Force of Nature by Robin Leigh Miller

Suddenly Trip pulled away and stared down into her face. “You’re playing with fire sweetheart.”
To her surprise she answered with confidence. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Trip pressed himself against her, pushing his agonizing erection against her hot throbbing core. “Understand?”

Markey Neville has lived for thirty-three years with a paranormal ability she despises and the label of freak. Seldom able to remain in one area long enough to make a life for herself because her temper unleashes her “gift”, Markey has grown mistrustful and quick to anger. An attempted bank robbery that Markey thwarts puts her in the hands of Trip Lindaur who is quick to offer his assistance when she collapses in the aftermath. Desire rages quickly between Markey and Trip, but can it be sustained when Trip’s betrayal results in Markey being held captive by Doctor Thornton, a scientist of dubious practices and his sleazy assistant Jesse?

As an author Robin Leigh Miller has two remarkably appealing strengths. She writes deliciously hot love scenes and she creates external conflict and action to heighten the tension. Unfortunately, what happens between the sheet scenes and the rough and tumble action scenes falls short and dilutes the plot with tepid dialogue and endless explanations, a standard romance convention that should have met its end back in the ’80′s.

Miller has great ideas, wonderful ideas. Her characters walk right off the page. It’s when they open their mouth to explain what has already been explained that trouble ensues. I’d really like to see what she can do when she gets a good hold on her strengths and learns how to eliminate the unnecessary dialogue in favor of showing her characters in action. When that happens, watch out. Robin Leigh Miller will be a force to be reckoned with.
