Eons ago, the Greek gods were known for their carnality and depravity when it came to sexual pleasures. Despite what us mere Earthlings might think, they haven’t left, and when Ronnie Weaver is taken after a car accident to live by their rules and under the protection of Prometheus, nothing will ever be the same in her life, especially when she submits to his every licentious order.
Ronnie had no memories of her life on what the others on Destauria, the planet she now was a captive of, called the Otherworld. Glimpses of her life are the only link to what she might have been before Theo brought her to take her rightful place as a Child of Destiny and the keeper of the Goddess of Hopes soul. Learning how to submit to his orders was difficult, but watching him pass her off on the Sex rota with the other guardians while he used almost every other female but her caused pains of jealousy which led to acts of rebellion, earning her more punishments and increasing her desire for the man who was holding her at arms’ length.
Prometheus was THE Destaurian Guardian. The Guardian’s first priority was the safe keeping of the Goddess of Hope’s soul; the second was to find the witch Pandora and retrieve the box that had stolen away his love’s soul from him after her lover, Zeus, had trapped it within. He was first to begin the training of those who would guard the decedents of the Goddess of Hope, his one true love, and the one who had been given the task to watch Ronnie since her birth over 22 years ago. The gods decreed she was his to be bonded with and create the next one that would hold his true loves soul. Temptation should have been her name. No other since the first host had stirred his blood and, despite foisting her away from him and into the Sex rota like the other Children of Destiny before her, now he must teach her to fully submit to him and take her place along side of him for eternity.
The Destaurian Guardians use their expertise in not only their individual battle knowledge but their sexual desires to train Ronnie to both submit to her master and to be ready for the next threat against them. With her memories only glimpsing into focus here and there, she is stunned when someone from her past makes his way to Destauria and is forced to choose between the life she doesn’t remember and the one that had been beaten into her with every sexual tryst she had indulged in. As she deals with her new life and the one that she had left behind, she decides to get answers on her own, only to find that more than what she expected awaits her on the other side and both her and others’ lives are on the line if she fails.
If you hadn’t gotten the idea from earlier in the review, this book is heavy handed with the BDSM and the spanking. For those looking for a fantasy high on the fetish scale, then this is the book for you. For me, it was somewhere in between. First of all, the plot itself was really cool, different, and actually very entertaining. The one problem I had with the story itself is that at the beginning, I was lost. Too much information needed to be communicated, and yes it was necessary, but to me it seemed jumbled and I had to reread a few paragraphs to understand where everyone stood. The characters were very strong, unique and depicted emotion that carried the story along, but the introduction of several that were not integral to the plot or even had scenes in the story added to the jumbled feeling. As well, the heroine herself seemed to flip between being the good sub and wanting to stand up to her master…which would have been fine, but when she accepted and gave in, it was much too quickly and without what I would deem the best provocation in the end. Then there was the sex: EXTREME! Very EXTREME! There is both the typical BDSM games of master/submissive and then, on the other hand, there is the hardcore gangbang. I am not saying that there is a problem with depicting this, I just thought it a bit extreme, and the ending took away from what I would have liked as a conclusion to their relationship arc. All in all, I liked the story and could see the possibilities of other storylines arcing away from this one, which I would take the time to dive into.
