Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. ArmentroutPretty and popular Samantha Franco was found wandering barefoot on a deserted rural road by a local police officer. She was disheveled and disoriented, with mud and blood caking her jeans, and she had no memory of anything, including her name. She had disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, and Cassie was still missing. At first, Sam gained a lot of support from her friends and her boyfriend, Del, but as the memory loss continued and Sam became more compassionate and kind, the mean girls she and Cassie had ruled quickly turned on her.

Cassie’s disappearance weighed heavily on Sam, and she began to have flashbacks, seeing Cassie in a red dress, hearing her speak, and it made Sam doubt her sanity. When she started finding cryptic notes that spoke to the situation at hand, she began to believe someone was following her, even crashing her brother’s car thinking that someone was in the back seat. With support from her brother and his friends, Sam begins to feel safe enough to remember, and she is horrified by what she discovers.

I applauded Sam’s transformation from a self-centered mean girl into a caring and compassionate person, but was sorry that it took a major tragedy in order for the change to take place. The mystery of Cassie’s disappearance is neatly woven through the story, and I was kept guessing as to what had really happened to her. Don’t Look Back completely captured my attention-–in fact, I read it in one sitting-–and I was quickly drawn into Sam’s world, and enjoyed every minute of it.

About Mary

My name is Mary, and I’m a serious book junkie, with a large personal collection of reading material. I’m fascinated by ghosts, the paranormal, and true crime stories. I love discovering the possibilities in the next world and am curious about the reasons people do what they do in this one. I’ve been reading since the age of 3, and always have a book or two or three going. I’m an elementary school substitute teacher, and I always have a book or two in my “bag of tricks”. My new favorite is “Frog in a Bog”. My husband and daughter do not share my passion for books, and secretly think I’ve gone over the top with my collecting and reading habits, but I firmly believe there are worse habits I could have!
