Thomas (T.J.) Cattrell Jones is a shapeshifter who turns into a tomcat during the full moon. He has been trying to figure out how to ask his current lover to move in with him; it is driving him crazy because he keeps chickening out.
Mac Gowen is a wizard and T.J.’s lover. He has undines, or little water beasties, that hate T.J. He defends the undines because he thinks that they are misunderstood. Needles to say, he has it all wrong.
T.J. is on his way home when his friend Arden calls to let him know that the house is empty of all the roommates. This makes T.J. a very happy kitty because now he can spend some alone time with MacGowen and possibly pop the question. MacGowen is inside waiting for him but has his mind on a spell and gets distracted…well, until T.J. turns on the charm. The undines keep butting in and make T.J. want to chomp on them, but of course, MacGowen won’t let him. T.J. is at the verge of giving up until a surprise ally in the shape of a kitty with major attitude comes to help him. MacGowen blames himself for getting T.J stuck in between a man and a kitty. He keeps obsessing about the spell that could turn him back but doesn’t see what is really in front of him: a man/kitty that doesn’t care and who loves him very much. Can these two get past the blame game and get it together or not?
Buddy Holiday by Willa Okati was hilarious with the back and forth banter. The thoughts going through T.J.’s mind were like riding a merry go round on crack. It was hard to keep up with him at times but it was fun trying. While T.J. is the goofy one, MacGowen is the serious one. He would rather take the blame than let T.J. have the burden. They both care for one another but try to keep the trouble on their own shoulders. I caught myself going back and reading passage over because I couldn’t believe that he said that. I loved it and am wondering if any of the other characters will be getting books, because if they do, I want them.
