The Siege by Joel Arnold

Jared just wants to be a normal child but he suffers from horrible seizures and his father has secret meetings with strangers in the basement, a basement filled with firearms and provisions. Also, there are the bees. Only Jared can see them as they swarm around him before a seizure.

When ATF agents surround the property, Jared does not know who to trust: the agents, his family or maybe the bees.

The Siege” is a well written story that will cause an immediate feeling of unease and puzzlement as well as an instant like or dislike for each character.

I felt an immediate connection and sympathy with Jared. He has a family who loves him but they also seem to have one foot planted firmly in crazy town.

This is a story that is not cut and dried. Each reader will draw their own conclusions as to the meaning of the story and the mysterious qualities of Jared and the swarming bees.
