Bring Out Your Dead by Katie MacAlister – 3.0: This story was previously published in the 2006 anthology Just One Sip. The main characters, Ysabelle and Sebastian, are also in Ms MacAlister’s Dark Ones series. Though I have not read the series, I still enjoyed this story. The beginning is slow, but things start to move when some quirky paranormals get involved and a string of entertaining events follow. I would have liked this story so much more without the mangled hybrid of French and English used by one character. I found her conversations repetitively annoying.
Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo by Angie Fox – 4.0: Aimee practices voodoo, using it and her shop to help others. With a big nudge from her little dragon, she works some voodoo to help herself find her dream man, but things go awry when she discovers that her Mr. Right is a hunky zombie. I found this to be a fun read and liked these characters and their sweet relationship.
Zombiewood Confidential by Marianne Mancusi – 3.0: Scarlet is a makeup artist for a low-budget zombie film that gets her close to Mason Marks whom she has had a crush on since she was twelve and he was a teenage heart throb. Not surprisingly, the zombies do not need any makeup to be believable in their roles, and Mason is not the womanizer the tabloids make him out to be. I did not feel as connected to these characters as I would have liked and I thought the action could have used some more punch.
Every Part of You by Lisa Cach – 3.5: Angelica gets more than she bargains for when she sees a plastic surgeon to have some scars filled in and some fat sucked from her chin. I truly enjoyed the main characters’ romantic connection, the touches of humor, and the little dash of mystery and suspense.
