Luke Aron is one of the last legendary warriors called Tigers. When a centuries-old curse leads to him being magically bonded to Violet Hylan, the unbeatable fighter learns the true pain of being owned body and soul by a woman he could love. Violet wishes more connected her to Luke than a magical bond and simmering lust. But before they can work out their emotional confusion, they must first survive the powerful witch who would have Luke for her own in her quest to conquer all of Salubria. Betrayal from within the walls of Violet’s home and her suspicious family are only a few of the obstacles in their path to happiness as she searches for the means to tame her wild Tiger.
The thing I really enjoy about To Tame a Tiger was the unique way Violet and Luke’s bond was first formed. Susan really thought outside of the box on this one. All shifters who take the form or the power of an animal must find a mate. This is the same for Luke, except there is a twist: he must form a bond with a sorceress or he will die, and the enchantress does not have to love or care for Luke in the least. Luke is a strong, honorable character who has been cruelly treated by his former enchantress. Luckily for us, the hag is killed; unfortunately, an equally evil sorceress is trying to bond him to her, to grow her own powers. The Fates seem to be trying to make up for all the abuse he has suffered at the hands of these women and send Violet into his life. Violet is a pure, innocent witch with a heart of gold. When Luke approaches her about the bond, she agrees to it to save her own life. But beware: absolute power corrupts absolutely…or does it?
To Tame a Tiger is a fresh read and very entertaining. The scenes play out with delicious secondary characters that make the story pulse and come to life.
