The Enchanted Faerie by Holly Greenfield, Judy Bagshaw, E.J. McKenna, Zara Penney, Heidi Kneale and Lea Schizas
The Enchanted Faerie has the magic to help you find your true love - but it comes at a high cost and possible consequences. These are the stories of six women brave enough to pay the price and face what may come to get their hearts’ desires.
The Securement of Greggie Donald by Zara Penney
2 Tombstones
A handsome lord finds a gypsy in a tree singing of a love she cannot have, and while he wants her for his own, he finds himself helping her try to secure her heart‘s desire - even if it is another man. This story did not have much meat to it and left much to be desired. Granted it is a short in an anthology, it was still rather superficial and lacks the quality as well as the conflict of a good read.
Playing to Win by E.J. McKenna
3 Tombstones
The youngest son of a duke returns home early and finds his family’s home has been turned into a gambling den by a young milkmaid bent on finding her true love. “Playing to Win” is a decent tale; it has all the basic elements required of a story but nothing that really makes it stand out.
As Good As Gold by Heidi Wessman Kneale
4 Tombstones
A gold hunter has a surprise homecoming when a young woman steals some cursed gold from him to pay for a chance at finding love - now if he can just find that woman. This story was definitely one of the better ones in the anthology. It not only met the expectations for a story, but it also had a bit more depth and meaning that gave it more significance.
The Strongest Magic by Judy Bagshaw
2.5 Tombstones
A young woman pledged to marry someone she doesn’t care for gets desperate enough to ask for a gypsy’s help. “The Strongest Magic” has the makings of a great story but it fails in the delivery with an anti-climactic ending.
Night of the Gray Sky by Lea Schizas
3.5 Tombstones
With her mother on the verge of death, Jenilyn Shiaan must follow a gypsy’s orders to pay the fee of 100 gold coins or lose her mother to the gray sky. “Night of the Gray Sky” is another decent story with more conflict and energy but still nothing really there to make it remarkable.
The Beltane Faerie of Fate by Holly Greenfield
4 Tombstones
Shaw has known Calinda all his life. When she is left to be the leader of her clan, she may need his help, she stubbornly refuses. Shaw enlists the aide of a gypsy to maybe, somehow, possibly, show Calinda some reason. This is the other story in the anthology that is definitely more notable and memorable. To put it simply, they chose a good story with which to end the book.
