Once Upon a Time, Sunday 8:00 EST, ABC
Watchers, I have conflicting feelings as I write this column, as I think the last two episodes were first a really high point (the giant story) and a low point (Ruby/Red’s story). The latter makes me very disappointed, as the initial Ruby/Red story from last season remains one of my favorites. In this last episode, it wasn’t the story itself that I felt was weak, but parts of the execution were poor, I thought. Some of the Storybrooke scenes I thought were a tad melodramatic. What did you think? I did find the depiction of the bond between Red and Snow very touching and heartfelt, however.
As I said, the previous episode, when we learned about Henry’s father and Emma’s past, I found really interesting and very intricately constructed, with the scenes moving seamlessly between the past and the present, and between worlds. When do you think we will see Neal again?
We also discovered that Henry and Aurora have been having the same nightmare, and at the end of the last week’s episode Henry actually speaks to Aurora in the dream, via the amulet that Gold/Rumpelstiltskin gave him. It appears that this item and the abilities it gives Henry will play a role in next week’s show.
How do you feel about the last two episodes?
*The show does not air next week but returns on 11/25.
Grimm, Friday 10:00 EST, NBC
The last two weeks have given us a Grimm-wannabe who ended up being Wesen, and the deepening awkward attraction between Renard and Juliet. And that final scene of the last episode, when the two go to see Monroe for their “cure” and he catches them kissing — yikes. Poor Monroe — he will feel terrible keeping this from Nick, but do you think he will do so?
We know that Adalind is up to no good (as usual), though what her endgame is has not been made apparent. The same goes for Nick’s mom, whom we have not seen for several episodes.
Do you have guesses about what either of them is planning?
One of my favorite lines: “The next time we hire an intern I’m gonna suggest we do a better psych eval” (Sgt. Wu).
Was anyone else surprised to see Captain Renard smiling? I don’t think we have ever seen that before.
What do you think of the show right now?
The season is halfway over, due to starting a bit early, and this coming week’s episode (11/16) will be the last one until sometime in the new year. I hope a few questions are answered before the break.
The Vampire Diaries, Thursday 8:00 EST, The CW
The vampire hunter has come and gone, leaving some questions unanswered and some new problematic situations. At the end of the episode, we see a tattoo show up on Jeremy. I find this storyline very intriguing, about The Five, and I imagine we will only learn bits and pieces as the season progresses.
Watching Elena attempt to come to terms with her new state of being has been pretty interesting. She has normal reactions to a traumatic change, giving a feeling of believability to the fantasy of that change. Do you agree?
This question that Damon asks Stefan near the end of the last episode is worth discussing: “Why do you want to cure her? Because she’s not cut out to be a vampire, or you can’t love her if she is one?” Which do you think it is, or is it perhaps a bit of both?
Some favorite lines:
“Is that where you’ve been all morning, out buying bossy pants?” (Damon to Stefan)
“I don’t do teen drama” (Hayley to Caroline). This line is particularly amusing since Phoebe Tonkin (the actress playing Hayley) starred in “The Secret Circle.”
Are you enjoying the show this season? What are some of your favorite storylines?
Watchers, I am still trying to catch up on Supernatural, Fringe and Haven. We’ll see what next week brings…
Happy viewing!
Bitten by Books
Don’t watch Grimm,
Waay behind on VD,
however…. I love OUAT
I think they did a great job with the story of Emma. I was a little worried how it would turn out,but it was sweet and I have hope of a happy ever after with her. Although I thought she was falling for Hook a bit.
Rubys story was OK. Didn’t bowl me over. I love that she is in control.
Loved the giant tale on OUAT but haven’t seen Ruby’s story yet.
Still have the last two episodes of Grimm to watch also. I’ve kinda been saving them for Thanksgiving, when I can pile up and watch till I puke.
What about 666? Anybody watching this. It took me awhile to get into it but I love the flashbacks to the 20′s and the past killings in the Drake.
Oh, man watched Ruby/Red’s episode last night and it was pretty sad. But on the up side I’m glad they finally give us a peep at Henry’s Dad though not real sure how I feel about August at this point.
Poor Monroe indeed! That would be a difficult dilhemma to be placed in; especially the friendship he made with Juliet through Nick. And keeping this from Nick may strain the friendship he formed with the Grimm.
I have a feeling that he is going to suggest Juliet tell Nick. He seems the goodie do-gooder type. LOL! But I hope whatever is goign on between Juliet and the Captain absolves. I hope this leads for Nick to finally tell Juliet about the the double side of his life.
I haven’t really been watching Once Upon a Time. I did watch last Sunday’s because I was waiting for the Walking Dead.. Rawr seeing Daryl holding an infant. I about awwed when he took the baby from Carl like a pro, holding, cradling and feeding her! I could hear every female out there going “AWWWWWWW!”
I really need to get caught up on The Vampire Diaries episodes. I’m curious as to what the tattoo means and how it will affect the characters, if it does.
I’m going to duck while I say this, but… I am really really far behind on these shows. Like way behind. I really want to catch up, but it seems at this time of the year I am just way too busy for much tv watching. I need to call in sick to work and just catch up on everything. What do you think, Sound like a good idea?
Once Upon A Time
I really want to know what August showed Henry’s father that he automatically believed and agreed to leave. And I wonder whose car they stole?
I have to agree about the Red/Ruby storyline. I don’t know what it was about it. It felt, slightly shoved in and rushed.
I get the stuff about the melodrama in Storybrooke. The entire town just all of a sudden picks up torches roaming the town for Ruby? ANd at that they were follwing a former King that they knew was evil. But I suppose they were trying to show how quickly they would revert to their old selves.
Oh and I would have loved to have seen more from Gus the mouse/Billy. But alas, her turned out to be cannon fodder.
Grimm
I feel like the Juliet/Nick siuation is odd. I get both points of view with one remembering everything and the other nothing. But it seems like neither is really trying to help the situation. Juliet’s not really trying to get to know Nick and Nick’s not really helping her either. But I suppose that’s part of the spell.
And shouldn’t someone tell Hank about Adalind at some point?
As for what she’s up to, I can’t even begin to fathom.
Channel 9 has allowed me to see the last 2 episodes of OUAT. YAY! I am so lost. The last time Igot to see an episode Charming was married to another woman and Emma was Sherrif. I am going to see my Sister for my bday and she has a tv and netflix maybe we can watc them all in order. Othe than being lostI enjoyed both episodes.
I need to catch up with Vampire Diaries, but it stopped airing over here, and I didn’t have the time to see it over the net yet. Please stop spoiling me!:)
I think that because the situation with Renard and Juliette is a magic spell that Monroe will discover that Renard is a (half)royal, but not necessarily a (half)hexen beast. If he determines the cause of the obsession (Renard waking Juliet with a kiss)he may have to bring Nick into it. Either way, he is going to need to consult with someone besides Rosalee. Do they introduce a new character or do they reveal hidden depths from an existing character?
The only one I watch week to week is Vampire diaries and it is really getting interesting with the mysterious tats and the professor. I am also excited about a possible relationship between Eleana and Damon.
As for Grimm, I don’t watch it enough to comment.
I watch Vampire Diaries every week and can’t wait to find out if Claus can find the “cure.” You should watch Arrow
