Stories of the Fey seem to have been around since the beginning of time, coming in all shapes and sizes and the deeds attributed to these beings are just as widely diverse. A Chimerical World: Tales of the Seelie Court contains nineteen stories pertaining to what we have labeled the good fey. We tend to think of the Seelie as goodness and light, but they are just as quick to abduct a human or cause pain and mischief.
“Extra-Ordinary” by B.C. Brown is a charming tale that teaches us that just because in this mortal realm a person might be downtrodden and made fun of, somewhere in the universe they might be hailed as a King.
“Dead Fairy Doormat” by George S. Walker shows us what some cats might bring home instead of birds. Do not leave your poor animals defenseless against the faeries…
“Wormwood” by Alexandra Christian is a punch-in-the gut tale of the old South, about what slaves had to endure and how a faery might help with revenge. *Please be aware that Wormwood contains mature content in regards to consent.
“Sanae’s Garden” by Chantal Boudreau tells us what might happen if a Fae takes a liking to a mortal and a child is born, and what difficulties might happen if something linked to nature gets put in mortal harm.
“Cultivated Hope” by Jordan Phelps shows us what lengths a faery with a conscious will go through to make amends, even if it means losing her job.
“I Knocked Up My Fairy Girlfriend” by Brandon Black is a tale of how faeries might be perceived if they came out of the closet. Would you want your son dating someone only a few inches tall? How would society look upon such unions?
“The Beggar-Knight & the Lady Perilous” by Matthew A. Timmins is the essence of an old fairy tale where a Fae sends a knight on a dangerous journey and all that the poor fellow has to go through before the Fae grant his wish.
“Gnome Games” by Saera Corvin shows us what happens to those missing underwear from the dryer. There is no reasoning with a Gnome, and the only way to win at his game is to get down and dirty.
This anthology contains fantasy, some science fiction, and a touch of horror blending into a great set of stories for everyone. Scott M. Sandridge has picked some talented authors who have given us a peek at their idea of the Seelie Court. These tales are unique and diverse and I will be looking for more work from these amazing writers.
