MY NAME IS SHERLOCK HOLMES.
IT IS MY BUSINESS TO KNOW WHAT OTHERS DO NOT.
In the dark lurk horrible secrets. Long buried and hidden from prying eyes are the twilight tales of the living and the dead - and those that are neither. The stink of a Paris morgue, the curve of a devil’s footprint, Read More »

Fighting to Survive
The Second Time Around
It has been a long journey to get to this date, November 8, 2011, when the second book in the AS THE WORLD DIES zombie trilogy, Fighting to Survive, finally hits the bookstores. Long ago when I typed out what I thought was a short story and posted it online, I never dreamed it would evolve into a three book series. It never occurred to me that the story about two Texas women, Jenni and Katie, forming a strong friendship as they struggle to survive the zombie apocalypse would end up making my dream of becoming a published author come true.

BBB: Tesseracts Fifteen: A Case of Quite Curious Tales, edited by Julie Czerneda and Susan MacGregor, is the only volume in the long running Tesseracts series that is themed specifically for young adults and the young at heart. These stories are filled with “wonder and astonishment,” say the editors. They are “stories that engage the imagination, inspire dreams, and leave hope in their wake. They will become the classics for a new generation of readers, to be remembered, fondly, for years to come.”

When I was first asked to consider writing a vampire story for young adults, I was horrified. Me? Did the person who asked even READ my stuff? Blood! Guts! Gore! Uh…”friendly” encounters! Not exactly something parents would approve of for their small humans.

You’re walking down a dark alley in the middle of the night. A sexy stranger steps in your path, flashing brilliant white teeth, complete with razor sharp fangs. Your first thought?
A) OMG he’s so hot! We are so hooking up right here and now!
B) So long humanity! The sun is overrated anyway. And garlic bread just gives me bad breath.
C) Holy crap, a monster! I am so out of here!

Character interview with Roan
What is the best part of being a goblin?
There’s a good part to slowly losing my soul and sliding into being a mindless, gold hoarding beast? If there is it would be that I’ve seen things I would never have even dreamed of. However I’ve also seen things I wish I’d never seen. I’ve left my fingerprints all over history, but not all of them were by choice.

The Ancient vampire Saloman has been awakened by the blood of academic Elizabeth Silk. They’ve tried and failed to kill each other. And they’ve fallen in love. Whatever that actually means to an inhuman, immortal blood-drinker who’s existed for millennia.

If a fortuneteller had told me long ago when I first started writing that my path to publication would be a crazy ride through the land of self-publishing before arriving in the hallowed halls of a big New York publishing house, I may have believed her. But if she had told me the story that would land me a three book deal with Tor and garner a starred review from Publishers Weekly was about two women fighting to survive in a world filled with zombies, I would have informed her that she was plain nuts.
