Kara has returned home to finish out her Senior year at Trinity after spending a year as an exchange student in Australia. She feels that she has changed and matured but finds herself going through a type of reverse culture shock. Even her best friends seem changed and distant. When she left, she told Ryan that they should see other people while she was away but now he is barely speaking to her. Kara is really struggling with the loss of Ryan’s friendship. He was the one person she could talk to about anything. Even more disturbing is that fact that his current girlfriend, Christie, changed her look and seems to look more like Kara than herself.
This is such a vivid and accurate portrayal of teenage angst and the roller coaster of emotions in high school. It is easy to have empathy for Kara, even during those times when she isn’t making the best choices. I was definitely reminded of a time that I am glad to have behind me. It seems there is always that one person in high school that almost doesn’t make it and this story was no exception. There is also some bullying but Kara rises above it with grace and poise. This is about true friendship, love, tough choices, consequences and forgiveness. There were a few uncomfortable moments but I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written book. Busca la luz translated means “look for the light.” Luz, Rebound is a lesson on looking for the light in life and in love.
