In Chasing Tail, Julie Cox takes a different approach to telling a shapeshifting story. Instead of the usual one main idea with numerous chapters and characters, it is six separate tales linked together by various characters and situations. There is still one main idea but packaged differently. The reader will read about the shapeshifters dealing with each other, themselves, and their sexual lives. Each tale finds at least two individuals dealing with struggles, dilemmas, and relationships. Julie Cox herself says that each story has something to do with rules. She also incorporates their feelings on their society and how it relates to society as a whole.
