Black Moon Rising by Eliza Gayle

Sierra had been waiting for this night, her alpha wolf demanding the ceremony that was to come for a long time. The only thing that marred the night was that both of her lovers could not be a true part of the ceremony. Until she took over the reigns from her father and changed the rules, her guardian lover could only stand on the perimeter and listen as his lover is taken officially as another’s mate.

Marok didn’t want to wait; not 24 hours since they had been together, her impatient lover wanted more. He knew what his mate was going through, his acceptance of Nolan was given long ago, but with the Black Moon in the sky, he knew that is was now or never if she was going to take her place as leader of their pack. Their union would allow them to live as they intended with both men in Sierra’s bed and life.

Nolan had to listen and watch as his lover took another in front of the pack in the ritual that would forever give Marok the title of her mate. Watching over her as her guardian since they were but children, he knew he had a place in her heart, but if things did not go as planned, there would be no way any other alpha would allow him to stay as a part of her life and he was thankful that there were no jealousies between him and Marok.

Readying themselves for the ritual under the Black Moon, they are startled to find themselves under attack shortly after Sierra’s father announced her leadership as the new pack alpha. Someone who knew that their beasts would be at their weakest during the second full moon of the month had betrayed them. Cutting the mating ceremony short and racing to their safehouse in the forest, they soon find out that the betrayal stemmed from something from Sierra’s past— someone who had once held her heart. Her father and a few others taken, Sierra is tied to giving the kidnappers what they want: her. Face to face with the man who betrayed her with his refusal to accept her as she was, Sierra cannot help but relive the unfinished way she and Cole parted ways. Now neither human or wolf, he needs Sierra to give him answers or give him a way to finish things off for good. Hard choices must be faced. Sierra’s heart is torn by what has become of the man who still held a place in her heart, but in the end, the choice is taken out of her hands, and she is faced with dealing with the outcome of an act of a desperate man who loves her and hopes that all the men standing by her side in the end will find a way to heal and to come together as one.

Black Moon Rising was one fast paced, exciting read. I could not stop turning the pages. Not to give any spoilers away but, wow, I never saw that ending coming a mile away. All I have to say is it is a happily ever after for most. I wanted the happily ever after for all. Sometimes, what you want is not what is needed to make the story great; this is one of those cases. I still loved the book despite the thought that it would have been awesome if all of the above could have been the answer for Sierra. To quote a song you might have heard of: “You can’t always get what you want. And if you try some times. You get what you need.” Sierra got what she needed. Two men who will stand by her side and love and support her. I got what I needed: a fantastic, spicy read for a cold winter afternoon. And you will get what you need: a great recommendation to take advantage of to put a little heat into your own day.
