The First Days follows Katie and Jenni, strangers who met by chance, as they try to survive in a world gone mad. The CDC is saying it is a viral outbreak and that all those infected should go to the closest hospital. However, as the survivors see what happens when the reanimated dead come back, they’ve learned not to believe the news. Katie and Jenni begin to find other survivors when they go in search of Jason, Jenni’s stepson. When they come across a fort in a small town where others have congregated, they join the small group in trying to carve an area out of the new world where they can survive the zombies. They will make new friends and possibly find love in this new and strange world.

I give this book 5 tombstones. When I first started reading paranormal, I did not think that I would enjoy zombie novels, then I was introduced to the world of zombies by the Mark Henry fan club and it was all downhill from there. The First Days is a scary look into what could happen if a zombie outbreak would occur. How would you escape them? Would you be able to spare a loved one if they had been bitten and you knew what they would become? Or would you be one of the unbelievers? Would you believe that modern medicine could save your loved one? These are all questions that the survivors face. And what they thought they knew about zombies? Well, you cannot always believe everything you read or see in the movies. Rhiannon Frater paints a vivid picture of what the world could become if a zombie outbreak were to occur. Jenni and Katie are intriguing characters and I found it fascinating to follow their story. Their choices began to define who they were in this new world. I found myself on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next. The First Days is the first book in the As the World Dies trilogy. I do not know when book 2 is scheduled to release, but I know I am anxious to find out what is going to happen next in the series.
