Screen Bites: Satisfaction: The Finales of Fringe and Once Upon a Time

**Beware spoilers – if you have not yet watched these finales but plan to, you probably don’t want to read any further…

Fringe, Friday 9:00 EST, Fox

The last few episodes of Fringe ranged from an unsettling look at an Observer-ruled 2036, to the bridge between the universes being closed, and finally, to a last-ditch effort on Walter’s part to solve an immediate problem.

As far as the somewhat post-apocalyptic future goes, as soon as I saw that blond agent I thought she may be Olivia and Peter’s child. I’ve always found the Observers creepy, but seeing them in this episode they were way past that. On a side note, did anyone catch that there was a villain named Widmark (a “bad guy” on Lost) in the same episode where Henry Ian Cusick had a role? I got a kick out of that.

We learned that Jones (or, at least at the time we thought it was him) was trying to destroy both universes in order to create a new one. I find it hard to believe that we won’t see any more of the alt-verse, or Lincoln, next season. Was anyone else really sad when they shut down the machine?

In the two-part finale we saw Olivia gain some impressive new abilities, and also found out why she had them. Astrid got shot. Walter shot Olivia to shut down her powers, but of course knew what to do to bring her back. I was so afraid she wasn’t going to remember Peter when she regained consciousness, so was very relieved to learn of the other surprise rather than having that happen. We also found out that “they” are coming, which I assume means the Observers, as depicted in the “future” episode. What do you think?

What were some of your favorite moments from these last few episodes?

Fringe has been renewed for a 13-episode Season 5. What do you think we will see?

Here is a special treat from the Fringe cast:

Once Upon a Time, Sunday 8:00 EST, ABC

I really liked the way the season ended. I had been wondering what next season could possibly hold, and now we have an inkling. It seems that there will be magic in Storybrooke. I do hope we continue to see the “fairy tale” stories, even though the curse was broken.

Question: do you think that Regina knew who Henry’s mother was when she adopted him, or that it was all Mr. Gold’s doing? I am inclined to believe the latter, but I don’t recall that this was ever addressed in the show.

I re-watched part of the first episode to verify that Mary Margaret gave the book to Henry. Someone alluded to that in a recent episode, and I had forgotten that was how he got it. Do we think that August was the one who wrote it?

What did you like about the finale, and what bothered you?

Lost Girl, Monday 10:00 EST, SyFy

As much as I love this show, I haven’t been quite as thrilled with the storyline this season. I think the Bo/Dyson situation needs to be resolved sooner rather than later. I just want someone to get in there and kick the snot out of the Norn – that may be the answer to their problem. I was getting hopeful that things were looking better, and then the woman from Dyson’s past shows up. What do you think or hope will happen? No spoilers from our Canadian friends, please.

Question: why does the Ash have to have a sort of raspy voice? Honestly, I like the Morrigan better, by far.

How do you like the season so far?

Watchers, next week we will discuss the last few episodes and finales of Grimm and Supernatural.

  1. I disagree about Lost Girl. I love her and Lauren together, so I’m looking forward to see what happens next.

    • There is something about Lauren’s character that just doesn’t sit right with me, probably because of her cozying up to Bo because the Ash told her to. My issue is not who they seem to be pairing people up with now, just that they are doing it at all when it seems unlikely that is how things will remain. However, I still love the show and am curious to see where things will go.

  2. I saw just the end part of Lost Girl and I must be shallow because I liked the season. The actors are so good that I think that is one reason that the
show was such a big hit. The story is good also, I have enjoyed seing something that well written on a tv channel. That is the only show I saw but
I’m looking forward to see the last of Grimm. That is another well written
story. I’m so lost on Fringe, I just have not kept up with it. I plan on buying this season if I can find it somewher.
Happy schools out and my grandchildren can come over all the time and enjoy their summer break. Auh to be 9 years old is such a cool age. I enjoyed it with my girls and I’m tickled pink that I get to watch my grandchildren going
    thru it now.

    • Lisa D., I still love Lost Girl, but I find myself a tad annoyed at the “keep them apart even though we know they belong together” device they seem to be employing. I do give the show extra points for how they are doing it, though.

  3. I’ve had Fringe on the fringe of my radar for years. My mom is heavily into this show which was my first indication that Fringe is a show to work. Time famine has prevented me, though. I’ve got to make more time to catch up with Fringe. I might need to blow up my TiVo first to clear the way.

  4. I held on to the last four episodes of Fringe and watched them back to back. Fabulous, simply fabulous.
Am still working on the last couple of episodes of Lost Girl and OUAT as I’ve been tied up with graduation after graduation and weddings. It seems every week there is a college graduation, a shower or a wedding to attend.

  5. Raonaid Luckwell

    * Ducks head * Sort of lost interest in Lost Girl. Not sure what happened.. And for some reason the person they got to play Morrigan screams “all wrong”. The way she’s dressed, behaves does not set well with me.

Watched the finale of Once Upon a Time out of boredom and nothing on. Again the show does not resonate with me. I simply could not get into the premises. I got lost and really hate when that happens

  6. This past month was ridiculously busy and I’m still catching up on everything! I should catch up with Fringe and Lost Girl soon. But I did finally see Once Upon A Time and HOLY CRAP, I loved it!

Considering what we know about Mr. Gold. I’d be sure that he knew who Henry was. I’m still wondering who wrote the book. I on’t know if it’s August or not. He definitely altered it. But the whole book would need to be written by someone who knew all the ins and outs of every story from each character.

Now I want to know when we’ll see Mr. Gold’s son. There’s actually been some thinking that to bring him in to the storyline, he could be Henry’s father.

I can’t wait to see what will happen when the cloud of magic envelops the town. Regardless, I can’t wait for the new season period.

    • Rae, that’s an interesting idea, that Gold’s son is Henry’s father. Kind of creepy, too… :)

I do think that Gold knew who Henry was, but did Regina? That doesn’t seem likely.

As far as the book goes, it may have been August, but perhaps it was also Gold. He definitely has his reasons for wanting the curse to be broken.

  7. I am so vry frustrated. I made a point of making time to watch OUT with my dad but, the signal isn’t strong enough most days. So what I did see is all out of order and I missed the finale. Guess I should have waited for the dvd.
