Beneath Traber Skies contains two novellas and a story, all by April Reid. The introduction succinctly presents details about the planet’s history so that no further explanations are needed in the stories, which could bog them down.

In The Sultan’s Revenge, the first novella, kidnapper and princess succumb to their growing attraction and join forces to combat an evil stepmother and treacherous uncle. Ms. Reid does a good job of presenting this old theme in the light of a new world and with a different paranormal ability that saves the day. The other novella, Deadly Desires, is a variation of the traditional werewolf story set on another planet. The joining of the Priestess and the Sultan are beautifully described. The Dragon’s Choice is a sweet love story with the inevitable battle between good and evil. Following rousing battles, these last two stories end rather weakly. Ms Reid’s fairy-dragons are a great addition to all the stories.

Though working with tried-and-true plots, Ms. Reid displays a knack for portraying both honorable and villainous characters and for describing tender, though erotic, love scenes.
