When Reece and her two best friends are in a serious car accident, Reece feels herself die. She does not stay dead. Miraculously, she survives and she wishes she had not. Nothing is the same without her two best friends. She hears things and has horrible nightmares. And no one believes her when she talks about the black panther that caused the accident. After all, black panthers do not exactly roam the streets of Los Angeles. Her parents and her psychiatrist decide it is best if she gets a fresh start so she is sent across the country to Saxton Academy in Vermont.
All that Reece wants is to be normal. But Reece is far from normal and the accident has awakened gifts in her that she never knew she possessed. When she meets Carden and Eli, she feels an instant connection, especially to Eli. They are determined to help her accept her gifts and learn how to control them. Someone, however, does not want this to happen and will stop at nothing to prevent her from realizing her magical potential-not even murder.
Hex is the first book in the Saxton Academy series By Mackenzie McGuire, and is a must-read for anyone who is a fan of the paranormal young adult genre. Chock-full of adventure, magic and romance, it will keep you turning the pages to get to the very end. Of course, when you arrive there, you will realize that there are still many unanswered questions and lots of adventures in store for the Saxton Academy gang. That is a good thing.
