The Secret Life of Mrs Claus

Just in Time for Black Friday: Top 5 YA Holiday-Themed Reads

Holiday Princess: A Princess Diaries Book by Meg CabotReaders young and old know books make great holiday gifts, especially when the book itself celebrates the holidays! Here are a few YA books that can be enjoyed while curled up away from the cold.

If you know a girl who loves the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot, she’ll likely enjoy the installment Holiday Princess. Cabot has Princess Mia share her thoughts about how a princess can best get through the rush and bustle of this time of year. Mia’s friends, whom readers will know from earlier books, also join in. The book is a guide to the holidays with information presented on Christmas customs and traditions around the world. Young teens will enjoy the return to Mia’s world, not to mention learning to say Happy New Year in numerous languages! To round out the experience, there are the movies as well, which are available to stream online (DirecTV andAmazon, for example, have both films).

‘Tis the season for romantic chick-lit, which is what you’ll get while reading The Secret Life of Mrs. Claus. Author Carly Alexander serves up three stories about three women in three different cities: Baltimore, San Francisco and Chicago. The common denominator in the stories is the Mrs. Claus suit that each wears when playing the role at a local department store. Interestingly, donning the suit and playing the role seems to have a way of changing each woman’s life.

More romance for readers comes in [amazon_link id=”B000SCHBQ6″ target=”_blank” ]Love on the Lifts[/amazon_link], a novel written by Rachel Hawthorne and published by HarperTeen. When Kate and her best friends decide to spend winter break with Kate’s Aunt Sue, they don’t realize until they get there that the aunt has also invited Kate’s college-age brother and some of his friends. Kate starts by liking one boy but ends up wondering if she’d be better off with another of her brother’s friends. Tangled feelings abound in this fluffy story set near a ski resort.

More romance and a touching story about family can be found in A Second Chance for Christmas by Nashin Sadeer. The story revolves around a widower named Nathan who is struggling with so much grief that he is pushing away all his loved ones, including his young son. But there’s something special about his little boy’s teacher, who seems to understand his grieving heart in ways he doesn’t expect. Can Nathan find his way to happiness again? Readers may find this one to be a heartwarming tearjerker.

Three well-known YA authors bring Christmas magic and romance to the short story collection entitled Let it Snow. John Green, Lauren Myracle and Maureen Johnson team up to offer three interconnected stories set in one small town. A snowstorm on Christmas Eve propels the drama across

the pages, and three very different teens find unexpected happiness. But that’s what you might expect since they all find themselves in a place called Gracetown. These quirky stories combine some humor with the romance, with settings on a train, in a waffle house and at a local Starbucks.

No matter your holiday reading choice, get ready for the season of blankets, fireplaces, a cup of hot cocoa and a good book!
