To Kill a Vampire by Julianna Sage

Angelica Gentillini had thought there could be nothing worse than the horror she faced as a young girl, but nothing in her imagination could prepare her for what was to come. Celebrating her promotion for taking another child-killer off the streets, Angelica thought she was in another nightmare when a monster-like man tried to take her from the bar and informed her that his master wanted her dead. Scared and in shock, she is saved by another mysterious man who has plans of his own for her and another who drops from the sky to take care of her attacker. What kind of hallucination is this and whom can she trust when he tells her about the danger she is in?

Erik has to save the woman from the plans Vladimir has for her. Erik has been the savior of many of the humans who needed to survive the blood plague so they can write the book that will bring the vampyre world out in the open and give the humans the means to defeat the demons that will become the scourge of the entire world. His invention for time travel allows him to return to the time just before he himself became one of the vile creatures and his life was forever ripped from him, Erik needs to help right some of the wrongs he himself has committed on the innocent.

With the danger of changing too many current events and destroying the time continuum forever, Erik does everything he can to save Angelica from Vlad’s plans for her with the help of Ian, one he had turned himself, along with some others who have joined their cause. Thrown into a series of unimaginable events, the two grow closer and closer together as they fight to find a way to keep her safe so she will live to write the book, How to Kill a Vampire.

When Angelica is faced with a new threat, Erik makes a decision that will change their relationship forever and in turn breaks not only his connection with Ian but gives Vlad yet another method to break Angelica down. With the time continuum broken, they must rush against the clock to stop the plans and stop the suffering once and for all, but with so much at stake it will take a bigger sacrifice than they ever imagined to win the battle for their lives and their souls.

This book was a very intense, unique and compelling look at the vampyre myth as Ms. Sage wove not only the blending of demon possession into her tale but time travel, as well. I was intrigued with her ideas and really liked how she worked all three into a believable and realistic tale set in the present time.

My one complaint was that I thought it a bit long, and although I did not think there was a lot of superlative writing in their tale, there were times when I felt they would never get any closer to finding a way to defeat their enemy. The characters in this book were perfect, though. Vlad was merciless in his attack on both Angelica and Erik, and his methods only made him an even more vile and deplorable creature.

Erik and Angelica were both strong, determined, sexy, compassionate, and despite being demon-possessed creatures of the night, their emotions were very human and their situation tragically heartbreaking. In fact, I will warn you now, that you will feel their pain and heartbreak, especially in the last forty pages of the book. I bawled my eyes out. Add to this their erotic and arousing chemistry and a twist in the ending that I never saw coming and you have one spectacular read. This book will grip you with its intensity, seduce you with its carnal sexuality and mesmerize you with both the power of its violence and the fervor of its passion.
