Possession by Crymsyn Hart

Dreams led Bruno, a lone wolf shifter, back to the pack that cast him into the wind. For years he had been on his own, spreading the message of a loving God, a God that he clung to when his torment of abandonment ravaged his soul. Night after night he was plagued by visions of Serena, his only love, and all consuming evil tempting her to cross over to be one with it.

Night after night since the attack and mutilation of her pack, Serena the gifted pack healer, telepathically called to her outcast soul mate Bruno. She had taken refuge into the forest hiding from the evil that had destroyed her pack. Serena’s sanity is being tested by the taunting of whispers from the evil beyond the sacred barrier weakened her psyche. She only prayed Bruno would come and overcome the ominous spirit.

Possession‘s mixture of religion and the paranormal was very refreshing. The typical banishing of the other males by the alpha so he wouldn’t be challenged is mundane, but I enjoyed the twist that Bruno, the male lead character, turned to God and began to spread his message.

Serena is a bit brow beaten by Terrance and the rest of the pack, and I do not like how she remained there even though she was abused and her love was sent away. But if it was a fairy tale from the start, it wouldn’t have been a very good read, now would it?

This is a very well written tale with entertaining second characters. Hart did leave me anticipating the next installment of the Devil’s Tavern series. I am anxious to see where the possessed Neb has slithered off to.

Quaking Hearts by Crymsyn Hart

The fourth book in the Storm Riders series by Crymsyn Hart deals with two hot heroes, Wes and Samuel. They’ve been partners in all things for the last two hundred years. They’re cowboys, they have paranormal powers and are hot…what more can you ask for in a pair of heroes? Adina is trying to become a Rider and outrun trouble (which she doesn’t do well), when she meets the two. Sparks ignite between all three, and when someone tries to kill her, her cowboys will do anything to protect their new bond.

I feel like each book in the Storm Riders series gets stronger. Crymsyn Hart evolves her writing and characters and the books are the better for it. What I liked about Quaking Hearts is the dynamics between all three characters. There seems to be equality among the three even though Wes and Samuel have been together for so long. You do have to read the other books to really understand elementals and what Riders are and why they do what they do, so I’d recommend checking out the first books: Storm Riders, Smoke Jumpers, and Impassioned Waters . This series is perfect for paranormal fans.

Impassioned Waters by Crymsyn Hart

****½

Impassioned Waters is the third in the Storm Riders series but can be read as a standalone. Hart gives readers a very steamy ménage story about partners, newfound loves and fallen angels.

Seth and Cecelia love each other but can’t seem to stop fighting for a second to let each other know. Jacob is a fallen angel, whose real identity I’ll keep secret, and allows Seth and Cecelia to become who they were meant to be. Yes, folks, this is good old fashioned m/f/m where the female is blessed to be able to fall in love with two men who don’t mind sharing…at least once they stop sniffing around each other like two alpha dogs.

What I liked was how Jacob’s personality balanced Seth’s and Cecelia’s and how he’s an angel who’s not so… angelic. What might bother some readers was the obvious friction between Seth and Cecelia. Readers want them together, but then when Jacob comes along, a threesome isn’t the first thing that pops into the mind. Though this is written as the third in the series, I’d suggest reading the first two because to be able to fully understand the different “riders” and what their jobs are without reading between the lines.

If you like hot reads, clashing personalities and angelic wars, you’ll love Impassioned Waters. It’s the perfect fantasy mixed with just the right amount of adventure and action. Plus, the bedroom scenes scorched the pages and had me wanting to go find my own fallen angel.

Immortal Desires by Crymsyn Hart

Amara has always had memories that belonged to another life. As teen Vampire souls trapped in human bodies, her friends explored their shared past and their need for blood. Now her friends are dying; someone knows about their Vampire past and wants them dead.

Amara returns to where she grew up, determined to seek out the truth. There, she meets an old friend Crymsyn, but things aren’t what they seem. And the hunter is close. Can Amara trust her old love Andrew? Does she really want to give up the sun and become Vampire again?

The premise of Immortal Desires was interesting: the reincarnation of Vampire souls. But the start was slow and filled with backstory and journal entries that slowed the pace further. I also found Amara hard to bond with, one moment reflective the next aggressive. So while I wanted to be drawn into the story I wasn’t, which is disappointing as the twist at the end was very clever.

An Eternity of Shadows by Crymsyn Hart

Caleb is the first one cursed as a Raven Warrior. When he asked the Goddess Morrigain to resurrect his beloved and bring back her soul, he never thought his selfish request would bring significant consequences to the world. By the time he realizes it, humanity is in great danger and humans are treated as a threat. After five thousand years, Caleb is bitter and frustrated. He was punished due to his ignorance towards the other Raven warriors, in which his status as their leader was stripped and he was sent to protect a charge that resented him in every way.

Keeleigh is gifted. Born with both elf and human heritage, she possesses a wonderful voice so magical that it is able to enchant others who listen. Growing up with an elven grandfather who taught her much about her heritage, she is aware of mythical beings and of Caleb’s presence when he came to her on the first day. The more magic she uses, the closer she becomes to be an elf as her grandfather. However, her magic is so strong that it lures unwanted creatures to her.

Caleb struggles with his past, his feelings and his attraction towards Keeleigh, while Keeleigh still has a lot to learn to embrace about her heritage in order to escape doom. With danger so near, they have to put aside their pride and differences in order to restore balance and save humanity.

This is the best story so far in the Raven series by Crymsyn Hart. I have waited for Caleb to have his story told, and my anticipation paid off with this amazing book. With my favorite mythical beings, the elves, and the legendary Atlantis in play, I must say that this book definitely is on my favorite list!

Hiram’s Secret by Anastasia Rabiyah

Hiram wants to leave Pig’s End and pass through the portal to another realm. He’s bored of his current life and he is curious of what the other side can offer. When he is sent to jail in the other realm, he never thought he would meet Secret, a beautiful and mysterious woman. Is the woman really what she seems to be?

To think that a gremlin is merely an ugly and vile creature is totally overrated. Anastasia Rabiyah brings us a heart-warming love story in “Hiram’s Secret”. With a blend of erotic dreams, passionate feelings, and life-death scenario, readers will get to see gremlins get their own happy ending, and a surprising one, too!

Rating: 5/5

The Witch, The Hunter & The Bride by Bret Jordan

Monteh is enthralled by the witch’s song which makes him weak and powerless. He is drawn by the witch’s spell and unwillingly becomes the her sex slave. But how can he win against a witch when he is powerless every time she sings?

Bret Jordan shows us why a gremlin is a creature with whom one should never mess around with. They are small, cunning creatures who can creep into your house even in the middle of the day, and you will never know what will happened to you until it is too late. “The Witch, the Hunter & the Bride” is a story which will make you feel like it’s Halloween every time you read it.

Fire for Ice by Cerise Amour

In Lanae, everybody has a gremlin including the princess, Callista. While playing with her gremlin one day, she suddenly finds herself in a room with a murderer who not only sees her but is waiting for her. With a killer on the loose, and a royal mark on the body of the last victim, Tamir, the royal guard, confronts the princess to get some answers. However, the intense attraction between the masters and their imps complicates the situation. Will their emotions get in the way and give the murderer a chance to get what he wants?

Gremlins may become one’s best friend, if given the chance. Cerise Amour explores a mythical world where gremlins and humans co-exist with such an unimaginable bond. “Fire and Ice” makes me want to have a gremlin myself. If I am unsure of my own feelings, just take a look at my gremlin and voila! I can figure it out. It is such a splendid idea!

You are My Sunshine by Crymsyn Hart

When Larissa moves into an apartment, she knows it is haunted. But what’s a girl to do when that’s the only one she can afford? With the cheap rent and one condition – never to disturb the owner who lives in the room downstairs – living with a ghost is no problem. But when there is a loud noise from her owner’s room every sunset, she gets curious. It seems Gregory has a secret, carrying a dangerous and life-threatening curse. Will her love prevail when the curse threatens to kill her?

For so long, Gregory suffers alone in the dark. But in the dark, the sun will shine and bring happiness with it. When Larissa struggles with her feelings, I wanted to be there to share her pain when she cried and laugh with her when she is happy. Her emotions touch my heart and brought tears to my eyes. The emotion, the suspense and the myth in Crymsyn Hart’s novella will surely tug your heart and your soul.

Night and Day by Dahlia Rose

Larkin Day witnesses her partner die in her arms with his insides and his blood splattered everywhere on a roof top. The thing that attacked her partner then jumps to attack her. Lucky for her, someone saves her in the nick of time. Facing a monster, or precisely a gremlin, for the first time is utterly unimaginable and shocking for Larkin. Unlucky for her, the gremlin already marked her for its next victim and will not allow her to escape death. Keaton Knight feels protective of Larkin, so he appoints himself as her protector. Will his skills be sufficient enough to save her from the gremlins, or will their feelings get in the way?

“Night and Day” is a fast-paced story that kept me gripping my seat. From the impressive fighting skills to the bone-chilling suspense, it made me anxious and kept me guessing. The queen’s appearance gives additional merits to the story. Dahlia Rose brings life to the characters and believable chemistry. This story is another great addition to the anthology.

Rating: 5/5

Bonamy & Clyde by Dawne Dominique

Bonamy and Clyde are neighbors. Bonamy, ever the perfectionist, is badly affected when her life gets out of control. Clyde is new in town, but he has already been given the cold shoulder a few times by his neighbor, and that annoys him. When bizarre things occur and electrical appliances go crazy, both of their lives take an interesting turn. Is it just coincidence, or is it something more?

Although the story started out slow in the beginning, Dawne Dominique made up for it by teasing readers with her truth and dare game. The scene itself boosted my enjoyment in reading “Bonamy & Clyde”. However, the characters seemed cold, and I felt like there were not enough emotions and chemistry in the story. I can only say that this is not one of Dawne Dominique’s best work.

The Silver Scream by S. D. Grady

Gilda planned something special for her boyfriend on his birthday. However, their night of passion on the stage in the old theater does not go unnoticed. A pair of eyes watches them, anger rippling through his veins. Gilda and Seth couldn’t keep their hands off each other. But when a freak accident occurs, Gilda changes. Is their love strong enough to fight against all odds?

S.D. Grady caught my attention right from the beginning with the right amount of sexual teasing and passion. The mysterious, evil, dark creature gave off bone-chilling vibes which kept me on the edge. “The Silver Scream” reminded me of why love exists in the first place and the lengths people will go for it.

Jayd always looks forward to seeing Seth every month but she cannot help but wonder why he only comes to her shop during full moon. One day an unexpected visitor to her shop brings chaos and disaster. She started hearing whispers when darkness comes. She finds gifts for her in her house even though she locked every door and window. But when the red letters arrive and an unexpected visitor visits her in the middle of the night, she didn’t know that her life was about to change forever.

Although Jayd is not his charge, Seth can’t help but feel that he needs to watch over her and protect her. His constant watch of her turns from an obligation into an affection and he found himself at her doorstep. After learning that she is being stalked and marked, he swore to do anything in his power to protect her and save her.

The third book of the Raven Saga brings deeper emotions and passions. This is one of those stories that was able to caress my heart and radiate warmth within me. Crymsyn Hart never cease to amaze me with her ideas and smooth words. Whispers in the Dark is definitely a must read book and I would not be surprised if it ends up on your favorite book shelf too.

Through the Mirror by Crymsyn Hart

Posted under Reviews by Virginia on Thursday 13 November 2008 at 7:38 am

Rhianna vaguely remembers living in the house when she was young. However, she doesn’t remember anything that transpired there to cause her mother to never return and numerous renters to not stay very long there either. After she wakes up hearing calliope music and finds a man in her mirror asking for help, she finds herself drawn into a dark world trying to help him. She discovers the secret behind the house.

Alexander and his twin Donavan made a deal with a demon for immortality. Now Alexander is looking for a way to free himself and his twin brother from the demon’s clutches. He feels drawn to Rhianna and tries to help her to remember her past and the magic buried inside of her. He hopes that she will be able to free them from their eternal damnation. But will Alexander have to choose between Rhianna and his brother who keeps trying to prevent his leaving?

I give this book 4 tombstones. Ms. Hart’s description of the characters is well written and creates a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. She does an admirable job of drawing the reader into the story and writing a gripping tale. While there is some adult content in this book, it is well written and adds to the development of the characters relationship.

I have to admit, after reading the first few pages, I was a little hesitant to continue the book. I normally stay away from novels that have a horror type element to them because I have an active imagination at night, but I felt myself drawn into the tale that Ms. Hart weaves and found myself turning each page just to find out what happened next. The dark circus that she creates in her novel is a creepy place that I know I would never want to visit. If you’re looking for something a little bit different from the vampire and werewolf novels out there, pick up Through the Mirror by Crymsyn Hart. You will not be disappointed.

Book Excerpt:“Rhianna has finally moved back into her childhood home despite her mother’s warnings never to return. On her first night back, she wakes to a voice begging for help. Instead of her reflection in the mirror, she finds a man staring back at her. Rhianna’s heart turns at the sound of his pleas, even though fear grips her soul. Who is this ghost in her mirror? As much as she desires to help him, he warns her that there’s something else lurking in the mirror.

Alexander has been trapped in a different realm helping his brother lure souls to their dark circus. After years of serving a demon, he wants redemption. It’s only when he sees Rhianna that he knows he can be saved. But his evil twin, Donavan, mustn’t find out about her, or Donavan will want her for himself.

Can Rhianna save him? Or will Donavan claim her soul?”

One of the thirteen Raven warriors, Darius hates gypsies and witches even more. A gypsy/witch cursed him to be what he is when she caught him sleeping with her sister. Cursed to roam as a Raven, he is responsible for the safety of his charge, Jonathan, a boy with the power of the mind, a telepath. He knows the consequences if he should fail. He will be condemned forever to be a Raven, with no humanity left, wandering the skies, cursed for eternity. When he was summoned to kneel before Betha, his banshee queen, he never thought he would have to face his past, etched together with pain and heartache.

Always feeling that she was being stalked, and having frequent illusions of a wolf leaping at her, Alena is worried her past will catch up to her. She ran away when she came of age and never looked back. Years after that fated day, out of the blue, her cousin Jamie shows up at her work place and keeps insisting that she return to the pack, but she declines. Within the pack, she was an outcast. Being half-wolf, she was unable to change when she reached puberty like the other wolves, and she felt like she didn’t belong in the pack.

Something evil is lurking deep in the forest. Lusting for blood, the young pups of the pack are being targeted, and a few have been found brutally murdered. Vincent, the pack leader is worried for safety of his pack. His vedma prayed for the dark goddess’s help, and Darius is sent to help them hunt for the evil. After receiving a frantic phone call from Jamie, Alena rushes back to her pack. There, she meets Darius again. Their paths intertwine again in a mysterious way. They met once before when Alena was being chased by an elder wolf but Darius was in so much pain that he never paid much attention to her, much less tried to save her. Yet when he meets her again at the pack meeting place, he is drawn to her forthrightness, courage, and her gracefulness.

Absolutely fabulous! Crymsyn Hart has done it again with her second book in the Raven Saga. This book has its own twists and surprises that will surely make your day. It will make you wait anxiously for her next book in the series; Whispers in the Dark. She is definitely on a winning streak with this series.

A Conspiracy of Ravens by Crymsyn Hart

Tremain is falsely accused of murdering his loved one and cursed to be a Raven, bound to serve the priestess for eternity. But on full moon days and high holidays, he is able to walk on the earth as a human. He is assigned to protect the queen’s daughter, Maili because humans have begun to notice her uniqueness, and the queen fears for her daughter’s safety. If Tremain fails to protect her, he will be bound to eternal hell.

Tremain longs to be human again, to shed his feathers and became mortal. But there is always a catch. In order for him to become human again, he needs to fall in love. His potential mate must love him, accept him the way he is, as a raven, without telling them who he is. When that time comes, his feathers will fall and he will regain his mortality and be with the one he loves. But how is he be able to achieve this when his heart has become bitter and he feels like he has no more love in his heart? His heart aches every time he thinks about his past love, Beatrice and how the world was against their union. His heart died the day he found her dead…

A witch without any power, Linnea cannot help but feeling frustrated of her lack of power. She was supposed to possess great magic as her family has in past generations. Where one day her power will awake, but there has been no sign of that happening. Everything in the world seems to be against her. Time is always against her and she always finds herself late reaching the theater play where she plays flute. Linnea is always wishing she had powers, magic and beauty. she cannot help feeling envy towards her beautiful friend who possesses the voice of heaven that captivates anybody who listens to it.

Then, Maili went missing. Linnea is worried for her best friend, her sister in heart. Maili looked distraught and worried a day before she disappeared. Linnea swears to turn the world upside down to find her. But when she finds a handsome warrior in Maili’s house with a sword in his hand and an ugly, sinister head in his other, she knew there was something out-of-this-world involved and now she is a part of it as well.

A fantastic read with grueling fights, a fearsome banshee queen, a dark goddess, a flock of raven warriors, three witches (does this sound very familiar?) and soul reincarnation. A Conspiracy of Ravens brings you into a world of fantasy and magic. This is a cleverly written story with an ending that will surprise you. Well, I know was surprised. I highly recommended this book to those who cannot live without magic and witches in their books.

Midnight Mocha by Crymsyn Hart

Posted under Reviews by Lyda on Thursday 31 July 2008 at 12:05 am
****

Engaged to a man she does not love and in a job working for a jerk she can barely stand, Sophia’s one escape is at the Midnight Mocha café. Seeing the handsome owner who makes her favorite caffeinated drink just happens to be an added perk. Just because he’s cute, friendly, and her personal hero (having saved her life once from a mugger and providing her with her daily dose of caffeine) does not mean she is interested in him in more than a friend, or vice versa. Right?

With a past he does not want to repeat and a secret he does not want to reveal, Alex is cautious in how he deals with Sophia. She’s taken and he does not want Sophia to know he has been attracted to her all this time and or worse, tempted to drink all her blood. She would think he was a monster. He knows it is best to avoid her at all costs but somehow he finds he has extreme difficulty just staying away. What is it about her that makes her so alluring and her blood smell so enticing?

This is a unique story of love, temptation, strength and self-realization. Alex and Sophia’s love is undeniable and the sexual tension is just as delicious. While Alex fights to keep Sophia away from him, Sophia fights to keep him near. In the end, both end up finding themselves and each other.

This story gets 4 tombstones. It was fast-paced from the first couple of pages. Even the way it was written was different in that the story was written from the perspective of the two main characters, with their points of view interchanging and at times overlapping. The only disappointing factor was the ending. The story kept building up and building up leaving the reader to expect the unexpected, only to have an anti-climatic ending. It made me ask, where, how, when and why. And then all of a sudden, viola! It simply ended. Still, it was a brilliant read, with extraordinary characters and surprising twists and turns that will keep anyone interested in reading more.
