Author Keri Lake Release Party and $50.00 Amazon Gift Card Contest - CLOSED

Soul Resurrected (Sons of Wrath, #2) (Volume 2) by Keri Lake Soul Resurrected is the second installment in Keri Lake’s Sons of Wrath series. This book picks up where Soul Avenged left off and focuses on the Wrath brother, Logan.

Born into suffering and forced to endure decades in the feared demon prison of the underworld has left Logan a scarred and cold, remorseless killer. Cursed with the inability to feel another’s touch, he’s the most detached of any brother, preferring a blade to the comfort of a female.

His character was probably the most difficult to write so far. The emotions that went into this book were much deeper and darker than I had explored in previous novels. Though I’ve never shied away from emotionally disturbed characters, Ayden included, I found myself cringing at some of the flashbacks he suffers throughout the story.

The original manuscript was much larger than the final version (we’re talking 600+ pages!) and so, many of the dark scenes were removed in order to keep the plot moving, but Logan certainly has quite a backstory – one that I only lightly touched on in Soul Resurrected, but would love to explore in more depth - perhaps in a novella at some point.

The books have been called a cross between urban fantasy and paranormal romance, and their distinguishing element is the violence and darkness that I feel is just a natural part of the world that I created. Each character has a past, and will play a part in unraveling the enormous overarching story. Set in Detroit, both Ayden’s and Logan’s stories are very close to me and sort of reflect the way I see the city – a gem, buried in scars.

Book three in the series is slated for a late spring/early summer release.

Okay so, I’m curious … I recently ran a cover model contest and allowed readers to choose the cover model for Soul Resurrected. Julian Christian received the most votes and is the handsome face you see on the cover. The next book, Soul Enslaved, is Gavin’s.

Author Bio:

“Keri Lake is a married mother of two living in Michigan. She writes paranormal romance, urban
fantasy and loves a good, tragic love story. Though novels tend to be her focus, she also writes
short stories and flash fiction whenever distraction manages to suck her in to the Land of Shiny
Things.

When she isn’t toiling away on plots and protagonists, she enjoys reading, music and travel. If
she could create mystical powers for herself, she’d have the ability to flash to anywhere in the
world. And if she could flash to anywhere in the world at this very moment, she’d be staring at
the ocean from her Adirondack chair on the shores of North Carolina.”

  1. How do you make time to write these novels, while having time to spend with your family?

    • I think this is a challenge for many writers. Its very difficult to turn off the muse once it gets going! I happen to wake up at ungodly hours to write (like, 3:30-4:00am) and pick up the writing in the evenings after the kiddos have gone to bed.

  2. If the Sons of Wrath series were made into a movie, who would you envision playing the parts of your characters?

My favorite of the brothers happens to be Gavin (even though I love them all). Do you have anyone in mind for him? ;)

    • Haha! Oh man, I wish someone would tell ME! I have to begin looking for candidates for his cover. Gavin, in my mind, is the ultimate alpha. He’s smooth, sexy, logical. I can’t imagine who would play him in a movie! Or any of the others for that matter. But I’d love to know your picks! :)

  3. i Keri!!

i’m so glad i could join at least a little!

How do you decide the order in which the brothers get their own story?

    • This is entirely based on the chaos going on inside my head. I typically have NO IDEA whose side story will end up carrying over into the next book. In fact, I tried to plot out Gavin’s book a little and hit walls. When I let go and wrote how I normally write with no boundaries or ‘plan’, the ideas kept me going for hours. It really plays out like a movie in my head based on the events that just seem to come natural. So to answer, it’s always somewhat of a surprise :)

  4. Hiiiii Keriiiiii!!!! <3 Do you think Zayne could be mine? [I know, I ask the most interesting questions :)!!!]

    • Hi Naomi!! :D

You know, Zayne is such a tortured guy-to have suffered loss like that is unimaginable. Yep, I think definitely needs someone to show him some love ;)

      • Ha! I knew it!!!! HE IS MINE!
I’m really curious about something though, does your husband read your books? It’s something that really intrigues me, I always wonder that lol.

        • He has read some of Soul Avenged. But he’s actually the first person I run scenes by so he just about reads them when they’re in horrible, rough, needing edits form. Lol!

  5. To answer your question: i have enjoyed greatly to participate in the cover model contest/vote it was interesting to see their personnality and not only their look.i would participate again in a heartbeat

i don’t have a favourite cover model nor do i have someone in mind for Gavin

  6. Is there any news about finding your books on bookdepository to help international fans?

Have you received some contact to see your books translated or not yet?

    • I have had one contact to have Soul Avenged translated into a Spanish audiobook.

Hmmmm. I will have to look into this. I think Soul Resurrected is available there. Might have to search by my name though. Kinda screwy. I’ll look into Soul Avenged though. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, miki!

      • Yes soul ressurected is finally available on TBD, halos as well but nothing for Soul Avenged yet so i must be patient ( really patient because if i take it on amazon because of teh shipping fee i’m above the limit to avoid taxes and….book+shipping fee+50dollars taxes ( should be less but they always ask more than the normal one)….a little too much even if i adore your books)

  7. I have had the honor and privilege to sit and write a horror story with you in the wee hours of the morning (trying to scare our siblings/cousins!). Do you think you may write a horror story in the future?

  8. Who are some of your favorite paranormal authors and how have they influenced your writing?

    • My favorites are Anne Rice, Kresley Cole, Larissa Ione. Anne Rice is just a wonderfully eloquent writer - I’d read a dissertation on the genomics of fruit flies if she wrote it. The others have kind of influenced my decision to write about demons. Love Kresley Cole.

  9. What made you decide to write in this genre? And how has it impacted your life?

    • I love dark and creepy - always have. Writing about these big, dangerous alpha males who have a soft, vulnerable side is so incredibly addicting.

Writing in this genre has allowed me to explore a dark and more creative side of myself. I have worked so long in logic and numbers and this just sort of allows me to let go - to let my imagination run wild.

  10. What kind of music do you listen to while writing, or do you like it quiet?

  11. Do you have a set number of books you are going to write for this series or are you leaving it open to see where the series takes you?

  12. You must have known I’d show up if I was still around this evening, right?

So, my question to you is: If you ever wrote a contemporary novel, would it be full of heat, full of angst, full of mush, or maybe a healthy combination of both????

Oh, and are you about tomorrow if I email an idea that popped into my head this morning???? My stupid head is driving me nuts at the moment (I swear I’m suffering with a form a ADD, LOL).

    • J!!! So good to see you! :)

Oh boy … here’s the thing. I have a feeling that if I ever attempted a contemporary, it’d probably be the darkest contemporary (non-paranormal) story that ever existed. LOL A lot of heat, I’d imagine.

And yes! Definitely email me tomorrow! I love brainstorming ideas with you!

  13. I loved your cover model contest for Soul Resurrected. Julian was definitely my favorite. It was very interesting to learn a little about each model and to see some of their work. I don’t have any model in mind for Gavin, but I would really enjoy participating in another selection contest.

    • I hope you do, Bonnie! I love having you pick the guy for the cover! All my readers who subscribe to my newsletter will A) not be spammed and B) will get some exclusive sneaky peeks of these guys. ;)

  14. I think it’s awesome that you let us choose the cover. Thanks for letting us be apart of the process.

  15. ^^ on a side note and pure curiosity, can you tell us here present what teh scavenger mystery prize will be or the secret must be kept until the announce of teh winner? ( can we at least hope for a print copy of soul avenged?)

  16. You just spoke about a possible novella….; will it be available in digital only or digital and print or added as bonus in a futur books? free on your blog or for a small price and even more important: would it be some bonus ( like the past of a characters, the point of view of another character on a scene already in teh book etc) so something that can be read and give us more enjoyement for the main story but that we wouldn’t be missing if we can’t get it.
or the novella could insert some new capital element and thus should not be missed in any case?

    • Yep! The novella will be somewhat of a prequel. As much as I wanted to pack in more about Logan’s time in Obsidius, I just couldn’t fit it in to Soul Resurrected. The book was already 500+pages and I didn’t want the back story to slow the pace of the actual story taking place. So this will feature Gavin and Logan.

  17. Where would you like this series to go? Also, I know only the second book is out, but do you have other stories in this world or another that you would like to write?

    • Oh man … the possibilities are endless!! Not only do we have the different species secretly living within the human realm (lycans, nephilim, demons, etc) but there’s the Orcosian world with all its many supes that could make for many different storylines.

I’ll leave it up to my readers. If you keep enjoying the stories, I’ll keep writing them ;)

  18. I’ll ask you all a question …

what is it that you love about reading paranormal?

    • I’ve been fascinated with paranormal stuff since I was a little kid. For some reason paranormal books appeal to me even though I have a very scientific thinking brain (BS in chemistry). Paranormal appeases my very over active imagination. I love to get lost in the fantasy of it all.

    • Why i love reading about paranormal?

i guess it’s because i love how it show, something using extreme, more about the human nature and at the same time still often have a HEA…. it surprised how you can transpose racist or other tragedy using some kind of supe and get a real reaction, make people see how awful it’s etc while using real tangible example don’t have teh same impact

also for paranormal romance…. it shows that despite huge obstacle, love triumph so if they can find love after such horrible events etc then we definitively have even more hope to find our own soulmate

  19. What are your favorite paranormal movies or tv series?

    • Interview with the Vampire, Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Gary Oldman), Underworld, The Crow, True Blood, An American Werewolf in London, The Queen of the Damned. I will watch just about anything that has some paranormal.

  20. Is there any chance that your book Soul Enslaved (Sons of Wrath #3) will be released earlier than you had earlier anticipated? I’m so excited for the next book in the series to be released!!

    • Haha! Thanks Brenda! So glad you enjoy the books. Hmmmm … :) I will say that the ideas for Soul Enslaved are coming to me easier than they did Soul Resurrected! I’m very excited for Gavin’s story and if there’s any chance that I can get this baby into your hands sooner, I’m definitely going to shoot for that!

      • Thanks Kerri… also one more question. lol Are you going to have another cover model contest to vote on like you did for Soul Resurrected. That was a BLAST!! And yes, the model I voted on won!!! :D <3

        • Yes! That was such a fun experience for me and I loved that my readers played a part in creating the book. So I’ll definitely have another contest where you vote from a pool of sexy candidates ;) David Wagner, the photographer and designer, has been sending me some drool-worthy picks.

  21. Hi!!!

So at the same time that they seem totally awesome, your books seem totally dark. What is it that attracts you to writing in that tone? (Your cover for HALOS is, like, my favorite thing ever, by the way!)

    • Hi Lauren!! Thank you, I love that cover too :) There is a certain comfort I feel in writing dark characters for some reason. They feel ‘home’ to me. I’m somewhat of a quiet and shy person - a complete opposite to my husband, lol. But I didn’t grow up in a dark and disturbing existence at all. My home life was pretty normal! I think I just empathize with these characters.

  22. I’m new to your series but I hope to find the first book in my local library. I’d love to win the gift card though and just buy the 2 books.

  23. Did you feel compelled to study real-life murder cases to get into Logan’s head?

    • Logan’s character was difficult at times. As I’ve mentioned, I didn’t grow up in a dungeon or anything, so I had to ease myself into this character’s anger. Once I had his back story fleshed out though, his dark nature just sort of made sense. So no, I didn’t study any murder cases. I just sort of threw myself in his position and tried to understand his detachment.

  24. I don’t really have a favorite cover model…especially as an m/m reader, I see a lot of the same guys over and over (even in the same Photoshopped pose!), and it kind of annoys me after a while. Francis Cura is an attractive guy, but I see him so often (with the same expression on his face) that he’s starting to wear on me. I’m veering toward drawn covers lately, or even non-representational covers…

    • Yes, I agree. My cover designer has recommended a few candidates for the contest and I’m pretty sure they’ve not done any cover work yet. I’m very much looking forward to finding the face for Gavin’s book.

  25. Shucks, I missed the party, I think. How dare real life interfere with my book life? :D
I can’t wait to read more about the Sons of Wrath, Keri I’ve totally enjoyed these first two! <3 Merry Christmas!

  26. Any idea about when the next cover model contest will be held ( approximately of course)

  27. ( for me it’s already night since it’s 22h36 but i didn’t want to miss it^^)

what did you think of how people responded to the blog tour ( attendance etc) and number of participants in teh scavenger hunt ( until now). were you expecting such a answer? surprised?satisfied?

    • I’m honestly humbled by the participation and the interest in my books. I truly appreciate each and every reader and thank you for taking the time to follow the tour and chat with me <3

      • i’m glad you had a good answer, i was worried sometimes when i saw a few ( or only teh same) commenters^^ and Amber was so happy to discover your book finally ( i was sure she would love them) and now she won so she is on a cloud

        • I was always happy to see your comments :) The best part of writing books is having readers who enjoy them.

          • I enjoyed following the tour, only one stop i couldn’t comment because of teh system used, for my favourites authors i try to fight my shyness because i learned it was important for them ( at first i didn’t think it could make a difference^^;;)

  28. I’m going to love this since tortured heroes are my favorite ;). You said this was very difficult for you to write but when you’re reading do you love the tortured hero?

  29. What was the last book you read?

  30. oh now that i think of it you recommended me to read Kresley cole and no i still haven’t started ( though i received a book by him but not teh first one in teh series ( far from it) so that oen will need to wait.

Which of his series/books would you recommend me to start with?

  31. Hi,

do you ever have trouble choosing titles?

    • Unless the title makes total sense, like Soul Enslaved, I often wait until after the book is written to decide on a title. It takes a bit of getting to know the characters, their story and what ‘represents’ their journey.

  32. Which countries would you like to visit?

    • I have a certain writer bud in the UK that I’d LOVE to visit someday. I’d also like to visit Italy, France and my SIL’s country of Slovakia. Ireland too!

  33. hi Keri, do you listen to music when writing?

  34. How old were you when you wrote your first story? What genre was it?

    • Well I wrote a lot of short stories and poetry growing up. The one that comes to mind was actually a sci-fi with aliens! I wrote that back in 6th grade.

  35. oki last question for me before i litteraly drop into my bed^^…. is there an author with who you would like to do an anthology if it not done or in project yet

    • I would actually LOVE to do an anthology with J.A. Belfield. She’s a brilliant writer and I love bouncing ideas around with her :)

      • thank you a lot for your time and all these answers, i really appreciate both the tour and hunt and even more our moment here

happy holidays, Merry christmas in advance^^ and i wish you a lot of continued success in teh futur

  36. Do you keep a journal to write down your dreams to incorporate in your stories? :)

    • Yes!! I actually had a nightmare the other night and the very first thing I scrambled for was my pen to write it down! If it leaves me shaking, sweating and panting - it’s probably good for the story.

  37. How is it I keep missing these awesome sounding series?!?! Added to the ever growing TBR :) I don’t think I have seen this question yet, so are you a planner or more of a go with where your muse tells you- or somewhere in between?

    • Unless you count Fabio (whom I love for all the wrong reasons) I do not have a favorite cover model. I do think it is a fantastic way for you to engage with your fans though (Darynda Jones did something similar for all us little grimlettes & it was a blast.) I will have to catch up fast so I can weigh in on Gavin.

    • Haha! Oh man, if you could see the chaos going on inside my head, you’d probably wonder how the hell I get from point A to B. I can’t plan it out, much as I’d love to. It ends up boxing me in to a story that is very likely to change. I find the writing comes easy when I immerse myself into the story - as if I’m standing right there beside these guys, watching it unravel.

  38. Have you considered writing a book for Xander?

  39. I guess he is such a mystery to me that I am curious to learn more about his past and what led to him becoming one of the fallen =) All your characters are fascinating to me!

  40. I haven’t had a chance to read any of your books yet Keri, do you recommend starting at the beginning or can they be read as stand alone stories? I usually prefer to start at the beginning, but I just wondered if it’s that kind of series where you really need to do that or you miss important information.

    • Hi Barbara! I’d definitely recommend starting with Soul Avenged. Book 1 is where I introduce the brothers and their relationship with Ayden. Soul Resurrected picks up right where Soul Avenged ends.

Hope you enjoy the read! :)

  41. I think it’s pretty cool that your readers get to choose the cover for his book. For a favorite cover model, I like Paul Marron. I haven’t read the books yet, so I can’t choose a model or actor for Gavin.

    • If you decide to give them a read, be sure to stop in a vote! I typically narrow the candidates down to the guys I think best represent the character (though I’m open for suggestions) and then readers vote on the finalists. Its a lot of fun! :)

  42. Hi Keri! I would like to know how much (if any) research you put into naming your characters? Do you take into account name meanings, birthplaces and times of the characters, or just think about what you like and think fits them?

    • Hi Bethany!
It actually depends on the character. For some, it might just be that I like how the name fits the personality. For others, it might be the meaning behind the name. In the book, the demon brothers actually have demonic names but try to keep with the times and stay below the human radar by taking some trendy names.

  43. Hi Keri

What is your favorite holiday and why?

  44. What new books (other than your own) or movies coming out in 2014 are you looking forward to?

    • For movies, I really wanna see Divergent, I think there’s a second ’300′ movie coming out and How to Train Your Dragon 2 (I loved the first one).

Honestly? For books, I REALLY need to catch up on my TBR pile! I just started a new series (EIT by Karina Halle) and I’d love to get through all of the books! I also want to start Kresley Cole’s Game Makers series (those are short reads though).

  45. Which do you prefer, weather wise, hot or cold (summer or winter).
Hehe! I just don’t do winter because I want to hibernate when its cold.

    • Same here. What I love about the warmer weather is, I can take my laptop outside and write. I’ve already had days when my hands were so cold I couldn’t write a thing! I’d love to live by the ocean too - North Carolina :)

  46. What do you have coming out in the upcoming year?

    • Hi Janie!
I have the second Cover Model Contest sometime in February/March where readers will get to choose the cover model for book 3. I also have book 3, Soul Enslaved, slated for publication in late spring/early summer. I’d love to have a novella for the series out soon after that.

  47. what do you think about me allowing readers to choose the cover for his book?
—> Actually I think that is a great way to get the readers and fans involved. It would be neat to see more authors do the same thing.

And do you have a favorite male cover model?
    —> Not really

  48. Keri, Will your books be on Audible anytime soon? If so are you going to release both book or wait until Gavin’s story and release all three at the same time? I’m a huge fan of Audible and I’d love to listen to your books on Audible. I know that your stories would come to life with the right narrator.

    • Hi Angela! Yep the books are still going to be available on Audible. I’m starting with Soul Avenged just to see how it sounds (never had an audible book produced), though I have no doubt the producer is fantastic! I’d love to have the whole series available on Audible. He’s sent me clips and the chapters will be uploaded over the next few weeks for me to have a listen :) I’m very excited! He does a wonderful General Wade and Gavin!

  49. Who are your favorite authors and how, if at all, did they influence your writing? I live in a suburb of Detroit and am very interested in reading this series! Thank you so much for the giveaway!!

    • Hello neighbor! My favorite authors are Anne Rice and Kresley Cole. Rice has such a poetic style of writing and I’ve even read some of her non-paranormal works. And Cole is awesome - she makes demons sexy and is part of the reason I chose to write about these supes. She’s a master of sexual tension too!

  50. What made you decide to write paranormal?

    • Well, first I love dark characters and have always been intrigued by them - vampires, werewolves, demons and fallen angels. I also love world-building. Immersing myself in this place with rules that I set and species that I create makes for a pretty exciting morning!

  51. What is your personal favorite paranormal being ?Also I saw you said if you could flash anywhere it would be to the NC shores have you ever been ?If so which beach is your fave ?As an NC native who spent many summers along the coast the southern beaches are my fave.Thank you for sharing with us .

    • Well, I love writing about demons, but I think I’ve always had a greater love for werewolves. It’s the wild, dangerous, beastliness about them. I loved watching horror movies that’d come on our local TV station when I was a teenager - The Howling, An American Werewolf in London. I was fascinated by these creatures.

  52. You mentioned you might write a horror novel. What topics appeal to you when you think of writing within the horror genre?

    • Haha! Well, not to get on a zombie craze because ya know I’d probably start from scratch and design my own brand of undead, but I have always wanted to write something along the lines of Resident Evil. I have a science background and LOVE to make up diseases. You will get a small taste of this in Soul Resurrected and Soul Enslaved (couldn’t help myself). Part of SE will be set in the old abandoned Northville Psychiatric Hospital. I grew up hearing stories of kids that would break into the underground tunnel system - very creepy. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFTKYLQdGi0

  53. How books will be in the Sons of Wrath series? How many books in the series will be released in 2014?

    • There will be at least 1 book for each brother in the series with an enormous overarching story that threads through each book. I also have a couple of novellas planned too. For 2014, I’m planning to publish Soul Enslaved and a novella. I’ll try to get book 4 out as fast as possible soon after that.

  54. What has influence you to become a writer? and at what age did you get influenced?

    • I have always been a storyteller - from a very early age I was freaking out my siblings with scary bedtime stories that I’d make up. It wasn’t until high school though that I really got into writing down some of my stories, and I credit my Creative Writing teacher for encouraging my madness. :)

  55. I have not voted yet but think it is cool that you let your readers vote for the cover model.

    • Thanks Stacey! If you’d like to sign up for my newsletter, you’ll be notified of the next contest! No worries, I do not spam subscribers. You’ll get some exclusive sneak peeks for signing up. http://eepurl.com/HJPHH I’d love to have you come vote on the next cover!

  56. Keri, I only recently stumbled across your books, but they have been put very high my mount TBR. I can’t wait! So my question is I know you are working on this series and have it rolling around in your mind, but have you had any inklings of other possible futures series?

    • I will forever have stories swirling around in my head. I’ve had to ignore a good number of storylines so that I can remain focused on the SoW. But I definitely take my notes ;)

  57. Thank you all so much for stopping in to chat! ❤❤ I’ll continue to check back for additional questions. I love that you’re enjoying the books! As long as you read them, I’ll keep writing them ;) Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

  58. Jan van Es (@Jan_van_Es)

New to your books, I have the first one on my Amazon Kindle app on my phone but I’ve got so many on my To Read list right now, I’ll definitely come to yours.

I don’t know if the question has already been asked, but how did you come up with the idea to write Soul Avenged? Did it come to you in a dream or in another way?

    • Hi Jan!
I’d been wanting to write a dark and gothic story set in Detroit for a long time. My female character, Ayden, actually came to mind on a long car ride to my nephew’s basketball game. I jotted notes the whole ride there and back. Once I had her fleshed out, the Sons started making appearances one by one. My sister is a photographer and while I was going through her photos of abandoned buildings in Detroit, the ideas just kept snowballing in my head until I realized I had an entire series.

  59. What was your favorite childhood book?

  60. I haven’t voted on your covers before, but I think it’s a cool idea and it makes sure that the book gets the cover the readers will like the most.
I don’t really have favorite book cover model. As long as they match the characters’ appearance, I don’t pay a lot of special attention to them:)

  61. Hi Keri, where is your preferred place to write? Home or somewhere else, like a coffeeshop?

    • Definitely not a coffee shop, though the coffee part is a must. I don’t know about other writers, but I need to be somewhere warm and without distraction. I’ve always written in the car with the heat blasting during lunch breaks or whenever I get a couple minutes. Some of my favorite scenes have been written in parking lots. Lol

  62. What is the most enjoyable part of writing in this genre and what is the hardest part?

    • I think the most enjoyable part is that I get to let my imagination run free. I make up rules, worlds, species. Its fun and I get to explore the much darker side of my writing.

I’d say the hardest part is that its not as widely read as other romance genres, particularly since my books tend to be dark and violent, so promoting the books can be challenging at times.

I do adore my readers though <3

  63. What genre/s do you prefer to read? Also, would you consider writing in another genre?
Thank you so much for sharing!

    • I actually prefer to read paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Yep, I’d love to write horror or a contemporary someday.

      Thanks for stopping in, Tina!

  64. I love the idea that you let your readers vote on the cover! I don’t have a favorite male model. I am not really that familiar with them. :)

  65. HI, Keri. Welcome to BBB!

Do you ever attend any fan conventions?
