A Challenging Job by Brooks Olbrys

The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob: A Challenging Job by Brooks OlbrysBlue Ocean Bob loves the sea and wants to make it his life’s work to protect it. His guardian is a hummingbird named Xena who is cautious and protective of Bob. When he begins working with a marine biologist on the Island of Roses, he is initially a little overwhelmed by the things he is tasked with, but finds great advice from ocean-dwelling friends.

A Challenging Job is the second book in this series and I am definitely going back to read the first. This beautifully-illustrated short story is perfect for young readers. It is written in lyrical rhyme and provides wonderful lessons about trying new things and believing in yourself.

Xena is like the inner voice of doubt that tries to slow Bob down and turn him away from the challenges that face him. Bob’s dedication to the sea helps him find his inner strength and, with helpful advice, he stays the course, conquers his fear and gets the job done. It is so beautiful, I read it three times. This is a definite keeper and makes a fantastic gift.

About AJ

Blessed by parents who read to her in the womb, AJ learned to read by the age of 3. She now has an entire room dedicated to reading, with shelves of books stacked to the ceiling, in addition to a stack of books in every room. Her obsession with the written word eventually developed into the desire to write her own stories. Someone saw talent in her and she found work as a Writer/Editor. It was pure heaven. Her husband, who rarely read a book, caught the fever and is now engrossed in another series of books. Passing on the tradition of reading to her child in the womb, her daughter now sleeps in a room with stacks of books surrounding her and just won an award for logging the most reading time in a school with over 500 students.
