Neptune’s Lair by Dorothy McFalls

Neptune's Lair by Dorothy McFallsThe old gypsy woman looked at Dallas St. John and told her the future – that she would fall in love with the Fish. Dallas, a skeptical lawyer by nature and profession, thought the old woman was off her rocker. Dallas prides herself on being able to take care of herself, as she’s an orphan and has had nobody to depend on all of her life. On the way to a very important job interview, Dallas’s life and reality take a hard shift to the right and turns her upside down.

The Darkness is coming. Something that is the worst imaginable thing. The Darkness feeds on our insecurities, our fears, our doubts. It feeds and blossoms until it overtakes the person.

Brendan is a Protector. While his feet are firmly planted in Chicago, he’s other-worldly. His reality, and those of his friends, is a confusing maze of which there is no map for. You learn as you grow and you try to help those around you. The New Ones. Those who have been discovered and must be guided and nurtured into their powers, into their real reality.

On a vision, Brendan sees Dallas. He sees her running from The Darkness and swoops in to save her. Except nothing is ever that easy or straight forward. They merge like one soul finding its other half, the passion is an explosion that neither of them have felt before. It moves them, it scares them, it feeds The Darkness.

The raw animalistic sensuality that Dallas and Brendon have is unmatched and was done very well by the author. The words just jump off the page and heat you to the core as Dallas and Brendan find their way with each other and figure out just what needs to be done. What do they need to give to be with each other? What do they need to give up in order to spend the rest of their lives together? Only time will tell.

I thoroughly Neptune’s Lair this look into Dallas and Brendon’s life and the touch upon their reality that was threaded through this book. It left me wanting to know more about The New Ones, about The Darkness and about those that are Other.
