Bitten by Books Screen Bites - Eclipse, Eureka, Haven and The Gates

Posted under Chat, Discussions, Shapeshifters, T.V./Movies, Time Travel by Carol on Monday 26 July 2010 at 12:18 pm

Greetings, readers and watchers. This week we will discuss the movie Eclipse, as well as check in on some of our summer shows.

Your hostesses: Brit and Carol

Eclipse
I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago with a friend, and we both enjoyed it. Personally, I have been pleased with the screen versions being pretty faithful to the books, though I don’t always find that this aspect is necessary to my enjoyment. Film is an art form in its own right, and non-faithful or “inspired by” adaptations reflect the filmmaker’s vision – something they are entitled to.

Daring Time by Beth Kery

Daring Time by Beth Kery is one of those rare books that let you think you have everything figured out before hitting you over the head with a twist, earning it 4 tombstones.

Everything about this story intertwines the past with the present, from the first time Ryan Daire steps into the house his professor gifted him to the discovery of the dead body of a young girl in 1906. Chicago itself is used as a character, showcasing how society has changed from one century to the next and how it affects the way Ryan and Hope look at life.

Shock. Disbelief. Horror. Typically, one does not conjure up these adjectives in response to a Betsy Taylor novel. However, those terms aptly describe this reviewer’s reaction to Undead and Unfinished, the stellar ninth installment in the Undead series. Warning: no spoilers will be given for this book, but references to previous entries in the series will appear in this review.

Rather than brood on her boyfriend’s odd behavior, Juliana Douglas decided to open her antique store a little early. St. Augustine was a tourist town, and you never knew when someone would come by, interested in the merchandise. Since she lived above the store, it was a simple matter to walk downstairs, open the front door, and arrange several eye-catching pieces on the front stoop. After turning on the radio and picking up her coffee mug, she heard the front door of the shop open, and turned to greet the customer. (more…)

Lucy Rossano is looking for a little magic in her life. She thought she found it the day the strange woman handed her a book written by Leonardo da Vinci.
