Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Bryn is by far one of my favorite female heroes. She is a fantastic lead character and manages to be rebellious while still behaving as part of the pack. Bryn is also not a wolf herself, yet she holds a special place in Alpha Callum’s pack. You see, Bryn was attacked by a Rabid werewolf at the age of four. Callum, through powers we come to later know and respect, manages to prevent her death but not her parents’. He had to decide what to do with the four year-old, so he marked her with his claws to claim her as his own and give her a place in his pack.

Elizabeth Bretton does not believe in true love and fairy tale happy endings. Married in her early twenties to a man chosen by her parents, she learned very quickly to make the best of her husband’s chronic infidelity and to keep herself busy playing the perfect socialite and wife, throwing parties and organizing charity events. After his death, she moved back in with her parents to re-evaluate her life. (more…)

Amy Lane is the author of the wonderful Little Goddess series. Her latest novel Truth in the Dark is a type of fairy tale — one with the darkness missing in most child fairy stories, but found everywhere in real life. My heart wept for both the heroes.

Octavia Voss has been known by many names throughout the centuries – Teresa, Hélène, Vivian – but in each incarnation, she is a young, talented opera singer. Touched by Mozart himself, beholden to his memories, she is the world’s last tie to the great composer. For this reason, La Socièta lets her live, even with her many “mistakes”. Accompanied by her loyal assistant, Ugo, Octavia returns to Italy and comes face to face with temptation, death, and the consequences of living by the tooth.

The atmospheric Afterlife begins with a bang as the aptly-named wraith, or soul-eater, Yasmin Stoker chases down and consumes a Revenant, or young vampire. Yasmin hunts unsuspecting young vampires for her soul sustenance, believing that to be her method of protecting humanity from the scourge of blood-suckers. Yasmin’s town of Shoregrave, England earns its renown as a tourist magnet ghost town for good reason – tons of ghosts really do hang around the place. (more…)
