Jim Sweitzer is a Navy SEAL, a husband, and a father. When he sees something on an op that he was not supposed to, he is tracked down and killed. In a new government program, with the assistance of a young goatherd who has the ability to reconnect the dead soul with its body, Jim finds himself alive again, but not his own master. In an effort to find out the truth about his death, Jim must work with his
masters, following their agenda and pray that one day he can find out the truth about his wife and son and the reason for his own death.
This is the beginning of a new series set in the time prior to the Reawakening and the prevalence of magic in the world. Mr. Cole has created a wonderful setting to bring us into his world of his previous work, just at an earlier time.
The struggles that Sweitzer faces and fights through are well thought-out and constructed. His characters are well-crafted with struggles that make you feel comfortable with them, empathize with them, and want the best for them.
If you have read Myke Coles’ Shadow Ops series Gemini Cell is a must-read. If you are looking for an action-packed drama this is definitely for you. Characters and situations are a bit too intense for young readers, but worth the read for everyone else.
