Wings by J. C. Owens

Two factions of angelic-styled, winged creatures have been battling for supremacy, and, as in every war, individuals become caught up in the battles that seize their peoples. One is Anyar, a beautiful youth who catches the eye of both his garrison commander and a leader of the enemy, Vanyae. The latter, in the process of taking hostages, seizes Anyar for his own uses. As the younger man’s captivity continues, however, he finds that the exotic Vanyae may have the potential to be more than a master to him.

This is a very good dark fantasy piece that does an excellent job of tackling a harder-edged D/S relationship. It is refreshing to find an author who isn’t afraid to tackle this kind of content; I felt like the ending was a bit tentative, given the firm grounding that the book provided for it, but I suspect most readers will enjoy the lighter ending that is provided than some alternative conclusions.

Good read, and I plan to read more of the author’s work based on this novella.
