Only Lycans Need Apply by Michele Bardsley

Only Lycans Need Apply (Broken Heart Vampires) by Michle BardsleyMoira Jameson has not had an easy life. Orphaned at a young age, she was raised by her grandfather and followed in his footsteps as an archeologist. After his death, she continues his life’s mission, looking for the temple of Set, the God of Chaos. What she discovers in the deserts of the Sudan one night with her assistant, Dove, is nothing less than miraculous. After a run in with a not very nice vampire and being rescued by a band of good vampires and werewolves (for those who are Broken Heart fans, yes, this would be some of your favorite Broken Heart residents: Patrick, Lorcan, Jessica, Eva, Darius and Drake), Moira places her hand in a hole and her blood acts as a key causing a pyramid to rise out of the sand. Before she can unlock the pyramid, nasty vampire, A.K.A. Karn, returns, and Moira manages to trick him into attempting to open the pyramid himself. The pyramid rejects his blood and sinks back into the sand leaving a cryptic message about returning in seven days and that only the chosen can enter. Karn disappears, and Eva wipes Moira’s and Dova’s memories of the entire evening.

Moira returns to her job at the university that her family founded, convinced that all that she and Dove uncovered was an empty tomb. She has no clue that Drake, one of the hottie werewolves that she can’t remember, is watching over her every move. When Drake is ambushed, Moira and Dove are kidnapped by Karn. Karn knows that Moira’s blood is the secret to the pyramid, and with her, he has everything he needs to take over the world. The residents of Broken Heart are determined to stop him. Moira has never really fit in with the regular world and she is about to find out why. Along the way, she’ll also get a lesson in love she will not soon forget.

Only Lycans Need Apply is the 9th book in the Broken Heart series. Michele Bardsley seems to effortlessly combine adventure, romance and humor into a fast-paced, entertaining read that you will not want to put down. Her heroines are no shirking violets, and Moira Jameson is no exception to this rule. She is brave, tough, fiercely independent and a real challenge for Drake. My favorite aspect of the Broken Heart novels is the way Ms. Bardsley continues to bring back the heroes and heroines from past books and make them an integral part of the new stories. Each new book elevates a minor character in previous stories to hero or heroine level, which is an ingenious way to ensure that readers keep coming back for more. This reader is hoping that Dove gets her own story in the near future. As long as Ms. Bardsley keeps writing, I will gladly keep returning to Broken Heart, Oklahoma.

About Lori

For Lori, being an avid reader was inevitable as the daughter of two English Lit majors. It also didn’t hurt that her Grandmother was a children’s librarian so there were always plenty of books in the house. When she is not reading, she can be found performing in and choreographing musicals for local theater groups. She works full-time for the Federal government and juggles that, being a wife and mother, the theater and still finds time to read on a daily basis. She is rarely without a book in her purse and her husband loves to tell people about the time she pulled out a book and read at an NHL game.
