With this Ring by Celeste Bradley

With This Ring (Worthington) by Celeste BradleyElektra Worthington is all too aware that the family fortunes will never be recouped unless she makes a good marriage, but her family’s reputation and lack of funds has led to a serious decline in the list of available suitors. Clever Elektra has researched possible suitors, and has concluded that Lord Aaron Arbogast is the perfect mate. He is heir to the estate of Arbodean, will become an earl, has been out of the country for ten years, and therefore knows nothing of the state the Worthingtons are in. To add to Elektra’s difficulties, she and her brother, Lysander, have been dispatched to a rural inn to wait for their cousin, Miss Bliss Worthington, who is coming to town to share the Season with Elektra.

While waiting for Bliss, Elektra sees a coach arrive, carrying a very ill Lord Aaron, and she puts her plan in motion-–to kidnap Lord Aaron, spend the night with him, and insist he marry her the next morning. However, like so many of Elektra’s plans, it all falls apart when she discovers who Lord Aaron really is.

Lord Aaron Arbogast has been shunned from society for the past ten years, ever since he took the blame for the scandal of a friend, and has only recently returned to England to visit his dying grandfather and make things right with him. When his valet, Hastings, becomes ill, he allows the innkeeper to believe that Hastings is the lord, thinking that he would receive better care. Deciding to leave Hastings behind and head to Arbodean alone, in a blinding rainstorm, Lord Aaron is hit on the head and awakens in a burned-out shell of a building, tied up on a chair, with Miss Elektra Worthington standing nearby.

Elektra is a determined woman whose loyalty to her family is admirable, even though her methods are a bit unorthodox. Lord Aaron is trying desperately to do the right thing, but ends up making a mess of it. Both characters are interesting and fun to read about, and the storyline of With This Ring is engaging. I enjoyed this historical novel and am looking forward to reading more from Celeste Bradley.

About Mary

My name is Mary, and I’m a serious book junkie, with a large personal collection of reading material. I’m fascinated by ghosts, the paranormal, and true crime stories. I love discovering the possibilities in the next world and am curious about the reasons people do what they do in this one. I’ve been reading since the age of 3, and always have a book or two or three going. I’m an elementary school substitute teacher, and I always have a book or two in my “bag of tricks”. My new favorite is “Frog in a Bog”. My husband and daughter do not share my passion for books, and secretly think I’ve gone over the top with my collecting and reading habits, but I firmly believe there are worse habits I could have!
