All This and Family, Too by Sarah E. Glenn

Transitioning to life as a vampire has been a struggle for Cynthia; she has no one to explain the rules. Is she allergic to garlic? Will holy water burn? The one thing she does know is that vampires can be killed. Her partner was murdered, and now the vampire hunters are on her trail. Cynthia has decided to leave North Carolina behind and is heading for California. On the way, she rescues Josie, a teen in trouble, a wisecracking, smart and funny runaway who certainly makes life entertaining. Together with her family, Cynthia will face the vampire hunters and adjust to her new life as one of the undead and, in the process, discover love.

All This and Family, Too is a fun and engaging look into the world of a newly created vampire trying to maintain as much of a normal life as possible. Sarah E. Glenn has created a wonderful group of characters. She has paid great attention to crafting believable and dimensional details that bring her creations to life. As much care is taken with the secondary characters of Reverend Merriment and his motley crew, Heather, the neighborhood busybody, and Dylan, a fellow vampire, as is taken with the main characters, all of which provides a rich and engaging read.

The plot slows somewhat in the middle of the book when more emphasis is put on everyday life but still is interesting enough to maintain the reader’s interest. However, if you are expecting a book that is all vampire all the time, this is not that book. Instead, it is a character driven story with elements of action, a touch of romance, and an inside look at the love and support of family with all the necessary dysfunction thrown in.
