The Mummy by Anne Rice

The Vampire Chronicle Convos: Other Works by Anne Rice

The Mummy or Ramses the Damned by Anne RiceHello, dear readers.

Can you believe that Prince Lestat is almost here? I am obviously very excited, and this time I thought we could talk about some of Anne’s other works. If you want to see what else we have covered so far, please check out the other convos. You can go back and read parts one, two, three, four, and five, six and seven. Do not forget to come back next week, as we will be celebrating the release of Prince Lestat and having a fun Halloween giveaway.

I want to start off today’s chat by mentioning which other books of Anne’s that I really love. I will say I read The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy (probably at way too young of an age) and that sparked my curiosity for erotica. It also sparked my curiosity for alternate ways of telling fairy tales.

One of the other books Of Anne’s I loved was The Mummy. Ancient Egypt has been a passion of mine since grade school and I loved the story of Ramses. In fact, I would love a sequel to this story.

What are some other books of Anne’s that you like? She has a fantastic library to choose from. Are there any other of her books you would like to see on the big screen? I am very, very curious about the news that The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy is being adapted for television-I am also not sure how that will be possible.

Let me hear your thoughts on this week’s topics.

About KristinD

Kristin is loving wife and doggie mom with a serious book addiction. When she is not in the kitchen whipping up a tasty confection (or cocktail) she can usually be found on the couch with her nose in a book. And she really did not hear what her husband just said to her, never mind that she responded… he should know better, she was reading. Her favorite books to read feature vampires, fae, & Gods of any pantheon (oh my!) but she has been known to pick up some pretty heavy philosophical tomes, funny memoirs, and scientific gobblygook. She also has a soft spot in her heart for good high fantasy. She fell in love with Anne Rice at far to young of an age and still has not found her way to NOLA! Kristin also spends time as a foster mom for a herding breed dog rescue in Illinois, indulging her husbands’ “silly” hobby of import/vintage video gaming, and spending as much time as she can with various members of her ridiculously large family. Somehow she manages to work full time in insurance sales but would much rather be having a kitchen dance party.

  1. I bought her witch series.. Was not aware of the Mummy book.. but, it does sound REALLY good! :)

  2. I do need to read the Sleeping Beauty trilogy…I held off for years because I didn’t think I’d want to read BDSM, and even though I usually prefer femdom or m/m BDSM scenarios now, I know it’s influential.

    • You might like it Trix…there is a little bit of everything m/m and femdom included (if I remember correctly). It is definitely still the gold standard for me and one of the reasons I just did not get the hype about 50 Shades. I am almost scared to suggest it to friends that reallly liked 50…it is a completely different experience.

  3. I am very excited about Prince Lestat too! Anne Rice’s Wolf Gift Chronicles is a more recent series that I have also enjoyed.

    • For whatever reason (ok- the reason being I don’t really like shifter stories, with few exceptions) I have yet to read The Wolf Gift Chronicles. Is there anything in particular that stands out for you about them?

      • I enjoyed Anne Rice’s creative spin on the classic werewolf legend. The Gothic atmosphere of the book is fantastic. It is primarily set in an old house with a lot of history on the Northern California coast. San Francisco, one of my favorite cities, is also an important location in the series. The main character, Reuben Golding, is an intriguing young man who suddenly develops werewolf powers after being attacked in the house. Reuben must learn how to live with what he has become and struggles with good vs evil.

  4. Wait, wait, what? What channel is it for? I’ve never heard of Televisa.

  5. Televisa USA is actually the production company. Same company that does Devious Maids. I have no idea what channel they are shopping it to, but I just cannot see how it would work on anything other than HBO or Showtime.

I also read an article that said she was working on a 4th installment.

  6. I too need to read the Sleeping Beauty trilogy

  7. Man, I don’t even remember how I came across the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. I think I read somewhere that if you like retelling of tales that was one of the best for adults. Little did I know what they meant by the “adults” thing. It was different for me to say the least!
