Daimon by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Daimon: The Prequel to Half-Blood (Covenant) by Jennifer L. ArmintroutAlexandria is the daughter of a Hematoi mother, a child of the gods, but Alex is not-she is a Half-blood and has one of two futures:indentured servitude to the pure-bloods or become a Sentinel. But something happens to her during Sentinel training that has her mother run from the Covenant for several years until Alex is alone and has no one else to turn to. Desperate and with no other choice, she has to return, but the Daimons on her tail are making it nearly impossible to seek sanctuary with the very people who threatened her young existence.

Jennifer Armentrout is one of the most amazingly complex writers I have ever had the pleasure to read. Daimon, however, is a bit on the lighter side of her usual fare-not in content because it is still dark and a bit gruesome, but the story itself is a faster and more agile read.

This prequel is also young adult friendly, and seems particularly in-tune with teenage minds and the problems they face, especially if you are faster and stronger than your pacifist boyfriend. I wish Daimon had been around when my daughter was reading books, as she would have loved a kick-butt female facing the only and most dangerous avenue she has and certainly the one that scares her the most. This book is quite brilliant.
