Bitten by Books
I tried to read the first one but couldn’t get past the terrible writing. Also, as I learned more I knew it wasn’t for me. A woman subjecting herself to that is not my style.
I didn’t read the books and doubt I’ll see the movie. I would have if Charlie Hunnam was in it, lol. Just not interested I guess.
Yes, I too haven’t read the books or watched the movie. I probably won’t. Tired of hearing about it, but wanted to see what our readers thought about it.
Just the other day I posted on my facebook how sick I am of hearing 50 Shades of Gray.
Even “IF” (huge if) I was considering (not bloody likely) reading or watching the book, the endless promotion would have killed that consideration. And since I am neither interested in reading the books or watching the movie I am SO over hearing about it.
I even got annoyed when I started my kindle fire and lo and behold “50 Shades of Gray” was the wallpaper of the time. I actually felt an urge to throw my fire. It made me wish there was a way to give myself a permanent wallpaper so I wouldn’t be subject to that…
I’m sick of hearing about this book and now the movie. Don’t plan to read this book or see the movie.
Haven’t read the books or seen the movie and am tired of hearing about it…..
OH my gosh I am SO sick of hearing about it. I bought the first book, and I couldn’t get into it, or pass not even half way through the book. First time in a very long time I would of return the book if I could. Refund for this crap. What a total waste of money, and I will not see the movie.
So if you go back the trailers for the movie, he treats her to all the things that money can buy. She is some girl who is innocence to the how this game is played and oh yea who has had nothing ever..
So he treats her to all these amazing things as a way into getting her to be willing for a bit of S/M. OH joy.. He is all powerful and she falls into the trap of what money buys, including her. If this was real life? The woman will never be able to get away for such a man. Control freaks over-board.
Book is crap, the editor should of been shot, the movie is over-romanticizing what is like to be beaten in the name of love. Can you tell I think its crap? LOL
I’ve avoided the books because, while I’m not a BDSM aficionado per se and am mostly interested in it as a method of showing dynamics between characters, from what I’ve heard they show a very skewed and dangerous portrayal of the practice. I hate the promotion of the disproven cliche that all BDSM practitioners are broken in some way, and from what I’ve heard Christian is a terrible Dom (little aftercare/regard for safewords, etc). They seem like they’d do more harm than good. I might have seen the movie if Charlie Hunnam had stayed involved, but from what I’ve heard the leads have little chemistry.
From everything I’ve gathered, not only is it terribly written, but the male is domineering, manipulative, and emotionally abusive. Many people enjoy BDSM in healthy relationships. 50 Shades glamorizes domestic abuse (that has nothing to do with the sex.)
Reading the books now, and maybe will see the movie if and when it comes my On Demand cable service, and definitely tired of all the talk. I am not into BDSM especially when the female is the submissive one. The main story is about an unexperienced young girl who is experiencing her first reactions to physical attraction to a man (the kind where lust overcomes your sensibillity) and her first crush is a man who is into BDSM. At least when reading the books you can step back and view the scenes from a solo audience viewpoint
Bad writing and the geographic mistakes hilarious.
I will only view the movie when it’s available free at home,
only because I can’t believe their choice of actor…
I’ve heard so much (too much) about 50 Shades that I checked out the reviews on Goodreads. I got the impression that the book and the sequels aren’t worth the time and best to be avoided, and as I don’t usually read BDSM I’m going to pass on these. I don’t plan watching the movie, but I might watch a bit of it if I come across it on TV. I must say for some reason I like the title ’50 Shades of Grey’, although it could describe any kind of book.
I have not read the books, I’ve not seen the movie and I never will, and I am sick of hearing about Fifty Shades of Grey.
I haven’t read the books and I am rather tired of seeing the advertisements.
I didn’t read the books or see the movie and I don’t plan to.
I am not nor ever will be interested in BDSM.
I read the books. They weren’t great but they weren’t awful either and at some point I’ll see the movies
I voted
1. I didn’t read them
2. I am Sick of hearing About 50 shades of grey.
I chose, “I hated the books, I didn’t read them, and I didn’t see the movie and am not interested in watching it.”
I tried to read the first book before I even knew what it was really about. I could’t finish it. I thought it was boring, badly written, and I couldn’t believe the characters. i thought they were fake, dull, two dimensional, and not even vaguely representative of people who could even remotely plausibly exist. I try not to outright pan books, even when I don’t like them, but I just couldn’t stand it. In the TMI department, I’m kinky and feel that Fifty Shades not only misrepresents that lifestyle and culture, but that it glorifies an abusive relationship by (badly) disguising it as kinky. If I had a fourth choice, I would have also picked “I’m sick of hearing about Fifty Shades. If you want good erotica, read Anais Nin, Anne Rice under her pen names, The Story of “O”, or Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (Fanny Hill). Or if you ywant to read about abusive relationships with erotic undertones, but skip the graphic sex, read Phantom of the Opera, Gone With the Wind, or Wuthering Heights.
