The Bones of You by Debbie Howells

The Bones of You by Debbie HowellsKate seemingly has it all - a loving husband, a beautiful daughter, a fulfilling career, and an exciting hobby…it was no wonder Rosie was drawn to her. Kate was so unlike Rosie’s own mother Joanna that it was surprising they were friends, but it was to Kate that Jo turned when Rosie was reported missing and later found dead. Kate did her best to be supportive during Jo’s time of need, but as more details of their home life emerged, Kate found herself caught up in the trauma of it all.

Determined to be her own person instead of a carbon copy of her mother, Rosie began branching out, only to be abducted and murdered at eighteen. As Rosie is dying alone in the woods, she has flashbacks of her life that show a very unhappy and tense situation when the face her family presented to the world was very different.

Kate is a strong woman, able to handle anything thrown at her, but the sheer brokenness of Jo and the pain of Rosie’s death is almost too much to bear. I appreciated her supportiveness for Jo and her younger daughter, even after the truth was revealed. There is a great deal of hidden drama woven throughout the story, and it easily captivated me and made me want to know more about Rosie and how she died. I honestly did not expect it when the murderer was revealed. The Bones of You is an interesting story with plenty of excitement and intrigue, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

About Mary

My name is Mary, and I’m a serious book junkie, with a large personal collection of reading material. I’m fascinated by ghosts, the paranormal, and true crime stories. I love discovering the possibilities in the next world and am curious about the reasons people do what they do in this one. I’ve been reading since the age of 3, and always have a book or two or three going. I’m an elementary school substitute teacher, and I always have a book or two in my “bag of tricks”. My new favorite is “Frog in a Bog”. My husband and daughter do not share my passion for books, and secretly think I’ve gone over the top with my collecting and reading habits, but I firmly believe there are worse habits I could have!
