Book Bites: Boneshaker by Cherie Priest

Boneshaker by Cherie PriestWelcome to our bi-monthly feature with Jay Scott of Great Scott Audio Productions. Jay will be reading from Boneshaker by Cherie Priest book one in her Clockwork Century steampunk series.

About Boneshaker:

“In the early days of the Civil War, rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska’s ice. Thus was Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine born.

But on its first test run the Boneshaker went terribly awry, destroying several blocks of downtown Seattle and unearthing a subterranean vein of blight gas that turned anyone who breathed it into the living dead.

Now it is sixteen years later, and a wall has been built to enclose the devastated and toxic city. Just beyond it lives Blue’s widow, Briar Wilkes. Life is hard with a ruined reputation and a teenaged boy to support, but she and Ezekiel are managing. Until Ezekiel undertakes a secret crusade to rewrite history.

His quest will take him under the wall and into a city teeming with ravenous undead, air pirates, criminal overlords, and heavily armed refugees. And only Briar can bring him out alive.”

About Site Hostess

  1. I’m not sure how I managed to not start this series yet but after listening I think I will just have to make time… who wants to invent a time machine? Oh, or give me time-freezing powers like Zach Morris or the chick from Out of this World. That would be great.

  2. This is a series I’ve yet to start but i do have the first three books

  3. Jay’s introductory comments are almost as fun as the readings–it’s so great to hear him talk about what he loves about each book!

  4. Even though I haven’t read any steampunk, Boneshaker sounds interesting.

  5. I am adding this to my wish list. I missed meeting her a I believe it Conooga last year. Will have to make a point to catch her next time.

  6. It’s on my list

  7. This is not my usual genre of books but your voice is sexy.

  8. This has been on my list for a bit now… and not just because I grab anything that is local for me…
