Moonshine by Moira Rogers

Claire is a coyote shapeshifter whose human ex-boyfriend could not deal with her being stronger than he is. Her stop at a tough bar hooks her up with a stranger named Lars, who is a shapeshifter just like her. Fueled by a few swigs of moonshine and pressured by Lars, Clair sheds her facade and has the hot, pounding sex she has been denying she wants. But Lars wants to know if she can stand the heat without the moonshine and waits for her to make the next move. How long will it take for Claire to accept her true nature? Will she move on or will she return to Lars?

The answer awaits in this erotic short story that delivers lots of sex with no deep plot or characterizations, but enough to keep the story flowing. The Moira Rogers writing team has created a well-matched pair in Clair and Lars with some nice give-and-take plus several hot, hot scenes between the two.

Aww, you only gave this one 3 tombstones. Hopefully it’s still a decent book.

I’m happy you gave the warning about the lack of a real plot, because that is one of the things that is vital to me when reading. Fascinating characters are great, but the plot has to be equal to them. If they are just pawns in a book about sex, that’s not enough for me. so I probably wouldn’t read this one for that reason, but there are several others from this author that I found intriguing, so I will seek them out.

Books that rely a lot on sex aren’t really my type of books. I’d rather have a plot driven book that has some sex just thrown in. It may be interesting…but I think I’d probably just want this book as a last resort more than something to run out to the store for.

I don’t know, sometimes I want a book that drags me in, and sometimes I just want a hot book with a little plot. It truly sounds like this awesome duo has something for every mood!

OH who doesn’t like a few hot hot scenes in a good story, I know I love them. I may have to read about Claire and Lars and find out if she gives in to her wild side or tries to deny it.

Interesting dynamic–Lars first shows the dominance, but then waits for Claire to back it up. Does that give and take hold over into the hot scenes? :)

I think this was my first read of the Moira’s books! Its a quick sizzling read that I found to be perfect for a Friday evening read where I ended up reading MOONSHINE til I was done so I could sleep in the next day! I had to keep reading on Claire and Lars! I liked her strengths in her being so independent! They really were strong together in the emotional and sexual tension. I’m feeling a re-read coming on!

I agree with the other commenters in that erotic books without a good plot to match it’s strong characters isn’t something that I would typically be interested in. I think that sex scenes are great in romances when the plot calls for it, when it’ not sex for sex’s sake. The author sounds amazing, but I don’t think this would be a book that I would enjoy very much.

I haven’t read this one yet, though I really enjoyed the freebie prequel on the Moira Rogers site. http://www.moirarogers.com/?q=node/61 So I’ll have to check this out soon :P If memory serves it was pretty PG-13 so I’m kinda curious how they carried that story into this one, though I’m sure to enjoy it, lol. I was a bit surprised by the mention of lack of strong characterization because I’ve always found their characters engrossing, but I guess I’ll have to read this one and find out for myself
