Isla had lived several lifetimes of pain while under the rule of the evil Deirdre and the vile torture of the strongest of the Highlands clansmen over the centuries. Pinned to a life she never wanted in her vain attempts to save both her sister and her little niece, Isla can only hope for death to finally come to her and accept her into its care. Unfortunately, waking to see the handsome warrior above her, Isla knew two things at once: she could loose herself in this man and she could never be with him because if she still breathed, so did the most hated creature in the Highlands—Deirdre. Tied together through the evil dark magic, Isla could not be killed until Deirdre drew her last and final breath. She had already died over and over of exposure there on the side of the mountain before Hayden saved her and brought her to the one place Deirdre would never look for her. Falling for the tall blond warrior was not a part of the plan. She could not stay away from his call, and he could not stay away either despite both of them knowing the consequences of being together.
Making love, Hayden is surprised to find out she was a virgin and gave of herself freely to him, but even with that connection he could not let on that she meant anything to him, even to himself. She might not have been the druid that slayed his family but she had freely given the choice and become one of the dreaded and heartless Drough, even if it was under duress. Their time together coming to an end, they know that with Deirdre gaining strength, the one thing she needs is a Druid to sacrifice and give her back her body, her full strength, and then she will make them pay. With Isla’s magic hiding them from prying eyes and sending out protection for the Druids in hiding, it gives the warriors hope that they can finally defeat her, but when Isla finds her mind being touched, she knows that there is only one way to help the warriors in their cause: she must leave. Although she knows she will leave her heart with a certain warrior, it is the only way she can protect the people that she now calls her family.
Donna Grant’s Dark Sword warriors are some of the most sought after and claimed fictional lovers in the reading community. (I admit it, my warriors were claimed early and I cannot wait for their books to come to me, even if I change the names in my own mind to put myself in place of their heroines). Hayden and Isla’s story was very emotional and will, no doubt, lead to many more opportunities to find a way to destroy Deirdre once and for all. The dimension that Ms. Grant puts into each character and scene only makes the books more memorable and more captivating. I, for one, cannot put a Dark Sword book down once I pick it up. Untamed Highlander is an amazing adventure full of invigorating excitement, sizzling sensuality, heart-pounding emotion, riotous laughter and pulse-quickening romance. One of my go-to series to make even the worst of days turn around, Untamed Highlander is a definite must read for any fan of paranormal or historical romance because it blends both in a perfect combination.
