Requiem for a Vampire by Larry L. Deibert

Lani Jorgenson had died on the night of her 21st birthday. She awoke the next day only to find herself as the only vampire left in the world. With no one to show her the way, she is forced to fend for herself and learn how live the life of the undead. Who should she blame for what she has become, the man who turned her or God who let creatures like her exist?

After more than a hundred years of her turning, she has grown to get tired of living around humans yet not being a part of them. However, vampires are scared of the grave too, and Lani does not want to give up the life she has even if it means she has to kill to survive.

Then she meets David Forrester, the first human she actually falls in love with, the first human she finds she does not want to and cannot kill. She knows she has to leave and soon. So on their final night together, she finally feeds from him, only to hypnotize him into forgetting all about her and the time they spent together.

When David awakens, exhausted and weak, he finds himself in a place completely unfamiliar to his memory. In fact, he cannot recall much of anything that happened in the last three weeks. Lani’s hypnosis did the trick. Or did it? David kept a journal in his apartment drawer and from there he reads about a beautiful blonde named Lani Jorgenson. And all the memories come flooding back. He remembers what she did to him and how her fangs grew and her eyes turned red. She’s a vampire and she dared to drink his blood and leave. She is a monster and she kills humans for her own survival. He must track her down. Find her. And kill her, hopefully before she kills him.

Requiem For A Vampire has got to be one of the most interesting portrayals of the vampire world. It is definitely different from all other vampire stories out there. There are plenty of twists and turns that each page will keep the reader guessing what will happen next that even the ending has a surprise of its own. Also, Lani’s character is completely magnetic that the reader will become engrossed in the pages of her life and the people she meets. Requiem has certainly made a notable impression in the paranormal genre that Deibert has found himself a new fan of his work. 4.5 tombstones!
