Welcome to our bi-monthly feature with Jay Scott of Great Scott Audio Productions. Jay will be reading from Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk. Magic to the Bone is book one in the Allie Beckstrom urban fantasy series. Click here to hear Jay’s reading if you can’t see the video displayed above.About Magic to the Bone:
“Using magic means it uses you back, and every spell exacts a price from its user. But some people get out of it by Offloading the cost of magic onto an innocent. Then it’s Allison Beckstrom’s job to identify the spell-caster. Allie would rather live a hand-to-mouth existence than accept the family fortune—and the strings that come with it. But when she finds a boy dying from a magical Offload that has her father’s signature all over it, Allie is thrown back into his world of black magic. And the forces she calls on in her quest for the truth will make her capable of things that some will do anything to control…”

Jay’s glowing words make me curious about this one, and of course I had to smile when he got to the “tank top and makeup” sequence in spite of myself…
Devon Monk is an author I keep meaning to check out, though I haven’t decided on whether to start with this series of with the steampunk series.
This is a series you will want to save for a long week end because once you read the first book you will want to read them all like potato chips. I have been a Devon Monk fan for a long time and you should give her a try.. Also. Loved the audio chapter!
The Allie Beckstrom series sounds very interesting. Loved Jay’s narration, especially the part with Mama Rossitto. I have added this book to my quickly growing TBR list.
I recently started running down copies of this series and plan on a Monk binge shortly
Wow, this book sucked me right in! I can’t wait to read it! I liked the sardonic comments about being poor and low-tech. It’ also rare to find a tale female main character. And the bits about blood magic intrigued me. I’m going to go add it to my wish list now.
I really like his voice for a narrator, and it sounds really good, thank you
Man I read the first couple but seriously need to catch. I need to add them to my tbb list so next time I turn in my books at the UBS I can get these.
Oh, wow! I hadn’t realized that the series had gotten so long! I’m so behind!
Wow, I actually got so caught up in the story as he was reading it, that I actually ordered a copy. I’m so excited, but my budget hates me.
I can’t wait to read this. I’m intrigued about the price of magic in it and agree with what Jay Scott said about how it’s rare for that to be an element in fantasy novels.
Is there a way to subscribe specifically to the Book Bites page? I’m not seeing one?
well well…
I have never been a fan of audio books but every time I listen to one of these it almost converts me… I have finally decided to dip my toe in and give it a try!
