Reece Clairmont, an eternal playboy, enjoyed his life as a successful club owner, where mortals and eternals mingled freely. He drove expensive sports cars, wore the best clothes, and had women falling all over themselves in order to meet him. Reece was satisfied with his life, but the recent trouble within the Realm had thrown him off his schedule, and seeing how happy his cousins Simon and Tristan were with their mates had him feeling a bit discontented.

Sidney had given up a promising career as a doctor when she was turned in order to save her life. Being a descendent of Tristan’s, she was more than welcome in the faction, though she felt unsettled and useless. Her fighting skills were limited, and her medical skills were only needed in the height of battle. Her growing attraction to Reece was something she desperately tried to hide behind a wall of sarcasm, though everyone but Reece was well aware of it. With the trouble within the Realm somewhat quieted down, Sidney had more time to think about her situation…and Reece.

Sidney was used to being alone in her previous life, and I liked seeing her adjust to living in a house full of people after she became an eternal. She tried to keep her attraction to Reece hidden, but eventually it had to come out. Reece’s playboy exterior was an excellent cover-up for his deeper feelings, which were shown by his restoration of his childhood home and his willingness to take in a ward, a young girl who had been turned and abandoned by her maker. This was an excellent story that perfectly ended the Everlasting trilogy, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Tristan McBreen, referred to as the “Old One” by the others of his faction, was a fearless warrior who had been fighting for centuries, ever since the age of twelve. He took his position seriously, never letting anything distract him from his training, and with the Order in shambles, his small faction was one of the few defenses left against Victor and his powers of darkness.

Katie had suffered a great deal at Lucas’ shands, but when she escaped and swore loyalty to Fallyn and Simon, Tristan became her maker. Since that time, Katie’s bravery and recklessness both worried and attracted Tristan to the point of distraction. Katie was fast becoming a pawn in the game played between Victor and their faction, and she was more than willing to sacrifice herself for the good of the others.

I appreciated the loyalty the faction of eternals—not vampires—showed to Simon and Tristan, relying heavily on Tristan’s considerable skill in battle. Katie’s impulsiveness and reckless behavior was refreshing, even outdoing Fallyn’s (from the first book), and was almost certain to be her downfall. Tristan was a noble man from another time but even he could not resist Katie’s charms, and their rocky relationship is fun to follow. The battles are more subdued in this story, but the war between good versus evil continues in this second book. I am definitely looking forward to reading the third book to see which side claims victory.

Reporter Fallyn Mitchell was wary of the chance to write a story about the reclusive Simon Clairmont, but decided that the payoff was worth the weekend she would be required to spend at Willow Bend, the Clairmont estate. Surprised at having a limo sent to pick her up, Fallyn was even more surprised to find that Willow Bend used only candles and that an entire wardrobe of evening gowns were provided for her to dress for dinner. While researching the Clairmont family using Simon’s reference materials, Fallyn was suddenly terrified to discover her host was born in 1790 and was a vampire. Running from the manor house, Fallyn stopped the first car she saw, which just happened to be driven by Simon’s evil brother, Lucas.

Simon Clairmont spent his nights defending the weak that were being tormented and abused by the stronger, and this was where he happened to see Fallyn and found himself instantly attracted to her. Inviting her to his home was the first step in his plan to make Fallyn his. Knowing that she might be horrified at what he was, he never thought that she would run from Willow Bend and find herself preyed upon by Lucas. Now Simon’s only thought was how to release Fallyn from Lucas’s hold.

What a great story! Fallyn’s independence and strength bordered on stubbornness and recklessness, but her bravery was admirable. Simon’s devotion to her was strong, and his determination to protect her, even from herself, was noble. I appreciated the loyalty Simon’s faithful had for him and found the battles both exciting and interesting. This was a lot of fun to read, and I can’t wait to get started on the next book in the trilogy.
