Snow and her Zombie army have ravaged the countryside, and now her numbers are in the thousands. She has made it to the capital city of Platessa ahead of Grouchy and his group of survivors, making their quest to find an answer to stopping her that much more difficult.
The group splits up, some to hunt for a missing loved one, the rest trying to get into the castle to look for that one thing that might overcome Snow. Queen Adara learns her husband has fled and Snow has created a horrifying creature they call the Creeper Queen made up from the bones of her husband’s previous wives-including that if her dead sister. She is heading now towards the birthplace of Queen Adara, and once again the group struggles to find a way to get ahead of her.
Many obstacles are put in the path of Grouchy and his band. We get more backstory to his fellow Dwarf, Dim, and his history with the gypsies. The werewolf Red finds out a little more of her own personal history and her place among the survivors. Queen Adara learns she might actually have feelings.
Rob E. Boley writes an amazing story. He ties in fairy tales and zombie horrors like they were always meant to be together. The characters evolve more each book, but he keeps the one-liners and quirky wit coming. That Malicious Storm has once again sucked me in and left me needing more.
