I know every fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters series has read Acheron. It is one of the most emotional romance books that I have ever read. With that said, it is not just a romance. It is a gut-wrenching Greek Tragedy. It is a paranormal romance that will tear you apart and then many, many pages later allow you to pull yourself together. And it is the most pivotal book I have read in this or pretty much any series. You cannot read Acheron without a tear or several rolling down your cheek. You cannot listen to Holter Graham’s voice as he brings this story to life without bawling your eyes out and curling up in a ball trying to keep yourself from feeling Ash’s pain.

There are several narrators in the House of Comarré series, so I’m going to structure this review a bit differently than normal.

Mal and Chrysabelle: A good chunk of their story revolves around their feelings for each other and what that means for the cursed vampire and former comarré, or blood servant. The main mysteries in their lives revolve around the possible identity of Chrysabelle’s brother, the effects of melting down the ring of sorrows and using it to replace Chrysabelle’s signum, and the attempted retrieval of the vampire baby.

Doc and Fi: Fi is, obviously, still not happy with the “benefits” Doc received when he became pride leader. She makes a pretty bold stance to get back what she lost, and I have the feeling the repercussions are going to be severe.

Piper has never known a world where seasons change and blistering heat is not the normal temperature. With the world in a global heat crisis, every day brings new challenges. In addition to the environmental challenges, Piper has major issues with her mother. Saying her mother is overprotective is like saying the sun is hot — smothering might be more accurate. When a customer of her mother’s greenhouse brings Piper a beautiful box for her birthday, the environment and her mother become the least of Piper’s problems.
