  1. I enjoy Mary Hughes’ quirky characters and daffy sense of humor (which is much needed in the genre)! Katriena Knights’ BLOOD ON THE ICE and Sean Michael’s LOVE IS BLINDNESS are my two favorite vampure books thus far…

  2. J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood are my favourite vamps. Even this far into the series, her world still feels fresh and new and is still expanding.

  3. Nancy Gilliland

It is between Mary Hughes and J. r. Ward for vampires…Hughes for comedy romance and Ward when I want drama.

  4. jr ward, then sharlyn Kenyon and Dakota cassity

  5. She wasn’t on the list, but Nancy A. Collins wrote the best vampire I have read other than Dracula. Sonja Blue is the greatest fictional vampire to come out of the last half of the 1900′s and is highly undervalued by fans of the genre.

    • D’oh! I totally forgot Sonja Blue!

    • Thats why I voted other. I have read most of the others on the list and Nancy Collins Sonja Blue is in my opinion far superior to most of them if not all of them. Including Stokers’ Dracula

  6. Raonaid Luckwell

Wasn’t on the list but I had to go with Laura Wright (gotta love Luca!) and what about Lara Adrian’s vampire too. Meow.. and voted for Kresley Cole

  7. I didn’t see one of my faves in the poll… M.L. Brennan’s Generation V series.

  8. No John Ajvide Lindqvist?

  9. Sherrilyn Kenyon

  10. Michelle Palmer

    Jaye Wells

  11. I just voted for Jaye Wells. While I adore Richelle Mead’s writing, I haven’t read the Vampire Academy books, so I didn’t feel like that counted in a weird way. I also loved Kim Harrison’s Hollows series, but my least favorite part was her vampire rules, so I didn’t vote for her either. Maybe I think these polls through a little too much.

  12. My other is Ilona Andrews - I love her take on vampires.

    • I love Ilona Andrews as well… unique ‘vampire’ characterization,… and also, Karen Chance’s Dorina Basarab is quite good, but they’re not in here

  13. Lynsay Sands’s Argeneau vampires are sexy, intelligent and funny! Chloe Neill’s vampires are fabulous, plus she writes about my home town, Chicago! And, Jeaniene Frost’s vampires are just plain HOT!

  14. Cheryl sacripanti

    Chloe Neill

  15. Laurell.K.Hamilton
    Jaye Wells
    Kim Harrison

  16. I admit I hit other. Karen Chance is another great vampire author I absolutely love.

  17. I chose Faith Hunter, Kim Harrison, and Brom Stoker, but I also really like the vampires that Patricia Briggs and Victoria Danann write. They aren’t listed though.

  18. Faith Hunter writes a wonderful series about a Skinwalker in a very unique vampire world

  19. Christine Feehan, Lynsay Sands, and Alexandra Ivy.

  20. Kim Harrison, Yasmine Galenorn, and other for Lara Adrian

  21. My favorite isn’t even an option.
    It’s Nina Bangs

  22. So far, Chloe Neill is on top, I’ve followed Merit’s adventures, understandable… phew… so hard to choose among them… Well, Kim Harrison, Ilona Andrews, Karen Chance… some of my liked vampire authors aren’t here yet it’s still hard to choose…

  23. I was disappointed that Karen Chance (Dorina Basarab) and M.L. Brennan weren’t options, so I picked Other, Faith Hunter, and Jennifer Rardin.

  24. Kimberly Bailey

Yasmine Galnorne so I vote for her all 3 times.. *soon as I can figure out how to vote anyways * is my ufavorite, she has a amazing captivating series that draws you in, and makes you feel as if you are in the family, Melony is a vampire in the Sisters of the moon series, she’s strong and anacing, really grown throughout the series, can’t wait yo read the next book

  25. Bram, because he created the modern day vampire. Calm, cool, handsome, charismatic, the deadly apex predator. Faith, because her vampires are also dangerous, sexy, dark, and all the things Stoker brought from mythology into his books. Faith expanded the universe to include their origins. And Jeaniene? Bones.

  26. J R Ward

  27. Why so few votes for LJ Smith? Not sure there’s ever been a vampire series I’ve read more than her original (not the recent crap) Vampire Diaries series back in the 90s. I was probably 10 or 11 when I first picked it up, and wore out the books so badly they had to be replaced. I can’t watch the TV series since it has nothing to do with the books.

I also voted for Chloe Neill and Jeanine Frost because they rock, but Karen Chance would have been a top choice for me, too. Probably over Frost (sorry Bones!). Mircea is just too much.

    • Kimberly Bailey

I was over the moon when I saw they made a series of the secret circle… till I saw the first episode and they have nothing in common except the basis of a witch and her having to move.. majorly disappointed in the way it played out

  28. I didn’t see her on the list (if she’s there I’ll slap myself!) but had she been I would have voted for Karen Chance.

  29. Claire FitzWilliam

    Ilona Andrews and Gail Carriger

  30. Karen E Taylor and Dan Simmons

  31. Well, I first have to say … ME, because if you don’t really like yourself, that’s pretty sad, right?

I’m more old-school than most; I liked Fred Saberhagen’s Dracula novels (at least the first three or four… like most people doing series it started to wear out after a while); Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s Saint Germain I enjoyed reading several of.

  32. Laurell K Hamilton writes the best.

  33. Can I just vote for the whole list please? I love all of them for different reasons.

  34. Just for the record, you spelled LYNSAY Sands Wrong. She is definitely one of my favorites. And you didn’t even put Kerrelyn Sparks on the list! How thoughtless of you! You did have Christine Feehan and JR Ward, though. And what about Colleen Gleason? There are so many names Missing from the list, and it’s hard to pick just my favorite 3!

  35. My favorite vampire author is Henry James. Not even a crucifix and a boatload of garlic could save Isabel Archer from Gilbert Osmond in A Portrait of a Lady.

  36. Frost and Sands are right up there for me but so is Laura Wright and she’s not on the list.

  37. My two fav vampire authors are Yasmine Galenorn and Laurel K Hamilton!! They each have their own unique style of writing, and are the best out there!

  38. No love for Mary Janice Davidson? Her “Undead” series about Betsy the Vampire Queen is awesome.

  39. Laurell K. Hamilton, Christine Feehan and Charlaine Harris…

  40. My picks made the top three. J. R. Ward, Chloe Neill, Faith Hunter

  41. jacqueline rhoades for her Guardians of the Race series of vampire stories, please ;-)

  42. I was sad that Lara Adrian was not listed as I love her Midnight Breed novels. I also was recently introduced to Tina Folsom and her Scangaurd series are pretty enjoyable. Overall I was not surprised the JR Ward is leading although I was surprised Bram Stoker was so far down the list.

  43. Kellie Hutcherson

Christine Feehan is one of my favorites but I also chose “Other” because I’m really loving Tessa Dawn and her Blood Curse series and D. B. Reynolds’ Vampires in America series.

  44. Molly Harper

  45. Had to vote other to cover Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews and an almost forgotten St. Germaine series, although I can’t recall the author Yarboro perhaps? honorable mentions to Tayna Huff.

  46. D. B. Reynolds who writes Vampires in America.

  47. dianne duvall — love her immortal guardian series

  48. Faith Hunter! Her vampires are relatable. You know they are predators, but then you see a little bit of their humanity. They each have their own personalities, and they don’t fit the preconceived ideas about vamps.

  49. Bram Stoker and Jim Butcher

  50. Yasmine Galenorn spins a tale I can’t put down! Her books are honestly the best I have read in quite a while. You feel like part of the action, and it draws you in! Thank you Yasmine for your amazing books!! Keep em coming darlin!!

  51. You forgot D. B. Reynolds. She has a terrific Vampires In America series.

  52. Faith Hunter, Kim harrison and jeaniene Frost compose my top 3 i admit i wanted to add chloe Neil but since it was only 3 then as number 4 she could not be in the top

  53. Anne Rice

  54. Since there were so many great authors on this list that I enjoy reading, it was very hard to limit my choices to three. I voted for J.R. Ward, Christine Feehan, and Other (Sherrilyn Kenyon).

  55. My picks were Charlaine Harris, Richelle Mead and Stephenie Meyer.

  56. I can’t vote. It is impossible to pick three. You have most of my favorites listed and they all have their unique style and vampires.

  57. Charlaine Harris
    Stephanie Meyers
    Anne Rice

  58. Bram Stoker, for creating the original Dracula!

  59. I chose Jeanine Frost and Stephenie Meyer.

  60. Not even a mention of Christopher Moore? Pfffhhh…If you’ve not gone there before, get thee there now, or forever regret your choices.

  61. Laurel K. Hamilton
    Sherrilyn Kenyon
    Christine Feehan
    Yasmine Galenorn

  62. Angela Hoagland

Only 3?!? Dang. I have at least 6 on that list that I adore. LOL (Anne Rice, Kim Harrison, Laurrell K Hamilton, Faith Hunter, J R Ward, Chloe Neill) How am I suppose to pick just 3? Oh, and Stephenie Meyer? Jeanine Frost? Charlaine Harris? UGH! Can I just select ALL of them?

  63. Amanda Ashley is the best.

  64. J R Ward

  65. I picked 3 but I am throwing a tantrum like a 5 year old in my mind, simply because I have so many wonderful authors that I read. I don’t have kids so, since books get all of what would have been my “kid time”, you just made me choose favorites out of my children. The others are crying now-I hope you’re proud of yourself!

  66. I voted for Anne Rice. This one was difficult for me – I love several of the authors mentioned. But I remember the first time I read interview with a vampire & I just can’t forget delving into that crazy world as a teenager. Loved it!

  67. Stacey A Smith

    I voted
    1. Christine Feehan
    2. Lindsay Sands
    3. Other= Maggie Shayne

  68. i voted for Alexandra Ivy, Jr ward and Christine Feehan.

  69. I voted for Jeaniene Frost, Lindsay Sands, and Kresley Cole.

  70. Kristy Maynard

    T.m. Nielsen

  71. JR Ward was my 1st taste of Vampire Romance, plus you books just keeping getting better! JR Ward has an absolutely endless & limitless imagination!

  72. Sonia Ferreira

I only know less than a handful of the authors on the list and there’s only one that I can say I really enjoy. My favorite at the moment is D.B. Reynolds, her vampires are fantastic, awesome, the vampire any girl dreams about.

  73. I am going with Jeannine frost and Kresley Cole

  74. P.N. Elrod seems to be missing from the list.

  75. Tamara Riley-wilson

What about Christopher Golden ( Peter Octavian Series) , Barb and J.C. Hendee (The Nobel Dead Series). And Christopher Moore?

  76. Chloe Neill, Sara Humphreys, Lynsay Sands, Kerrelyn Sparks & Dianne Duvall

  77. chloe Neill, j.r. ward, Patricia A. Rasey
