True Blood, HBO
Watchers, a few weeks ago I stated that I found this season less satisfying and kind of uneven, but I must say that my attitude changed with the last three episodes, though there were a few aspects of those that still disturbed me.
First, up until the very last episode, I wasn’t really convinced of Bill’s big conversion. Where did it come from? Can it be explained by the nest behavior Pam referred to? I must say, though, that it was nice to see Eric as the reasonable one of the two.
The other storyline that bothered me was Terry and his smoke monster/curse situation, especially the way it was resolved. The only scene we see him in after he killed the other guy he seems completely relaxed and happy. Given his tendency toward PTSD, I found it odd that he was not the least bothered by killing the guy. Did anyone else feel this way?
I give the show kudos for the scene between Jessica, Hoyt, and Jason, when Hoyt asked to be glamoured. I think that was the single most emotional moment I have ever seen on True Blood. What do you think?
I was very glad to see the end of Russell. He was bad news all around, and was never going to change. Good riddance to most of the rest of the Authority, also. I actually didn’t mind that story line at all, as it had some interesting parallels to contemporary society. We did learn that the Authority and the US government had an agreement on how to co-exist, and I hope we hear more about that next season.
What are your thoughts on what exactly Bill is now? I don’t think he’ll be the Bill we remember, certainly. Apparently he is now being referred to as “Billith,” which is pretty funny.
A few of my favorite lines from the last few episodes:
“There are two things I try to stay away from: humans who eat a lot of fish and politics” (Pam).
“Dead people, why y’all got to be so cryptic?” (Lafayette)
“Please ask your sister not to look at me like that” (Sookie to Eric).
So, what did you think of this season? What do you expect we have to look forward to next year?
Falling Skies, TNT
Though I watch the show, we haven’t really discussed this one in the column before. I thought this was a great season, with more development between the characters.
The Charleston situation was very interesting, demonstrating the differences between those in hiding and those who wanted to fight so they wouldn’t have to hide. When the new aliens turn up at the end of the finale, we are of course left hanging as to their intent. Any guesses?
And Hal — that does not look good, with the creepy critter in his ear.
I really like the rebel skitter storyline, and I’m guessing that will continue.
How did you like this season?
Grimm, Monday 10:00 EST, NBC
Quite a bit has happened in the last two episodes. When Juliet woke up, she did not remember Nick at all, though she remembered everything else about her life. It seems that her very specific memory loss was due to the concoction the captain drank before he woke her from her coma.
Speaking of which, we finally saw the captain’s Wesen visage, but not for long. Do you think Nick will figure out that the captain is not what he seems?
Finally, Hank learns that he hasn’t been hallucinating — that he has really seen the disturbing things he thought he was imagining. What would be worse — learning the truth, or thinking you were losing it? Hank seems to feel the former, as he tells Nick, “I might be crazy, but now I know I’m not alone.” He doesn’t fully understand what’s going on, but I’m guessing he will soon.
And what is Nick’s mom up to? The last time we saw her, she pretended to leave town and then stole a car.
What have been some of your favorite moments or lines?
Grimm airs on Mondays for two more weeks and then moves back to Fridays.
Happy viewing!

Poor Nicky! He’s been through so much! His mother arriving, Juliet, and now Juliet with NO memories of him at all. But she remembered Monroe! That really had to hurt Nick.
But at least he does not have to hide who he is and what he is. Hank now knows the weirdness that is his partner’s life now. Nick does not have to hedge, lie, or keep things from Hank. Should be interesting when Hank and Monroe meets.
And yes! I too wondered what his mother is up too. All is not what it seems. Though we did learn some about Nick and Hank’s boss. The witch did say he was a bastard prince. Literally. Which opens a floodgate of new questions.
I just want to leave a comment on this season’s ending of Falling Skies. First of all I hope the alliance with the rebel Skitters will continue at least with the humans who want to fight for our planet. Second, they left us hanging about who and where those new aliens stand with the humans. I got the impression that they were enemies of the Overlords that is why that machine pointed to the sky was being built, but are they going to not harm the humans. Lastly I feel Hal has been taken over by the Overlord via that parasite which was planted in him by that ex-girlfriend who is harnessed. Already posted my calendar for the next season.
So glad that Hank is in on what’s really going on. I think it will really contribute to a great storyline.
Okay, so I finally caught up with everything. Well, not True Blood. But that’s going to be a tough one to catch up with. Probably not until after this season is over.
Grimm
I’m so happy for Hank. I think he was one more wesen away from shooting someone!
I thought the scratch was going to erase years, not, Nick in particular. So really it re-worked her memories. Because she remembers events, but changed how they happened. Weird.
There is definitely something going on with his mother. I just can’t fit her into everything else yet.
Falling Skies
I really loved this season, but wish it was a bit longer! Was it just me or did the season for this just zoom by?
When I first heard about Charleston, at first I thought maybe some human had made a deal with the aliens and was using Charleston as a concentration camp, like the one overlord suggested to Tom. But afterwards you could see that wasn’t it.
I loved the rebel skitter storline. I keep wondering what they looked like before they were skitters. It so sucked the way that the red-eyed one was killed, but I’m wondering what he told Ben right before he died.
And I’m thinking the new aliens are enemies of the Overlords. But we have a long time to wait to find out.
Oh and how gross were the tiny little spider-like things that crawled from the inside out of people?! So creepy!
I finally got a good offer from HBO so at least I’m going to see 6 months of
True Blood! I must say I am so jazzed by this happening!! What night does it
come on and what time? I hope I enjoy it as much as her books.
Hank is up on things and I stiil don’t have mama figured out all of the way. That’s why I make a good audience. LOL
