for Christmas or are you a last minute shopper?

  16. What elements would you like to see more into books?

    • Hi, Raonaid! It’s so cool “seeing” you again! :-D
I love reading the emotional elements in a book. No matter what genre, it’s the emotion and characteristics-pretty, ugly, whole, damaged-that make up a person that I love reading in books. And when an author takes the time to delve into the characters and make them relatable, memorable and HUMAN I so appreciate that. And I would love to see that more! What elements would you like to see more? Great question!

  17. Hi, Betty!! *waving madly*
It’s awe-soooome to chat with you again, too!! And thank you on the congrats! I’m a tad bit excited if you haven’t been able to tell… :-D I’m a bit biased, so I really love the book and would write a glowing review but…Hahahah!! I remember my first curvy heroine was Grace from Lori Foster’s Too Much Temptation, years ago. Sigh. It was so wonderful. It was the first time I read in a romance novel where the the hero was absolutely enraptured with every inch of her curves, even when others couldn’t understand why. He LOVED her, and more, LUSTED after her, and I fell in love. And from that moment on, I wanted to write a heroine like that who owned her body, and a hero who loved that she did. And little known fact about me…my middle name is Procrastinator. So uh, usually when I shop, the cashiers and sales people are shooting eye-daggers at me ’cause they’re trying to get home and out of the store. It adds a bit of excitement to shop on Christmas Eve, don’t you think? Umm…don’t answer that…*snicker*

  18. My answers:

What gift are you hoping-praying-will show up under your tree? Books, gift cards, cash and you can’t go wrong with chocolate!!

What books are currently on your Wish List? Hmmm. How much time do you have? My list is extensive and varied-I read everything! Here’s a few:
Everything She Forgot: A Novel by Lisa Ballantyne,
Disclaimer: A Novel by Renée Knight,
Killing Thyme (Wwl Mystery) by Peter Abresch,
Housekeeping: A Novel by Marilynne Robinson,
There Was an Old Woman: A Novel of Suspense by Hallie Ephron,
Never Tell a Lie by Hallie Ephron,
Follow You Home by Mark Edwards,
X (A Kinsey Millhone Novel) by Sue Grafton,
Dishing the Dirt: An Agatha Raisin Mystery (Agatha Raisin Mysteries) by M. C. Beaton,
Is It Still Murder Even If She Was a Bitch? by Robin Leemann Donovan
See what I mean??? When I come across a book I would like to read, I log into my Amazon account and put the book in my cart and then save it for later. That way I have a somewhat comprehensive list and I also have a list if anyone wants to buy books for me. I might put other things in my cart, too-jewelry, handbags…

If there was one author you could pull a Misery on-sans kidnapping and sledgehammer and terrorizing-to write book after book for you, who would it be? That’s a tough one! So many come to mind but if I can only have one, I would choose Sue Grafton. Her books are very well written and I love her heroine, Kinsey Millhone! She cuts her hair with manicure scissors, exercises so she can outrun the bad guys, has been known to moan as she eats and has one multi-purpose black dress. She’s a strong, independent woman and she does have curves.

    • Betty, what you want to see under your tree is what I want under mine! Throw in a pair of boot socks and I’m good! And a coffeemaker since mine just decided to go to the upper room! LOL!! Okay…Is It Still Murder Even If She Was a Bitch??? Coolest. Title. EVAH!! Hahahahahahah!! I’d read it just because of the title! I’m like you, a book catches my eye, I just add it because I know I’m not going to remember it when the time comes to one-click. Right now, J.R. Ward’s Blood Kiss is at the top of my Wish List. I want it!! Like just under Henry Cavill wrapped in a box under my tree want it!! LOLOL!! Sue Grafton, YES!! I’ll come visit your room with the big DO NOT ENTER sign on it to see Sue and you can visit mine to see Nalini. Deal? LOLOL!! Merry Christmas, Betty!!!

      • You have to have a coffemaker now! I don’t know if you can wait until Christmas, I couldn’t! Without coffee, I’d be a lump in the corner of the couch! I agree, I would read that book just because of the title! I love it! Definitely a deal, I’ll visit your room and you visit mine! I hope you have the best Christmas ever—it sounds like you and your famiy have fun! Enjoy!

        • Let me tell you, Betty, Dunkin Donuts is about to make me their customer of the month! LOL! They’re going to have my picture hanging up behind the cash register. Hee-hee! Enjoy your family this holiday! Huuuuge hug!

  19. The Christmas shopping season has officially started! What gift are you hoping-praying-will show up under your tree?
—- Hubby and I agreed not to buy each other gifts. Instead, we will wait until after Christmas to buy ourselves whatever we wanted. We would focus completely on our three sons. Mother-in-law never buys me anything that I am into. Mainly stuff for the house or everyday use.

What books are currently on your Wish List?
—- The last two books of Jill Shalvis… The last Julie Ann Walker. Couple of Nalini Singh books too.

If there was one author you could pull a Misery on-sans kidnapping and sledgehammer and terrorizing-to write book after book for you, who would it be?
—- Mercedes Lackey – I LOVE her Valdemar books.

    • LOL!! Raonaid, hat’s pretty cool how you and your husband gift yourselves after Christmas. I mean, one word: SALE! :-D my mother-in-law is pretty intuitive about what I love. Translation, she buys me Books-a-Million and B&N gift cards and jewelry. She knows me. Hee-hee! As for my hubby, I send him an extensive list with item, number, color, size, and quantity on it. I leave nothing to chance with him. LOL!! Nalini Singh would be on my Wish List but I’ve read everything she’s ever written…I’m a glutton with her. LOL! Jo Raven’s new book is at the top of mine along with J.R. Ward. I remember you LOVE Mercedes Lackey, and I’m not surprised by that answer. LOL!! Merry Christmas to your and your family!

      • - Laughs - Usually it is candle or anime-related for me. And for him it’s balloon related (he twists balloons on the side)

Not mine… Shh, there has been a couple items (knick knacks and other things) she’d given me that I gave to my mom. Last year, I got several tank tops, shirts, a zebra printed sleep pants (not my style but I wear them in the mornings when I take the youngest to the bus stop)

Yup, Mercedes Lackey is my idol. That woman is a bard with her stories

My hubby comes straight out “What do you want?” I have an idea for the boys to get their dad.

  20. I have not read Killer Curves yet, but when I do will I pick up any phrases that I can you with my wife? And as being a self-proclaimed “thick” guuuuuhl (LOL) yourself, is there anything your husband says, or does, to make you feel sexy? (excuse my modesty in trying to pick up tips. LOL)

    • Hahahahah!! I think when you read Killer Curves, you’ll find my hero is a bit of a dirty talker, so umm, I’m thinking if your wife will either luuuuuv if you pick up some of his phrases…or hit you over the head with a rolling pin, Wilma Flintstone style. LOLOL!! And as a self-proclaimed “thick guuuuhl” (I need to make some pins up with that on them!! LMBO!!), yes, I have to say my hubby makes me feel very loved and safe and sexy. And he does that by telling me all the time. Even when he sees me in a head scarf and the same clothes he saw me in when he left in the morning. *snicker* He also sets up dates for us, holds my hand in public, gives me spontaneous kisses and rubs my feet. If you haven’t been able to tell, he ‘s the romantic in the family. Even though I write romance books, I’m decidedly NOT the romantic. LOL! But he more than makes up for my lack. Feel free to use his tips! Hee-hee! ;-D

  21. Q for Naima. While you were visiting England this year, was there any place that you thought perfect for one of your couples to ‘do it’?

    • Joy, I just spit my hot chocolate all over my computer screen! LMAO!!! Why yes, there were a couple of places that would be perfect for one of my hero and heroines to get their swerve on. They might be arrested for it, but Stonehenge. Right on one of those circles. A less risky place would be this really pretty park we sat and read at in Whitechapel. Yes, Jack the Ripper Whitechapel, but it was a really lovely park, and after dark, it would be a fun place to get frisky! Hee-hee! Or even one of those small, dark rooms in the Roman Bath…Okay, I’m getting ideas…LOL!!

  22. What do you feel is the hardest thing about writing?

    • Hi, Lisa!!
Honestly, for me, the hardest thing about writing is discipline. It’s up to me to put my butt in the chair, keep it there and write. There isn’t anyone standing over me and there’s no punching a time clock. And for me, the Queen of Procrastination, it’s not always easy. I’m learning though! Boy, is it always a learning process. The second hardest would be working past sickness, pains or writer’s block. It’s writing even when your muse has anal glaucoma-meaning, she can’t see her a** coming out. LOL!! But the joys and satisfaction far outweigh the hard things. And even those make me stronger as a writer. :-)

  23. What were your favorite books of the year?

    • Hey, Amanda!
Of the year? Oh man! Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series. Need by K.I. Lynn. Deep by Kylie Scott. Archangel’s Enigma by Nalini Singh. Those are just a few, but the ones that come directly to mind. I’m stalking all of these authors’ websites for the new releases, by the way…LOL! What are some of your fave books of 2015?

      • Oooh- thanks for the book recs! I haven’t read those yet. Some of my favs of 2015 were A Darker Shade of Magic, The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly, Under a Painted Sky, Archivist Wasp, and A Thousand Nights.

  24. What do you like to do together with your family for fun?

    • Hi, Bethany!
Oooh! We love to watch movies together. My son and I especially love to watch Flash and Arrow together! We play Taboo and recently we played Laser Tag! We had a ball! I almost died from all the running, but it was fun! LOL!! My kids have a very active schedule with band, wrestling, dancing and church, but we just love spending time together doing the little things. Or when they can pry me out of my room and the computer…hee-hee!

  25. To answer two of your questions. I would love to find a letter under the tree saying my boyfriend got his full time position at the fire department. It would truly help our crappy financial situation. My current wish list is Geri Fosters Women of Courage Series.

    • That’s awesome, Karla! Your very own firefighter! You have a real life hero. Way to go, girl! *high five* I have you guys in my prayers and on my Christmas Wish List, too! I haven’t read Geri Foster’s books yet, but I’ll be off to Amazon…again. *snicker* Merry Christmas, Karla!

      • She usually writes a Falcon series with male heroes that put The Expendables to shame. But her Women of courage is new and interesting especially since the first heroine went to hell and back and stayed strong.

  26. My question for you is have you always embraced your curves, even in high school? Or did you have to learn to accept all that loveliness? I’ve always been curvy and heavier than the girls in my class and most the time I could embrace it and love my differences but sometimes it was harder. Especially when the skinny blondes got picked for Friday night dates and I was home alone… But I wouldn’t trade my curves for anything.

    • Hey, Karla!! It took me a while to embrace all this curvaceousness. :-D I was never the slender kid in school. My grandmother would always tell me, the only thing that wants bones are dogs and they bury them. LOL! She had a way with words…still does. It was tough, and I wanted to be thinner. But until my junior year of high school, I didn’t fully realize that, Yo! These boobs, hips and butt are hot! LOL! Seriously, though, that’s when I began to accept that the curves were awesome. Still, even then, I struggled-and still do sometimes-with body image. But I’m content with myself. More than I’ve ever been. Right now, I tell my daughter every day that she’s beautiful so when others dare say something to her, she’ll have me in her ear contradicting mean, petty comments. She’s just 10, and I can already tell she’s going to have a figure on her. I need to brush off my Taebo skills…LOLOL!! And I bet you’re gorgeous with your curves, too, Karla!!

      • Thank you!!! It took me awhile to get my confidence in myself back. I was married to someone who didn’t truly embrace my awesomeness and had me feeling kinda crappy about myself…but after I left him I net someone who found my curves extremely sexy and restored my confidence and taught me how to love not only myself but life again. A real life Cowboy to rescue me and gave me my own fairy tale ending…that let me embrace a life with my firefighter… I went from reading these stories to starring in one…I couldn’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this new life

        • Wow, Karla! You just made my night! How cool is it that you get to live your own romance novel? I’m so thrilled that you found not only the love of your life and real-life hero, but you discovered your confidence in the awesome, beautiful curvaceous woman you have! I LOVE knowing that you own your curves and ROCK ‘em! Merry Christmas!!

  27. Naima,
First I want to say that you have GREAT, DIFFERENT & UNEXPECTED questions. I don’t think I could just pick one author, but Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Lori Leigh & Shelly Laurenston would be my top picks! And I would use rope not a sledgehammer because I didn’t wanted to damage their writing hand.

Books on my Christmas Wish List is tooooooo long to name, but Lisa Klepyas next book, MARRYING WINTERBORNE, certainly on the top of my list.

KILLER CURVES sounds like one of my fav storylines, which I call FORBIDDEN FRUIT SYNDROME. Is also sounds not only intense action, but INTENSELY NAUGHTY! I will differently be putting your book on my Christmas List, too.

    My questio is:
Are you are Santa person or a Grinch person?

    • Hahahahahah!! Yes, definitely rope instead of a sledgehammer. But the thick, thick rope. *snicker* Shelly Laurenston, yaaahhhsss!!! I’m just waiting for her next Crow book to come out!! My sister just bought G.A. Aiken’s next dragon book, and I’m watching her like a boiled pot waiting for her to finish. Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken has me. Falling. Out!! I’m so happy Killer Curves hits those fave storyline buttons with you! Everything you’ve described is exactly what I love in books and love writing.

Now, Grinch or Santa person? Definitely SANTA!! My hubby is the Grinch! As a matter-of-fact, he created his own profile picture that makes him looks like the Grinch! LOL!! I’m all, let’s decorate outside until the neighbors complain, let’s throw everything on the tree, let’s play Christmas music on blast! LOL!! And he’s all, Sigh. Whatever you say, dear. LOLOL!! Which are you, Patty?

      • I was a SANTA person until I was down disabled by my Meniere’s Disease. Now I don’t know if I will be spinning on steroids, in vertigo HADES or able to get around w/out crawling. It’s a GRINCH situation for my family, but if I can read than I can enter my AWESOME BOOK COSMOS!!

  28. Hi Naima,

Welcome to Bitten by Books, it is great to have you with us today.

My question for you is; do you have a favorite book or series that you have written so far????

If so, which is it and why???

    • Hi, Brandy!! And thank you for the welcome! I think my favorite book-at the moment-is Beauty and the Bachelor. Probably because I adore fairy tales, and this book is based on one. It’s also about how people are able to see past the exterior to the wounded heart beneath and find love. Healing, forgiveness, love. I’m a sucker for it all. And I wrote a book that I’m a sucker for. :-) Merry Christmas, Brandy!!

  29. who is your favorite author?

    • Hi, Thomas!
My favorite author, if I have to choose just one, is Nalini Singh. Her books are like art. She uses words like an artist would use paints-she draws the picture right in your head of the worlds she creates. Sigh. I’ll read the Magna Carta if she wrote it! LOL!

  30. whats been your greatest Personal reward since writing?

    • Wow, my greatest personal reward…dang, that’s good. I would have to say it was hearing my kids call me a writer for the first time when someone asked them what I did for a living. Straight validation…and affirmation. And right after that finding my daughter’s notebook where she started writing her own story. It was awesome. :-D

  31. Books!!!

  32. Vicki Lewis Thompson’s Latest Christmas Book Merry Christmas Cowboy

  33. kidnap… Vicki Lewis Thompson

  34. Do you have any current favorite shows or books?

    • Do I? Amy, I’m a straight reality tv junkie. Okay, the less politically correct term would be a Reality TV whore. But hey, it is what it is. I watch the Real Housewives of everywhere, Love & Hip Hop, 90 Day Fiance, Married at First Sight…Bravo is my pimp. LOL!! And then I watch Arrow and Flash! Love them!! As far as books, my current favorites are the ones I’m reading and loving. Tessa Bailey’s Crashed Out and Cherrie Lynn’s Watch Me Fall. Oh man. I love both of these ladies, and their books have been well worth the wait!! What are your current faves, Amy? And Merry Christmas!!

      • Merry Christmas to you too! My favs are Major Crimes, Walking Dead, Supernatural, Gotham, and The Librarians I just finished all of Kristen Ashley’s books so i’m kinda in book limbo right now…i might just reread them all over again until i find another awesome author to binge read :)

        • Amy, I just jumped onto the Walking Dead bandwagon this year, and am still catching up on Netflix, but loooooving it! Don’t know why it took me so long. And Team Dean!! Supernatural fan here! Have been for years! And The Librarians are hilarious!! Oh snap, Kristen Ashley’s Chaos series. Yaaaahhhssss!! I could definitely read them over and over again!

  35. The Christmas shopping season has officially started! What gift are you hoping–praying–will show up under your tree?
books, giftcards for books, or a new bookshelf :)

What books are currently on your Wish List?
a lot of Kristen Ashley books and Patricia Cornwell’s newest Scarpetta.

If there was one author you could pull a Misery on–sans kidnapping and sledgehammer and terrorizing–to write book after book for you, who would it be?
Either Julie Garwood or Kristen Ashley.

    • Amy, Julie Garwood! We would have to do a co-op kidnap on her, ’cause I LOVE HER!! Her historicals are magical! She gave me so many hours of escape. Gave? Shooot! She still does! All great answers, Amy! And ones I totally and wholeheartedly agree with!

  36. Hi! :) Wow, those quotes really happened? Crap… ugh, people. Hmm, well, I guess that wasn’t really the question… ah, well, do you have a favorite type of chocolate or chocolate candy or the like, and of course, what is it? (Probably biased question given my present mood… and that there isn’t any around…. LOL)

    Lois

    • and your questions -

      1 - B’s for my classes this semester… :)

2 - uh….. I’d have to go check, but I know I’m thinking about next semester’s books… which aren’t as fun as wish list books, because one is required and the other isn’t.

3 - oh lordy, while I quite a few autobuy authors, they seem to be doing just fine churning out books faster than I can get to them because of school…. LOL So wouldn’t even need to do that! LOL But one to come to mind, finally is Jill Shalvis.

      • Oooh! I’m sending you TONS of well wishes and Santa’s Nice List vibes for your B’s!! And uh, I’ve been in college and understand how expensive those text books can be, so I totally understand why they’re at the top of your wish list! What are you in school for? Jill Shalvis needs to be very flattered…or afraid…snicker!

    • LOLOL!!! It seems like we’re having the same mood, Lois! Hands down, no discussion, nope, nada, I ain’t trying to hear nuthin’ else, my favorite chocolate is Symphony bars. They are ambrosia for the soul, second only to coffee! I have spoken!! Snicker!

  37. If you could take your family anywhere in the world for a christmas holiday where would you go?

    • Hi, Emmad!!
Actually, there is no place I would rather be for Christmas other than home. For me, Christmas is a time not just for immediate family but extended. And it wouldn’t be the holidays without being home with all of them! But right before Christmas, like for a shopping trip or something, Gatlinburg, TN or London or Prague. Sigh. I would love to see those decorated for Christmas and snowing… *sigh* Where would you like to go, Emmad?

      • We are in New Zealand and don’t normally get to see all the family at the same time anyway. Would love to be able to go somewhere for a white christmas once.

        • Hah! I just realized I had your name wrong! Forgive me! So, hi, Emma!! *waving* And just give me a moment to get over my jealousy that you live in New Zealand…Now I would LOVE to visit your homeland! And not just because my fave movie of ALL time, LOTR, was filmed there. That’s just a coincidence…LOL!! I bet you don’t have white Christmases though. I live in the southern US so in the last 15 years I’ve only experienced a couple. But I grew up in the northeastern US, so saw my fair share of white Christmases. They’re lovely, aren’t they? For years, my family was spread out, too, so I understand not getting to see them at one time. Thankfully, now that my parents are older, they’re closer to me, and we have spent the last few together. It’s been awesome! Fingers crossed for a white Christmas! Shoooot…toes, too. We’re gonna need a miracle… LOL!

  38. What book would you like to write but just cannot right now?

    • Hi, Debra!! *waving*
This is so funny, but my father and I were just having this conversation! He had watched a documentary on Anne Rice and was telling me how she ended up writing about Lestat and Interview with the Vampire because she’d decided to try something different from what she’d been writing. So he asked me what I would like to try and write and I think something really cool and timeless like Lord of the Rings. And even something like Pilgrim’s Progress. Or even something like The Hunger Games. Who knows? They might just be in my future! :-D

  39. hi Naima,

what genre do you enjoy reading the most?

    • Hi, Dina!
For reading, I really love contemporary romance because most of it is character driven. And I love reading characters overcome emotional scars to healing by the power of love. I also love paranormal. I mean, supernatural creatures who are sexy too boot? Yeah, I get lost in those two genres quite often! What genre do you enjoy, Dina? And Merry Christmas!!

  40. Favorite holiday?

    • Hi, Jenn!
I absolutely LUUUUUUUUV Christmas! This is my holiday because the world is prettier and kinder, at least for a little while, you know? And I know my family will be together. Plus the movies, cartoons and music. And some of my favorite memories from childhood are of Christmas. Yep, hands down, my fave! Merry Christmas, Jenn!

  41. What genre would you like to take a crack at writing, but you haven’t yet for whatever reason?

    • Hi, Fox!
I would love to try writing New Adult. I have just fallen in love with the genre and would love to take a stab at writing it. Maybe I’m too chicken though. :-) Like how could I compare to Kylie Scott, Elle Kennedy and Jo Raven, just to name a few! They made me fall in love with the genre. But if I ever do muster up the courage, I would love to write it! Great question, Fox! Merry Christmas!!

  42. What has Influence you to be come a Author? and at what age did you get Influenced?

    • Hey, Stacey!
Truly, reading influenced me becoming an author. Julie Garwood, Linda Howard, C.S. Lewis, Johanna Lindsey, and yes, all the Sweet Valley High books and a bunch of the teen romance books I used to read. Back then, they influenced me to write my own stories. I wrote my first romance when I was 12. It starred me and Ralph Tresvant from New Edition. Hee-hee! But later, having my son at 24 influenced me to become an author, as in actually pursue being published. It was like having him solidified in my heart and mind what I wanted to do, what my passion was, and that was waking up every day and being able to write for a living. Awesome question, Stacey! Thank you, and happy holidays to you!! :-)

  43. What are your holiday plans?

    • Hey!
For Christmas I plan on taking a few days off and spending it with my family. My hubby has the whole week of Christmas off, so it’s going to be awesome! Other than shopping, baking cookies, watching A Christmas Carol and dinner, nothing out of the ordinary. But it’s going to be special just because it’s with them! :-) Do you have plans?

  44. 1. gift cards
    2. too many to name
    3. none

  45. I agree, I SO agree, and my list would probably have your worried…and sending out alerts to a bunch of people. LOLOL!!

  46. Hi Naima!!

I’m halfway through Killer Curves and I am loving it!! I had to purchase Witness to Passion first ‘cos one must read the books in the same series before the current one (oh yes!!). Anywho …. I have discovered my favourite part in Killer Curves and it goes something like this:

    Quote -
    “CHAPTER TWO:
Okay, so her vagina was really, really pissed off with her.”

LMAO!!!! Dear Lord, after reading Sloane’s first meeting Ciaran, I completely understood where she was coming from LOLOL!!! I love your writing and from the short time I have gotten to know you in the Saints n Sinners group, you write the same way you talk - witty, humorous, colorful, and a lot of sass! Boo-yaa!! This appeals to me greatly!

My only question is … where the heck do you come up with these sexy-ass names for your characters. In the first book, Addisyn … current book, Ciaran … I love them. They’re unique and original.

    <3 Rakz

  47. The pick up lines are hilarious.

Did you celebrate when you first published?

    • Hi, Ann!!
LOLOL!! At the time, I was too busy giving those guys my “stink face” to appreciate their *cough* creativeness. But now, with some distance…*snicker* Nah, I’m still giving them stink face. LOL! But they are too funny! Y’know, when I first found out I was published I went screaming down the hallway of my office (I worked at a bank at the time) and then I went out into the parking lot calling everybody, screaming. My hubby sent over an Edible Arrangements, and I think we went out to dinner. So I do believe we celebrated. But my sweet husband still celebrates every book I finish. When I type then end on a book, the tradition he’s set is making me his deee-llicious stuffed mushrooms. It’s the perfect incentive. LOL!!

  48. Have you ever written M/M?

    • Hi, Lee!
No, I’ve never written M/M, but my critique partner and romance author, Jessica Lee, does and I critique for her. :-) The closest I’ve come, I”m afraid. LOL!!

  49. Are there other genres you would have an interest in writing?

    • Hi, Michelle!
I would love to attempt to write a New Adult book. And it’s funny because for years I didn’t really care for 1st person books. But in 2014 I read Kylie Scott’s Lick. And it was all over for me then. She did it so incredibly well. After that, I went in search of other NA books similar to hers and found absolute gems. Which expanded my library until I was just snatching them up. Kylie Scott, Jo Raven, Elle Kennedy, Penelope Ward, Penelope Douglas, Harper Bentley, Jennifer Armentrout, and so many more. So I would love to write a NA book that captured even half of the magic of these awesome authors. Maybe someday I’ll drag on my big girl panties and do it! LOL!!

  50. Is there a genre you have not written in yet that you would like to?

    • Hi, Mary!
Other than NA, my dream would be to write a fantasy book like Lord of the Rings. I mean, can you imagine? Creating a complex world with equally complex characters with their own traditions and customs. Writing my own language! I would love to write something ass timeless as that. Or even something like Pilgrims Progress or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Something with Christian symbolism and messages of faith wrapped up in fiction. I would LOVE to write books like those that influenced me so much as a reader!

  51. Thanks for writing curvy heroines! My husband and I have a pretty good sex life, but he can always tell when I’ve been reading one of my-in his words-”horny books.” So, if I had one question from you, it would be does your husband “benefit” from the hot sex scenes-and you can write one heck of a hot sex scene-while you’re writing it? ;)

    • LMAO!! Sand, I’m just laughing because I can just imagine my husband’s face if I read him this question. He would give me serious side-eye, like, Yeah, Nai. DO I BENEFIT??? Hahahahahaah!! I would say yes, he just doesn’t realize it. Snicker! Although I will say, he is the most open person evah! When I have questions about how certain things feel to a man or about certain parts or positions, he’s always ready to give me his input. Another reason he’s the head of R&D. LOL!! And thank you for the compliment of my sex-scene writing skills! Hee-hee! Got me blushing over here…*pinkie crinkle*

  52. The Christmas shopping season has officially started! What gift are you hoping-praying-will show up under your tree?

    One word: Ciaran

You thought I was going to say books right!?! LOL! *wink*

    • ROTFL!!! I did, Rakz! I thought your were going to say books, but your answer is just as cool! I would love for him to show up under my tree, too. Sigh. Wrapped in a big, red bow and nothing else. Wait. Did I just write that…where’s the freaking delete button…HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

  53. Have you ever written a Mary Sue character?

    • Hi, Dovile!
I think writers add elements of themselves in some small way into their characters, whether the characters are male or female. Like, in one book, my hero loved Queen like I do. Or with Sloane, giving her curves. But I definitely try not to have Mary Sue characters. I don’t want to write myself into a book or avoid doing the “heavy lifting” of writing a character that is relatable, individual and memorable. There have been times when I’ve seen characters going that route, and I’m like, hold up. Back it up. What am I not doing? What is he/she missing to make them 3D? On the same note, though, we do draw from our own experiences or others’ experiences. Because while they are characters, we try to make them as human as possible, dealing with real life issues and overcoming hindrances and obstacles-emotional, sexual, physical, spiritual-that we all deal with. So it’s a balance. Did I answer the question? Hahahahahah!!!

  54. Do you prefer eBooks or paperbacks?

    • Hey, Natalija!
I feel so sacrilegious saying this, but I prefer ebooks. *ducking* LOL!! I’ve become so spoiled by my Kindle and having all these books-a library!-within a swipe of a finger. And better? More for me to buy at the swipe of a finger! Although my hubby isn’t too happy about that. :-) That said, I still love my paperbacks. I love the “new book” smell, I love thumbing through pages, AND I love that I can flip to the back of the book and see how it ends much more easily than an ebook! LOLOL!! But instead of four or five books in my purse, I can have hundreds of books in my purse with my Kindle! I mean…how can you beat that? :-)

  55. Who’s your favorite Muppet and why?

  56. A vacation voucher would be nice!

I’ve been wanting to read EM Lynley’s JADED and 24-KARAT CONSPIRACY, Tara Lain’s KNAVE OF BROKEN HEARTS, WINGING IT by Ashlyn Kane and Morgan James…

I couldn’t do that to someone…when a plot is forced, it’s no good. Most of my favorites are pretty prolific, anyway…

    • Ohh, yes! A vacation voucher that included flight, hotel, and spending money! :-) I have to look up your Wish List books. They sound pretty doggone cool! And I love my authors, but I’m so impatient if they put a book out every week it probably wouldn’t be enough for me. I’m just that greedy. LOLOL!!

  57. Hi Naima!

Do you have any unusual Christmas or holiday traditions?

This year I am really hoping for a proper Dutch Oven (preferably a Le Creuset in Palm).

My reading wish list if pretty long…what I really need is more time!

So I would need to be able to bring someone back- but David Eddings. I just loved the Belgariad series and all the other books related and wanted them to last forever!

    • Hi, Kristin!
Yes, we actually do have an unusual Christmas tradition. We have a talent show on Christmas. One year my husband and I did a dance routine to the Temptations’ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. We sing, play instruments…we have a ball. :-)

You said Dutch Oven, and I swear I gained five pounds. LOL!! I haven’t read David Eddings, but I need to go look up his books on Amazon now! Merry Christmas, Kristin!!

      • A talent show?!? That is awesome!

Eddings is great! The Belgarid/Mallorean series is my favorite. It is the one series that I reread every year- it just feels like home to me.

Oh man, braised short ribs are on the menu as soon as I get that thing Because if Santa does not bring it- my credit card will ;)

        Merry Christmas to you!

  58. 1) an ereader, but it’s not going to happen:)

    2) my wishlist is as long as a novel:) to nave just a few that are soon to be published: Born of Betrayal by Sherrilyn Kenyon; Unforgiven by Lauren Kate; The Black Wolves by Kate Elliott; Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout; Spike by Kathy Reichs; Inherit the Stars by Tessa Elwood

    3) now that would be one boring novel:)) I’d probably choose Sherrilyn Kenyon, her writing style seems to be custom made for me.

  59. if you were stranded on a deserted isle and all the necessities are taken care of what 3 things would you have to have.

  60. Did you keep any of your writings (stories) etc. from when you were a kid? Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer?

  61. wheres your favorite place to write
